Right now part of the problem with the image pickin' conversation for this trope is that we aren't even sure what counts as an example, partly because of the name.

Depending on how we interpret the "ugly guy" part, (ie. whether it implies being ugly or also counts appearances that may be "cute" but aren't attractive in the context of dating) Jessica and Roger Rabbit may or may not apply. Depending on how we interpret the "hot wife" part, (ie. whether it implies "sexy" or just "pretty") the Azumanga Daioh example may or may not apply. The Family Guy one applies either way, but only very slightly.

I suggest renaming this. One particular version to rename to I have in mind is Attractiveness Disparity. That way, it applies regardless of the sexes ("hot guy ugly wife" will no longer be an inversion, though I suppose we could soft split the examples for that) and may be a bit less prone to confusion.

How exactly does "ugly" mean anything other than "ugly"?

(edit) 618 wicks, 2736 inbounds. I think you'll need to make a much stronger case to rename this than "IP has trouble selecting a good picture".

I explained it repeatedly in the thread I linked to.

And it's not so much the IP thread in itself as the uncertainty in definition it reflects on.
