Mark's take seems to be that Eren can see every possible outcome. The impression I got was that he could see only one outcome, and bound himself to it over trying to change it.

The Infamous Twist I was alluding too is The villain of the First game is in fact Cole from the Future having gone back in time to give Cole and enemy that will make him stronger for the fight with a later villain Future Cole couldn't defeat cause His life wasn't filled with conflict. IE Future makes sure all the bad things happen to his past self cause only that will give him the mindset to see the plan through to the end

I just found out that AoT has ended, and whoa.

As someone who noped out of the series fairly quickly due to finding its themes disagreeable, but kept updated on how the plot was going because people were telling me that it's going to deliver it's anti-war anvil any day now, I guess the ending is pretty cathartic, because "maybe genocide is the right thing to do, I dunno" is about how I expected it to go down. Incel Eren is just a cherry on top.

I think I agree with what others said here, the story would have turned out better if it could commit to Eren as the villain. There is some good stuff in this ending too.

Pretty sure the part where they showed off the horrors of war and how it can turn well meaning kids into mass murdering weapons to be discarded the moment they aren’t useful counts as the anti war anvil.

Yeah, I'm kinda confused at people who thought the ending was supposed to drop the anti war anvil. Like. The entire last third of the series starting with the perspective shift was meant to beat you over the head with it.

It's a conflict of what the series is outwardly saying and what the actual messages being presented are. You can argue that those things are in alignment, but it's also not that hard to say they weren't.

@Frozen Eren didn't choose the best outcome. Hell, Eren himself admits that he doesn't even know what happens after his death. Things could end up worse than they were.

And in fact, Eren didn't even have a true choice. It was basically fate for him (that he also wanted).

There was only one road laid out for him and he moved forward on that road.

What Doctor Strange did was different.

Something I do find interesting is both the simultaneous rejection yet acceptance of utilitarianism and A Million Is a Statistic.

Eren understands that "rationally" sacrificing the entire world for the sake of the island is insane, but can't bring himself to just let the island go. That resonates with the audience as it should - human lives shouldn't be a matter of addition or subtraction. But then it turns all the way around to crazy when so many people become convinced it is just to sacrificing the greater number of lives for the sake of the few.

I've mentioned before I'm pretty sure a lot of people are just into a story that says "mass murder and genocide aren't always bad" for whatever reason, but that might not be what's only going on here. Even if it is still pretty fucked up.

I mean thats how Law works in Shin Megami Tensei. Kill 99.9% of humanity and let the chosen inherit the world for maximized happiness painted on ones soul. Its even the "logical" route and associated with robots.

Granted In sure theres a few more 9s added to that percentage.

I'm still confused how 80% of humanity died. The titans were supposed to take four days to wipe out all of Marley, and were stopped on the third day. Was the entire world one island and one continent? Does Marley have this really weird country shape that means it is both the first and last one they get to?

They went in all directions.

That would mean a lot if three of those directions weren't surrounded by water for as far as the map stretched. If we do make the assumption that the rest of the map turns out to just hte Earth flipped then it doesn't make sense; the edge of Marley that it would take the titans four days to get too would still leave North and South America outside of their range.

Well the three closest continents at the time are the Africa, Asia, and Europe equivalents. Most of humanity would have lived there.

Leaving the Americas and Australia to likely cover a decent chunk of what’s left. Since I doubt they colonized those lands in the setting.

Of course the thing to take in mind is that by taking the radius of the outermost wall Paridiso is at least four times the size of Madagascar, meaning the main Marley country we see should be four times the size of Africa using the map we have of the size comparison. The scale of the word is thrown into question by this information.

Hange clocks them going at about 600 KM in half a day so 1200 km a day - 746 miles a day if we start in the center of madagascar

Thats checks out since Hange is able to predict where Eren will be and says in four days most of the mainland continent will be wrecked

The issue is Eren's march in no way could have reached upside down Japan unless his titnas grew to the size of Godzilla earth and booked it.

Really for Eren's wipe out most of mankind trick to work he'd have to be going for antarctica and cause a ecological nightmare at the pole.

Eren is in reality talking about having wiped out 80% of the Marleans -and we just have wonky translation issues-... which would make fucking sense since to Eren the Enemy is his world

The Marleans were already being pushed back by their rivals so wrecking them so the rest of the world which is open to paradise cooperation effectively gets rid of the only real hurdle Paradise has...

Eren's Zero approval Gambit shouldn't backfire if you don't wipe out all your allies

Thats the thing unless Eren's titan company is booking it they'd have to be going 3 times faster IE moving at a psychotic pace

But Eren and his boys are shown moving in a slow methodical pace cause he is literally trying to steamroll the horizon

but if we assume that the Battle of fort Salta is in reality a battle at the Atlas mountains

I mean looking at the Data... unless the Fight with Eren lasted two days straight and his boys just suddenly just started running a marathon with complete abandon...

Eren at most wiped out Upside down Africa- IE Marley

The Southern part of upside down Europe mostly Not Italy and Not Greece

The Upside down Middle East

Upside Down India

Man I hope nobody misses all the not classical stuff from those two countries.

I mean there is the assumption that Eren's Wave is moving at the same pace

So who knows Eren maybe have had to tell his boys to stop Conquering the Penguins and get to South America.

And also once again, the size of the walls confirms that geographical regions in Ao T Earth are 1:1 in size with their real world counterparts, and the one or two in-universe maps we see can thus not be assumed to be accurate in scale.

Also as mentioned above, we simply don’t have any information either way about civilizations in the Upside-down Americas, and based on the lack of Paradis getting firebombed to hell and back during the time skip, whatever is there, if untouched by the Rumbling, either doesn’t have that kind of power or simply isn’t interested.
