Shonen Jump ToC Rankings

Saiyuki had a pretty mediocre/bad start actually, as far as I remember.

1st chapter was 6th, but 2nd chapter was 11th. Kamio yui was also like this, 1st chapter was 8th, but 2nd chapter it dropped to bottom 5. Seems 1st chapter ranking isn't a good indication for success

It makes sense. The first few chapters are those the author has the most time to work on and polish, after all.

Though there are also series that start right at the bottom, like Beast Children…

yeah and also because the first chapter are the one most heavily promoted with color pages and whatnot

Not to mention that for the most part the first chapter establishes premise, whereas the next chapters show what the series will be like on a consistent basis. It's common that something has a first chapter that shows a great premise, and then the next chapters immediately demonstrate that it isn't going to be living up to its potential.

I'll admit that regardless if people argue the manga itself has nearly similar premise with Spy X Family. I'm hoping Yozakura can survive in the future just like Chainsaw Man. It has a definite potential.

Yozakura and Spy X Family have a similar premise in the same sense that Yui Kamio and Double Taisei do.

Not living up to the coolness of its premise encapsulates my issues with Yui Kamio pretty well, certainly.

Looks like Mitama might become the resident end-of-TOC gag manga. Samurai 8 fares slightly better than in the past few weeks.

Will you look at that, Chainsawman as the front color series! Do you think it's gonna get an anime announced next year or so?

As much as I like CSM, I don't know if it's… sponsor-friendly enough to get an anime. Fire Punch didn't get one despite being quite successful, if I recall.

Being on Jump kinda ups its chances significantly. Also weirder stuff has been animated before so.

It wouldn't be the first Seinen-like title from Shonen Jump to get an anime. I mean, Hokuto no Ken was aired in a different age, but still.

Promised Neverland got an anime and it's pretty dark.

It's not the darkness, but the sexual content that makes it problematic for me.

Especially the vomit-flavored sexual content.

Meanwhile, Yozakura is still a fun ride. Though I have no idea how that water-catching bag in the mouth is supposed to work.

Hopefully yozakura can mantain its ranking and not free-fall into bottom 5

Next week, the cover will be for Act-age, yay. No MHA, though. Meanwhile, KNY volumes continue to fly off the shelves.

@Lyendith Speaking of cover, good luck on Act-Age if they ever got an anime. Been 80 chapters in and I think they deserve it.

Loss of another cash-cow for Jump. Curious to see what replaces it eventually.

Here. It's near the top of page 1 right now, you can't miss it.

At the very least it's not Beast Children.

…I realize that once Haikyuu!! ends, the oldest series in the current Jump (bar One Piece) will be My Hero Academia. Outside of it and Black Clover, there's no series that started earlier than 2016.

And all the 2016 ones are likely to end next year.

Granted Jump will most likely not let some of those series, like Neverland completely die until they milks as much money as they can from them.

So spin-offs are a possibility.
