Well, with the way the stages are set-up, it seems mostly setup so that Glitter will protect the zombies behind her, until they can advance close enough, then switch to punk/rap so that Punk and MC can wreck your defenses. These zombies have really powerful abilities. The consolation is, they all have low health. 2 Fume-shroom in a lane can kill a MC before he can do anything.

For Part B, some spoilers I've seen on the internet indicates the return of Garlic.

[up][up][up][up] Well, I know that's 2 months old, but I disagree on Frostbite Caves plant. Stunion is a great stalling plant, basically a better Iceberg Lettuce. Rotobaga being one of the few plants that can shoot backwards and other lanes should also not be underestimated. She's great at countering the freeze from freezing winds in FC, and great at removing octopi as well.

It's a good thing they gave the zombies low health.

The consolation is, they all have low health. 2 Fume-shroom in a lane can kill a MC before he can do anything.
Spoilers I've seen for side B: There's another zombie who activates during Rap like MC, and he pushes nearby zombies forward (not sure how many tiles). Both he and MC would be deadly together...

[up] Yeah, I've seen that too, and they look troublesome. And I don't think there's any counter to them yet besides Hurrikale or Thyme Warp. From the spoilers, the new plants don't seem to be able to counter them.

The saddest part is that they allowed Garlic to return... in a world where the zombies would counter him.

  • Punk kicks him away
  • Glitter rolls over him
  • MC micspins him
  • HMG smashes/sonic blasts him
  • Breakdancer kicks zombies past him
  • Arcade crushes him with his cabinet ala Troglobite
  • Boombox... Does he even eat? But then again he's probably a rear-line attacker who would take a longer time to reach garlic

Hmm, yeah. People have been wanting Garlic to return for ages, but now that you mention it, there are a lot of zombies that don't eat in the sequel. It may not be as useful as previously thought. Unless it works differently this time.

In comparison, Sweet Potato can attract more types of zombies, but has pitifully short range, and she needs to withstand being damaged constantly by the zombies she attract.

I still like the Sweet Potato more, as it's much easier to predict where you're leading the zombies when you're attracting zombies to certain lane instead of driving them to others, especially if you're using garlic in the middle lanes.

Yes, this thread is active again. Woohoo!

And yes, I do agree that Big Wave Beach is pukingly difficult. The worst experience I had was the stage with the Chomper. Were they honestly expecting me to beat a stage, where zombies' average mode is fucking horde, with a whole bunch of weakest plants and a plant that kills zombies one by one painfully slowly?

And this is supposed to be a purchasable plant?! Who in the right mind would buy this shit other than collection purpose!

Speaking of purpose, a while ago the Power Lily was on sale (total cost: 1.05 dollars) so I bought it immediately. That is the first time I ever spent actual money on a game.

Next time I would like to buy the Imitator, Hot Chilly, and Hypno Showroom when they are on sale.

Some of the buy-to-unlock plants seem to be available for Gems for a limited time. Few weeks ago it was the Imitater, last week the Squash. Now Torchwood is available for 179 Gems.

I think it's nice that you can buy them without spending any real money, but if you used money to buy the Gems needed for the purchase, it suddenly quadruples in price.

[up][up] I really don't see how useful the Chomper is, either. You can plant two rows of them, but they'll all still be sitting ducks in a large wave of zombies. It's borderline useless.

The same goes for the Toadstools, which (if I remember correctly) is literally just the exact same plant except it drops sun when it finishes a zombie. A large group of even normal Sunflowers can produce enough sun to plant an Ice Melon in the time it takes for one Toadstool to finish. Bonus points for being another plant you purchase with real money.

[up] I'd better look into getting the Torchwood while I still can.

I'm marathoning the endless levels like crazy to make it to the 179 before the plant changes.

I'm also ma rathoning endless levels...but I'm not that interested in getting the Torchwood.

My strategy involves around Winter Melon and hardly any bean-shooters, so....

True. I tend to prefer Laser Bean and Homing Thistle as my projectiles, so the actual usefulness of Torchwood might be debatable.

It's a shame how useless the pea shooters became in About Time. I wonder if there is anyway that can make them more useful. Probably will have to make it either splash damage or penetrating, but you know....

By the way, how many of you guys often use Chard Guard + Blover for massive damage? You know, plant a CG right under their feet and quickly plant the Blover and whoosh! Must have killed at least few hundreds of Gargantuars that way. XD

Peashooting plants' major weakness is that they only hit one zombie at a time. As said before, the default mode for the zombies are coming in hordes, so multi-target plants are vastly superior to single target plants. Even if they do less damage per target, the total damage done by a single multi-target will usually outdo a peashooting plant per attack. And then there are those multi-target plants that do even more damage...(Hi, Fume-Shroom).

Maybe if they brought back the fire pea's splash damage from Pv Z 1.

[up] The usual combo I've seen is Boosted Spring Bean + Blover, but that looks a viable strategy too. Seriously, Blover is broken in this game.

The only time I use a peashooting plant is in Icebound Battleground. Plant Fire Peashooters and Power tiles on each row, then place a plant food... Instant Smart Bomb that only gargantuar can survive.

Other than that, it's Winter Melon for me. Alongside Laser Bean if there's Parasols in Temple of Bloom.

@Kablammin: There's one thing that Toadstool has that Chomper lacks. A 3 square Range. That alone makes it a lot better than Chomper. True, it eventually sucks in endless, but it's still very fun and effective in most normal levels.

How bad is the game about shoving microtransaction stuff in your face? I'm one of the people who pretty much lost all interest in the franchise after EA gutted Popcap.

The microtransaction stuff is mainly optional, such as premium plants, buying of coins/gems/flower pots/world keys (why? This is useless, I just play levels to get all these stuff), and certain optional upgrades.

I've noticed a trend in a lot of mobile games to outright sell you gameplay unlocks, so *someone* is buying them, however dumb it is. Many of them are described as "hints" but the hints tend to be outright "solve the level for me".

@True - Yup, that's a VERY viable strategy.

And how many of you guys witnessed the power of Blover + Boosted Guacadile? Very fun, I tell ya.

[up][up]They do put adverts of premium plants every now and then, but they're not asking you to buy them (Of course, some people would)

Anyway, I found a strange strategy that works at the start of an endless level. Requires Iceberg Lettuce, (Imitated) Power Lily (to get your PF back), Tile Turnip, Winter Melon/strong attacking plants, and preferably a fifth PF slot.

Does NOT work on levels that may feature Imps in the selection screen, since the first wave will be a huge wave if the first enemy is an Imp. I tend to use this on Big Ba Butte, giving me time to place 2 columns of spikerocks (guaranteed kill on all chickens- one column isn't enough since the wrangler can release chickens on squares in front of him)

  1. Plant Sun Shroom and feed it PF immediately.
  2. Plant another Sun Shroom and Power Tile it.
  3. As soon as the first Zombie appears, stall it via Iceberg lettuce.
  4. Plant another Sun Shroom and Power Tile it (You should have enough due to the first PF).
  5. Feed the Power Tile Sun Shrooms with PF immediately.
  6. Plant another Sun Shroom and Power Tile it, then Feed the Power tiles again. DO NOT Stall the zombie with Lettuce, you're going to need it.
  7. Second wave of zombies should appear. If done right you should have about 1000 sun, place a power tile (On an Empty Square), Place the Iceberg Lettuce on it, the PF to freeze all the enemies.
  8. By now your Power Lilies should have recharged, use both of them. Now PF the Lettuce when the zombies start moving again to stop them, as well as get a lot of sun to build your defences like Winter Melon.

By the way, any advice on what Gemium I should buy next?

I have 240 Gems currently, and have already bought Homing Thistle, Ghost Pepper, and Sweet Potato. I was saving for Imitater but I missed the chance. Not interested in Squash and Torchwood.

I'm thinking either Hurrikale or Lava Guava. But I'm also considering waiting for Power Lily, Starfruit, and Cactus to become Gemium.

Go with Hurrikale. While Lava Guava is indeed awesome, if you already have Ghost Pepper you wouldn't really need similar 75 sun costing explosive.

Of course, you can wait a bit and see if another Money Plant becomes available for gems.

Now that's weird. I bought Hurrikale, which reduced my Gems to 140ish. But then I quit and re-entered the game, my Gems have suddenly been reduced to 48 Gems.

Sent an inquiry to Pop Cap about this. Hopefully can be reverted.
