Legend of Zelda: Unit D RPG

Gondo sits in the Goron Shop at Hylia City, the city surrounding the Temple of Hylia, drinking a cup of milk.

Strewn around the room are crates of bombs, unopened and un bought, thanks to an oversight by the shop owner, who assumed Sheikah had bomb bags.

Bandages were being displayed behind the owner's stall, as were several bottles of healing potions. A red tunic was on display in a corner, beside a wooden shield, lantern oil, and some arrows.

Outside, one would see an oak tree, which had littered the ground outside the shop with acorns.

Back in the shop, Gondo was looking at a list of people who he would be leading in Unit D, an experimental new unit with a focus on infiltration and sabotage, instead of the traditional army-on-army style. In a couple days, he would meet his team in the Temple of Hylia, where they would be blessed with good fortune.

A masked Sheikah man placed his palm on the Temple's time gate, which scanned his palm, and opened a portal. The Sheikah walked through, and found himself in the Eldin Province. He whistled, and a pair of Mogma popped out of the ground.

"Whaddya want?" one of them asked.

Wordlessly, the Sheikah showed them a letter, which seemed to tell them what they needed to know, as they quickly beckoned him down, before popping back into the ground.

The Sheikah jumped down the tunnel, into Mogmanok, and next to the two Mogma.

It was a dimly lit city, with stone huts covering the place, in some spots so crowded together that tunnels going under were required to get through. from every direction, the sound of digging and mining could be heard, and in the mess of huts, the ring of a tinkers' hammer was audible. Tunnels leading to various other parts of the city, as well as treasure hunting routes, could be found all over the walls of the city.

"Wait here, we'll get him for ya." one of the them said, heading through one of the tunnels.

A young messenger entered a camp of blue tents, adorned with the eye symbols of the Sheikah, which had been put up on a field of green grass. He called out, in a voice loud enough to carry through most of the encampment, called "Hello? Is there a 'Laan' here? I have a message!"

"LD-002Y Model Eurythia, you have been rebooted, and programmed with a directive from her grace, Hylia herself. Hear now: 'You have been awakened, to serve under Unit Commander Gondo in Unit D, a Unit designed to infiltrate enemy strongholds, and sabotage them. More information shall be given at a later time'. LD-002Y Model Eurythia, you may now awaken."

After this message, Yth would find itself in a box, outside of the Goron Shop in Hylia City.

Yth slowly lit up his optic units, examining the box.

"Mission recieved. Initiating containment escape procedures."

Yth opened the top of the box and looked outside. He was in front of a building, most likely with his new leader within. He walked into the building, and noticed a Goron.

"Initiating conversation procedures... Hello! Are you Gondo the Goron?"

In his hut Ameth was sorting through the contents of his backpack, placing the recently collected Rupees into assorted piles. "One, one, five, one, five..." He pulled out what he was thought was a red rupee, only to realise in the light that it was a Rupoor. "...goin' into Nyx's pack tomorrow, five, one..."

Suddenly he stopped as the scent of a different Mogma caught his attention. Sniffing the air for a moment he hopped over to the hole in his hut and dropped down, peering into the darkness. "'Ello? Who's down here?"

"Ameth? It's me, Bric." the Mogma said, "Good, you're here. One of 'er grace's messengers has a letter for ya."

He whispered the next part. "I think they're drafting ya, Ameth. The Sheikah's just through the hole." he pointed towards the hole behind him.

"Good luck." he said, before disappearing into the earth.

"Indeed!" Gondo said, eying Yth up and down. "You must be..."

He looked at the list. "...Eurythia?" he asked.

A young, white-haired woman sat cross-legged in a tent not too far from the edge of the camp.

Din, make my arm strong so I may crush our enemies. Nayru, open my mind so that I may see The Truth. Farore, grant me-

"Hello? Is there a 'Laan' here? I have a message!"

Laan closed her eyes even tighter against the interruption, but the damage had been done; her concentration was now completely broken. Nayru had never really favored the young Sheikah...

She sighed and opened the flap of her tent, then crawled outside and stood facing the messenger. "I am Laan!" she shouted, waving.

"Oh, good!" the messenger said, walking to Laan. "Apparently, this is from the goddess herself!" he exclaimed, veneration in his voice, as he handed the letter to Laan.

If Laan reads the letter, she will see the following words:

Greetings, faithful servant! As you may know, our battles with Demise's forces have failed to successfully stave off their expansion, and they have built several fortresses and strongholds. This turn of events has made it necessary to create some... Experimental Units.

Thusly, it has been decided that the creation of an infiltration unit will be formed. Thusly, you have been reassigned to Unit D, under Unit Commander Gondo. Report to him as soon as possible.

"Eh?!" Ameth took the letter and skimmed through it, picking out 'Demise', 'infiltration' and 'Unit D'. Oh yeah, it was that thing he'd talked with the leader about last week. "How'd I get ta this 'Gondo' though?"

Maybe that Sheikah Bric had mentioned would help. Hurriedly emptying his bag and repacking a few essentials he climbed into the tunnel and followed it back the way Bric had come. Once there he popped his head out and looked around. "Hey, Sheikah dude? Or lady? Know where I can find this Gondo guy?"

Laan's hand shook ever so slightly as she took the letter from the messenger and read it. Ah- She- She called me a "Faithful Servant!"

An infiltration unit, huh? Sounds pretty awesome!

"Now..." she addressed the messenger, "Where can I find this 'Gondo'?"

Affirmative. However, for the sake of punctuality, I have been called Yth in the past. I hope to serve you to the best of my abilities... Whatever those abilities may be...

Yth suddenly realized that something was wrong. He felt... Different. He'd need to run a systems check at some point in the future...

"Up." the Sheikah answered, before putting on a pair of hookshots. He positioned himself below the tunnel he dropped through, and was hidden by shadows in the tunnel almost immediately.

"He should be in Hylia City..." the messenger replied, "...Probably hanging out in the Goron Shop."

He pointed behind himself. "We have a time portal about a mile in that direction. Once you have all your stuff, head to it!"

He saluted Laan, before running back to where he came from.

Gondo grinned. "Good to here, soldier!" he said, "We'll call you 'Yth', then."

He formed his face into a more serious expression, after taking a swig of his milk. "So, Yth, before we start this... Are you programmed with sentience?" 

Sentience? No, sir. I've been programmed with a "personality" that will respond accordingly to situations, but no sentience. Would you prefer it if I was? I could contact my creators and see to gaining it. I've heard they've done it quite well with the later LD series robots.

Goron shop? "No problem! Thanks a lot!"

Lann rushed back to her tent to pick up the couple of items she knew she would need: Her trusty boomerang and her brother's "knife", a curved blade that she strapped across her back.

She also took the time to gather her bedroll and set it off to the side. She then picked up some loose pieces of parchment (a few handy prayers were written on them) and placed them in her pack.

After taking one last look around, she adjusted her pack and quickly dashed off toward the Time Portal.

I wonder who my partners will be? Are they Sheikah, too? Do I know them? I wonder if they also picked Grumn and Zen. I haven't seen them since they left home... She imagined sneaking through a fortress with her bothers, just like they pretended to when they were young. But this time, I won't scream when I see a Ghoma. Heh.

"Ah." Gondo said, "Well, maybe sometime. Right now, you're needed for the war."

He finished his milk, and stretched a little.

When Laan reached the portal, she would see a large bluish-green circle, which appeared to have moving gears inside deep in the circle, she would be able to see the inside of the Temple of Hylia.

"Ah, there you are!" the messenger said, "Just head through the portal, and I'll show you to Gondo!"

"The surface, eh?" Ameth hopped on his tail over to the nearest wall and dug his claws into it, scaling the surface easily. Getting to the ceiling he started digging a second tunnel close to the first, and soon joined the Sheikah at the surface. Still in Eldin, and not seeing any big rock guys hangin' around... "So, where we goin' from here?"

Flying along with the breeze, Mina made her way through the day-time air above the city of Hylia. It wasn't a very long distance from where she started, but with this whole world to see, the best place to start, she believed, was right here. Almost invisible at a distance against the light of day, she flew above the city, looking down and looking at all of the interesting sights with an inquisitive mind.

After flying around, she decided to take a break and landed on one of the roofs near the temple. Pulling out a large blueberry she started munching into it as she leaned forward, looking down at the curiosities below.

The Sheikah pulled his sleeve down, revealing a bracelet covered in numbers and letters. 

Rapidly, he put in some sort of combination, causing the bracelet to emit a beam, which soon turned into a portal identical to the one Laan saw.

The Sheikah kneeled down. "Get on my back." he said.

When Laan reached the portal, she stopped for a moment to catch her breath and gazed at the portal. I've only done this a coupel of times, but mabe it won't be so bad since my stomach's empty...

After checking that everything was secured tightly, she braced herself and stepped through the portal.

Yth nodded.

"Excuse me, sir, do you have a room where I could perform a... erm... systems check?"

"Some fancy tech ya got there." Ameth commented, impressed as he hopped onto her back. "Can't say I'm too fond of goin' into a freaky looking portal like that, but if you Sheikah folk trust it..."

Soon, Laan was in the Temple hall, a stone chamber held up by six columns. In front of her, the ground rose, with 9 stairs leading up to a huge door. In front of the door, an extremely old man sat in the robes of Hylia's high sage. To her left, the temple gardens could be seen. To her right, a small set of doors stood open, leading out into the city. Behind her, the time portal stood open, and behind it, there was another door, leading into the main city. 

The messenger soon came out of the portal. "Another member of Unit D should be here soon." he said, "We'll wait for him."

"There's a stall behind the shop." Gondo advised, as he ordered another mug of milk.

The Sheikah stood up, and ran through the portal.

The Sheikah and Ameth soon entered the Temple of Hylia, where the Sheikah set Ameth down, and left.

"Ah, there you are!" the messenger said. "You two will be team mates!" he pointed at Laan and Ameth.

Goron Shop, Hylia City... this is it. The place in my deployment order''"

Allene gulped down, looking once again at the piece of paper in her hand. Deployment orders. For her. If they had told her a week ago that she would be assigned to a military unit serving the Goddess Hylia herself after all that boring work guarding scientist in Lanayru... Well, suffice to say that Allene would have never believed it.

Still, here she was... in her uniform, wearing her cute blue beret, shield and sword hanging from her back together with all her stuff.

Feeling just a tad nervous but a whole lot more excited about the prospects, the young human entered the shop "E-Excuse me! I'm looking for Gondo the Goron! I'm Allene and I was told I would be expected here"

"I'm Gondo!" Gondo said, raising his hand in greeting, and walking back to his list. "Allene... Yes..."

He looked up. "So, you've had a few encounters with monsters, I see. Tell me, have you fought any Technoblins?" he asked.

"Ah, yes sir! I fought with a few of them in my encounters" said the nervous young human as she saluted, talking a tad fast but fully understandable "They are... kind troublesome. My shield doesn't work well against their attacks and I have to time my hits very well... I can't parry their strikes and neither can I parry theirs so I either have to strike fast and accurate the first time or get some room to evade"

"Ah, b-but even though they are troublesome I can deal with some... no, sorry, with any number of them you require of me, sir!"

Yth walked to the stall and began the system examinations.

[SYSTEMS SCAN INITIATING...]

[NO CHANGES TO INTERNAL WORKINGS]

[NEW ATTACHMENT: FLAMETHROWER]

[PURPOSE: PROJECT FLAMES AT ENEMIES WITH INTENT TO BURN OR KILL]]

[DANGER TO SELF: MINIMAL]

[DANGER TO ALLIES: POSSIBLY GREAT]

The system scan finished, Yth returns to the others.

"System scans complete. All is operational, leader.

Gondo chuckled. "Glad to hear it!" he said, clapping Allene "You'll do well."

He looked over at Yth. "Ah, good..."

"Well, we should be getting you two to Gondo!" the messenger said, "Follow me!"

He walked around the time portal, and exited through the doors to the main city.

In front of them, Ameth and Laan would see a huge statue of Hylia, surrounded by apple trees. To the left of them, they would see the bustling market district. To their right, they would see the guild district, where a vast number of organizations made their headquarters.

The messenger lead them into the market district, past the Shield Shop, the Potion Shop, a tool shop, a Kikwi gardening stop, the Bazaar, until finally, they turned a corner, and reached the Goron Shop.

"Gondo should be in there." the messenger said, excusing himself.
