Cyberpunk 2077

CDPR is removing the binary gender choices to allow one to play non-binary characters, for instance.

That's always been a simple change that makes sense in games with character creators. Would be nice to see more devs follow that lead.

The way people I’ve seen complaining, you’d think this sort of thing hasn’t been done before. Saints Row’s character creation was basically a less refined version of what CDPR have planned. You choose a body type, (male-female in SR) design that body how you want, and you even have a plethora of voices to choose from, regardless of body type. You want Laura Bailey’s voice on a Schwarzenegger, Terminator-style body? Go for it. What about Nolan North on someone who basically looks like a pixie punk girl? Why not? Beard and moustache on both? Hell yeah, my man.

It’s not perfect (the fourth game makes efforts to refer to the Boss as neutrally as possible, though it slips now and then), but with what Saints Row managed to do it’s clear that the only reason people are suddenly crying foul at CSPR is because CP2077 is in the spotlight in ways that SR never was.

Seriously, why would they need a bit of text to tell them what gender their character is? I honestly don't get it and it really doesn't matter. Just pick the look you like. Just like the above mention of Saints Row.

Cause Red has publicly stated to be doing this for inclusivity.

Which automatically pisses off a particular breed of vermin.

This and the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 sadly attracted a lot of the bigoted alt-right gaemer crowd sadly so those guys are likely the ones all up in arms over this.

I am perfectly fine with this myself. I probably wouldn't use the feature as much as others would but I still think its cool that they are doing this.

It make sense too considering the themes of the cyberpunk genre.

Yeah, wouldn't all that technology help people transition much easier and faster and allow them to be more...of themselves? Express themselves better and creatively and stuff.

Seeing the chuds lose their shit over this is cathartic tho.

And wasn't Cyberpunk always something more...left-leaning? How the fuck did it attract these alt-jagoffs?

I do admit, even if I am cis, I'd love to see how creative I can get. Too bad you're in first person most of the time because with such extensive character creator, it demands a third person view instead just turning to your character menu.

Their is an Trans gang in the original Cyberpunk 2020 RPG. It was established heavily since the start that LGBT folks exist in the Cyberpunk universe and thrive their to a certain degree because of all the technologies and such.

In this universe the vast majority of people are oppressed by the big megacorps and individualism, fashion, and cosmetics are very much emphasized.

The alt-right has a significant presence among gamers, and I'm not sure why. Maybe because while a lot of medium-sized companies are left-leaning, the biggest companies (sports and shooters) are either right-leaning or aggressively non-political?

Or maybe assholes just like games where you can murder lots of people. I mean, I know a lot of writers (for various mediums) are specifically getting away from Always Chaotic Evil in general because they realized the Nazis like it. Due to the way games work, there's almost always a monstrous evil race you don't have to feel guilty about shooting.

My take would be Anita and the like criticizing games, which caused a lot of gamers to feel they were being attacked and it caused them to eventually flock to the alt-right.

That and the fact certain places where games and extreme politics exist side by side, which caused games to become a gateway to the alt-right.

Well that's sad.

Gamers have a persecution complex stemming from the olders day of gaming when it was more stigmatized and seen as a weak nerdy thing to do. The Republican media going and saying that gamers are all violent or potentially violent due to events such as Columbine and other older shootings also furthered the persecution complex. There also always been sexist and racist attitudes and players in gaming since the start and because gaming was not as popular at the start people would ignore their shittier fellow players for the sake of just having another person to play with. Gaming for some reason to some people is an identity and not just a hobby

Eventually that persecution complex developed into what you see now as the alt-right and neo-nazis preyed upon the people with horrid attitudes during a certain bad topic.

Since it got so popular due to a certain banned topic these morons have been out in droves hating on anything new and progressive that doesn't fit their ridiculous expectations. If you were to show them the Cyberpunk 2020 worldbuilding information I guarantee you they would either go in full denial or start having meltdowns like you see now because it doesn't fit in the small ass box of what they want.

The thing is though Cyberpunk being progressive has never been new so these fucking morons have been barking up the wrong tree since the start. This genre is built on transhumanism, corporate and government oppression, and individualism. Its built on politics and everything idiots like this loathe.

I'm saddened to see Angry Joe of all people complain about binary options being taken out. Just choose the "male" body and "male" voice Joe and you're there. They've just made it modular rather than an all-in-one package FFS.

That tweet of his was so stupid I was so sure it had to be satire at first. Like, creating a male character even without “male” and “female” in the character creation process isn’t rocket science, you emaciated grapefruit; even I was able to figure out how it worked just from reading an article about it. Choose a male body type, then go choose the deepest masculine voice with the biggest dong bulge you can get if you’re that insecure about your masculinity that a game that doesn’t have “male” for you to quick select is so infuriating to you.

I had to double check too - he's usually had to fight against the idiot anti-SJW segments of his fanbase, I didn't expect him to suddenly parrot their idiot talking points.

Seriously Joe, I'm sure you know what a "male" looks and sounds like. I'm sure you can fucking construct one if we give you the most basic of building blocks.

I suspect either he is falling to the anti-SJW side as sadly I have seen a few youtubers I liked do it before or he worded that really really badly.

The question in itself is pretty dumb though so sadly it might not be the latter.

It feels very storm in a teacup. It's because (Ironically) they don't have a box to put themselves into, despite complaining about other people demanding boxes of their own....

And you can be a male by... yeah choosing a body type (male) and a voice (male) and then deciding to romance non males perhaps. Or choose the sick-gruff MANLY MAN WHO MANNED options in conversations "brah". Or something?

Anyway, tomorrow we get more gameplay (15 minutes edited of the 1 hour original presentation) which I'm very much looking forward to.

He's the guy who defended Anita Sarkeesian back in the day.

Unfortunately, it seems like he's a big hypocrite, and to be honest, it doesn't surprise me, given his stage Persona as being overly angry all the time.

He also got associated with The Mandate - that big ambitious space strategy that went nowhere and people assumed was a con.

I think he's just very enthusiastic, but not that good at actual analysis.

That's generally my impression of him, an enthusiastic goof.

Based on a quick look at his replies in that thread, it looks as though he may have misinterpreted "we're removing the binary male/female selector" as "we're removing the option to play as male or female". (A quick scan doesn't indicate that he's responded much to those arguing against this interpretation—but I may easily have missed something; I only gave the thread a quick look.)

So there not removing the ability option to play as male or female? like if I want to play as a Women and be refer to as She or her will that happen or will every thing be gender neutral?

Also do we know what our character is call like in Fallout your call the vault dweller?
