[up]

This might be an unpopular opinion but I wouldn't mind if Ben Grimm gained the ability to shift in and out of human form.

Honestly, at this point, he deserves it.

[up] Ultimate Ben just lost his rocks and became sort of like Wonder Man.

The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]

Ben was briefly able to turn back and forth after Secret Wars, but it didn't last long.

does anyone else kinda want to see a Thing and Lockjaw teamup mini one day? I feel like that would be adorable.

At this point, actually, Ben doesn't mind his rocky form. But he is able to change back...but only on his birthday. That was the Future Foundation's birthday gift to him.

Picked up Marvel Monsters #1.

It's not really interesting. It's mostly exposition and fight scenes, but it is totally worth the five bucks for one reason.

Kid Kaiju uses Good Old Fisticuffs on Hellfire Brat Max Frankenstein In fact, the kid break's Max's goggles and nose during the fight.

I've written fanfics of the two meeting and hating each other back in 2017, but I'm happy they actually got to meet and fight.

Ben has gotten the ability to switch back and forth. Multiple times. In fact, this was used as the basis for one of the most freaking insane Fantastic Four stories I have ever read, by Adam Warren. I talked about it here. It was weird.

It ended with Ben no longer able to change back to human. It came right before Waid started his run, and I suspect Warren was asked specifically to write an arc that took away Ben's human form. Presumably, Waid wanted to do Classic Angsty Thing, which didn't really work with him being able to return to human, and Warren doing it meant Waid didn't have to spend the time changing it.

Regardless. Adam Warren has a strange, strange mind.

[up] Huh. Waid's run didn't actually do a lot of angsty stuff with the Thing, but I guess Waid just wanted him to have his classic look back.

Waid's first FF issue (Fantastic Four vol 3 #60, which was sold for 9 cents and if you think that's a weird price, it's because Marvel was trying to outdo DC, which had just released their Batman "Ten Cent Adventure") had a storyline where the Thing found a bunch of rappers on Yancy Street who made a rap about him and he ends up getting it stuck in his head.

I'm not far into Waid's run, though I have read the issue where he takes a liking to rap that's about him. An issue or two later, though, he's ready to tear Yancy St to the ground over another prank box, and he talks about how much it hurts that he looks like he does.

Waid and Wieringo's run is literally my favorite run on the FF. It's can get dark (like, really dark, especially during the "Unthinkable" arc), but Waid also knew when to make it really light and fun. And Mike Wieringo's art is simply the best.

Like, there's an issue that comes after a very serious storyline and it has Johnny going to Spider-Man for advice. And the issue ends with this image right here. And it's goddamn hilarious.

Guess so

I'm not really sure about the motivation. Infinity Wars was a mess. Apparently Gamora gathering the stones and doing something with the god quarry echoed in every universe and Phyla Blue and a Moondragon fell out of one of those alternate universe but the fact that the conflict was multiversal didn't really amount to much.

And it was revealed in Wolverine and Yet Another Wolverine Bookfinity Watch that Loki was supposed to be the villain of Infinity Wars but he asked Wolverphoenix to come back in time and retcon that.

I really hated Infinity Wars and their explanation for the origin of the Infinity Stones. I cannot get over the literal quarry of Infinity Stones.

I loved the idea of the Infinity Circuit, where each stone feeds into another, and so rather than giving the Mind Stone to say professor X to get the most out of it, you'd have to give it to someone with a mastery of Soul. Where giving the Space Stone to the Hulk lets him punch universe devouring black holes into existence.

I liked the concept that some, idunno, super celestials from outside the universe just throw infinity stones into them. Maybe to see what happens, maybe for some better reason. Loki seeing a veritable carpet of abandoned infinity stones lying on the ground was a good visual. I'm glad we didn't get definitive answers for that part because its some cosmic mystery that even Loki can't grok.

I didn't like how the new origin of the Infinity Stones had nothing really to do with the larger Infinity Wars story, such as it was. Loki just goes on a little field trip, is incredibly disappointed, comes back and excuses himself from the rest of the story.

Based on just reading Infinity Wars? I have no real idea! Its a rocky backdrop for fighting except important. Gamora got angry she couldn't no-clip through the floor but then Loki no-clipped through the floor.

Its apparently actually called the Quarry of Creation or God Quarry

The Quarry of Creation is a strange and unknown realm located at the very edge of the universe. At its bottom laid a virtually impentrable barrier that served as an access to a primordial universe where Celestials resided, guarding a deposit of countless of Infinity Stones which they delivered to different realities across the Multiverse.

Over the course of a million millenia, the Quarry of Creation became a place where old gods went to die.

It was introduced in a Thanos comic from 2017 which I guess was required reading for Infinity Wars.

It actually has a cute meta origin:

Jeff Lemire took inspiration for the God Quarry from an event involving his son Gus, a fan of Greek mythology, who once dug a deep hole in his sandbox and called it the "God Quarry." Lemire wrote down the concept, and got to work it into Thanos four years later.

So thats fun.

Okay thousands of unobtainable, unused infinity stones sat just out of reach in a known barren and abandoned location is hot fucking shit. I like that.

Speaking of Infinity stones, I haven't read infinity wars, but were they nerfed like the beyonder ? Because when I read Infinity Gauntlet, the only ones stronger than Thanos were the Living Tribunal, and the One Above All (assuming he was canon before 1991).

Plus, with six stones, you form the gauntlet, but does that mean you can have multiple infinity gauntlets ?

I'm not crazy, just creatively different.

If anything, the individual stones were given a little bit of a power boost

And yes, Infinity Wars’ plot hinged on taking the duplicate stones from Soul World to counter Gamora’s. Hypothetically there could have been a second gauntlet.

[up] I did. The Puck/Marrina story was my favourite. A bit of a story about Puck's old adventurer days, and the sweet friendship between him and Marrina. The Snowbird/Talisman story was nice. The Vindicator/Guardian story was, uh, not great.
