Consular -> Watchman/Assassin can be a fun combo. More powers early on, while still ultimately reaping a lot of skill points and getting Sneak Attack to synergise with your disabling powers. It helps that the skill points Intelligence will get you is a bit more generous than the first game.

Don't know if there's anything special you want to do or would appeal, though. Blaster Jedi, punch people, stealth, whatever.

I hate how this game lacks a proper auto save function!

I cleared the cave and then died, resulting in me having the clear the caves all over again.I might actually grab Mical this time before clear the caves again

Slight bump because I cleared the last two planets and have gathered all the jedi masters

One of these days I'm going to commit to a proper darkside playthrough where I recruit Hanharr,I swear the games it really difficult to recruit him

Despite being a cringe edgelord, I never had the guts to do a KOTOR darkside run for the first two games.

But I was a happy dark sider in SWTOR. At least for my Sith characters.

[up]Probably because the MMO makes being a dark side character at least a semi-sensible option, and nor is your character a needlessly cruel, self-destructive jerk.

Plus something feels wrong being a dark side Jedi. Even to a guy like me.

It's much more fun being a Dark Lord of the Sith.

Why does "Cringe Edgelord" sound like the name of a Star Wars character?

Anyways, I think it's about time I give this game a whirl. Anything to be aware of before I start?

Darth Cringe Edgelord does sound plausible. [lol]

But seriously, whatever you do, don't invest in Force Lightning unless you want a dark side run. Your alignment will affect how well you can use your force powers.

Try Smuggler for your first run then Jedi Sentinel gives you more dialogue options.

EDIT: Yeah you might want to invest a lot in the persuade option, seriously. In my first run I failed certain persuade checks on Korriban.

Speaking off, do that planet last.

Persuade is one skill you really need to buff up on your player character, since it's the only skill your companions can't increase or even use, and you get tons of value out of the dialogue options it opens up. Every other skill can mostly just be handled by your companions in the first game. The only other exceptions are Treat Injury for extra healing, and Repair because there's a companion you can get some permanent stat buffs with if you pass several Repair checks (though you can make use of equipment and buff spells to help lower the requirements for that).

I'm not sure what kind of other advice you'd be looking for. The game is pretty easy and you should get through it fine even if you don't have the best character build. I guess it's worth talking about classes. You'll have to choose between 3 non-Jedi classes at the start for your main character. Later after you leave the first planet your character will class change into one of 3 Jedi classes. You can choose when you want to apply level ups, so it's possible to "save" levels early on to use later when you're a Jedi. It's up to you if you want to do that. It'll make the game a bit harder early on, but you'll get more levels as your Jedi class and get more Jedi powers. Notably, all Jedi classes get some free Feats at certain levels up to level 12, so you probably don't want to take any more levels in your non-Jedi class past level 8 (the max level in the game is 20).

    A rundown on classes.

The three non-Jedi classes are Soldier, Scout, and Scoundrel.

  • Soldier = High HP, good at combat, gets a lot of Feats (passive benefits), bad at skills (utility). Will generally give you the easiest time with the early parts of the game and give you some extra HP and attack power as a Jedi, but doesn't have any utility benefit or unique Feats.
  • Scout = Average HP, lesser combat skills, gets less Feats, but has the best saving throws (chances to avoid debuffs and certain types of damage). Gets a lot of skills and skill points, including Repair. Gets a few free Feats at certain levels that give you more saves against grenades and lets you equip Implants.
  • Scoundrel = Low HP, lesser combat skills, gets few Feats, but has high Defense (evasion). Gets a lot of skills and skill points, including Persuade, though it's the only class that doesn't get Treat Injury. Gets free Feats as it levels that increases your Defense even higher and increases your damage against enemies that are stunned or currently focused on another party member (Sneak Attack). Generally has the hardest time early in the game because it's weak, but Persuade as a class skill means you can easily make every early Persuade check while a Soldier and Scout might miss a couple, and the Defense and Sneak Attack bonuses are useful carry-overs to when you're a Jedi.

The three Jedi classes you later choose from are Guardian, Sentinel, and Consular. Notably all Jedi classes have high saving throws, high Defense like the Scoundrel, and get Persuade and Treat Injury as class skills.

  • Jedi Guardian = The "warrior" Jedi. High HP and the best at Lightsaber combat, also gets a few more Feats than the other Jedi classes. But gets the least amount of Force Points (mana for Force powers) of all the Jedi classes. Similar to the Soldier it gets almost no skills or skill points so its bad at utility. Good for just hacking through everything with your Lightsaber.
  • Jedi Sentinel = The "rogue" Jedi. Average HP and FP. Gets the most skill points, but it doesn't really get any class skills so you won't have much to spend points on unless you changed from Scout or Scoundrel. Gets some bonus Feats at certain levels that basically makes it immune to most status effects. Generally considered kind of underpowered in the first game compared to the other two Jedi classes, but still, it's an easy game.
  • Jedi Consular = The "mage" Jedi. Low HP, but high FP and gets a few more Force Powers than the other two. Also gets some extra Feats that increases the potency of your Force powers. Gets few skill points, but gets a lot of class skills to spend on them on, including Repair. Basically you pick this if you want to focus less on Ligthsaber combat and instead be a Jedi wizard wiping entire rooms with Force powers.

I know Koter comes across as easy but thats actually makes it more accessable and fun, some RP Gs get stupidly difficult for no reason

edit,I finished my Consolar playthrough!

-Final level wasa boring slog where I spammed force wave nonstomp

-Kreia was a difficult boss I had to keep speeding away from while knocking her back with force wave

- Nooooo Atton,you died a hero!

While there's still no news about the status of the remake AFAIK, it was announced at Star Wars Celebration today that the Old Republic Era is canon again!

Woohoo!

As in, KOTOR and the TOR MMO and everything? We've known for a while they were using stuff there; the new Essential Atlas has the Lehon system and Andor mentions the Rakata.

Honestly, I prefer to think of KOTOR and associated media as an Alternate Continuity rather than a distant prequel. Think about it, hardly anything ties into mainline Star Wars at a finer level than the setting itself, and yet technology and civilisation on each planet is almost identical despite thousands of years passing. Just makes more sense to think that it's "Star Wars if things had happened differently".

Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.

[up]That was definitely my takeaway dabbling a couple of times in Knights of the Old Republic. It felt way more to me like an AU than a distant prequel because the only thing that had really changed was the aesthetic of certain tech (like Astromech Droids being boxy).

I feel differently. Because TALES OF THE JEDI had 5000 years in the past feel utterly different like Ancient Egypt.

And that was a mistake.

Because, the culture of Star Wars has been in space for 20,000 years. Such an unbelievably long time that it shouldn't be different.

At the same time though, wasn't Tales of the Jedi taking place before the Republic as we know it, in a time where space was different, the Republic wasn't as strong, the Sith were in ascendancy and all of that? I'd say that makes it good enough for the culture to change.

Crossposted from main Star Wars thread:

Aspyr has announced via Twitter that KOTOR II's restored content DLC for the Nintendo Switch port has been cancelled. As compensation, they are offering purchasers of the Switch port (as long as proof of purchase is provided) a complimentary game key for one of a select few Star Wars games.

[up] You know what's real fun about that? All of those games listed are in a bundle that goes on a pretty steep sale on a regular basis.

It's been pretty obvious it was a failure ages ago because they went completely silent right about when the KOTOR remake collapsed and had to get switched to a different developer. I don't think Aspyr was good at basically anything but porting.

Well that sucks for anyone who only has a Switch and was looking forward to this game's cut content, but I think Zen has it right. The project just kinda didn't have any traction for a while so this being announced is less surprising in hindsight.
