Apparently, Toriyama was sick since last year.

In honor of Toriyama, I went and picked up a 3-in-1 of the first 3 volumes of the original "Dragon Ball" at Barnes & Noble.

The impact that Toriyama has had to the world of fiction cannot be understated, this man created a worldwide phenomenon that expanded anime worldwide in a dramatic way and inspired so many things.

Even Pokemon wouldn't exist as it was if it wasn't for him, since a lot of the early inspiration for the series was dragon quest and the capsules from Dragon Ball.

What he did for Anime, Manga, and Video Gaming has created an unforgettable legacy, and he will be missed.

I've been rewatching clips out of a sense of wistfulness, and it's still funny that the most evil person in the entire Tournament of Power, by a wide margin, is on the main characters' team, Freeza. And the tournament ends with Freeza and Goku double-teaming Jiren to win.

I was going to say that Frost might be worse, but I guess overall he caused less damage because he tried to effectively play both sides and wasn't an outright tyrant. He also loses everything after the two universe tournament so he must not have been in any position of really overwhelming power.

To be fair we don't know what a lot of these characters did back home. Sure it's unlikely they're worse than Space Napohitler but not impossible. [lol]

I wonder what else he had planned for us.

We know Daima was coming, putting it's own spin on the Goku gets turned into a kid idea GT introduced, and it was even bringing back the Nyoibo.

I wonder what else Toriyama had in the pipe.

It's devastating that we'll never get to see what other stories he had in mind. The fact he was still helping to create new content for dragon ball (even if his health issues were going back a year) and now that's done is a painful blow.

Like, he brought back the Red Ribbon Army and androids in Super. Who knows what other past ideas he was planning on mining.

There were times when I wished Toriyama had done things differently, and I've stated that, but he truly was the GOAT, and the world is lesser now with him gone.

It is kinda hard to say. Iyoku did say they had a whole decade worth of Dragon Ball planned out, but how much of that Toriyama actually worked on beyond just Daima is just speculation at the moment. We do know he was also working on the new Sandland anime, as well as Dragon Quest XII. I do wonder what direction Toyble, Sasuke, Shueisha, Toei, Iyoku, Horii, and everyone else he knew are going to take his projects.

It's definitely going to feel a bit weird seeing future Toriyama projects in this new posthumous era. I just hope everyone involved is doing alright.

I'm sure Daima is going to include a memorial for him. I hope every project he worked on does, just to honor all the work he put into them.

Was it around the time he had Daima planned out? If so, I might have a theory on why he returned goku and co back to kids: He knew he might pass on soon and wanted to give the series a fresh start to allow for a new direction.

I think it was more because he knew his time would come and wanted to make preparations for when that happened.

Man, I can't believe he's gone. It felt too soon.

I haven't watched Dragon Ball in years but I can't deny it was part of my childhood and of many others of my generation, to say nothing of how many people others he inspired with his works. Jesus.

Rest in peace Mr. Toriyama. May your legacy never die.

I dunno how much Toriyama planned this out (what an awful context to use this sentence for this time). Hematomas can happen from just a bump to the head in his age.

On some level, this makes Daima turning the cast into kids even more poignant. Toriyama's final work is him returning to his DB roots.

In honor of Toriyama, Mexico’s largest tv station has been running a Dragon Ball marathon, while in Central America El Salvador declared a national day of mourning for him.

CyberConnect2 also closed for the day yesterday. The CEO of the company actually broke down crying after news broke of Toriyama's passing.

It’s crazy to think that Toyotaro is now working alone.

Before he was collaborating a lot of work with Toriyama, sharing designs, bouncing off ideas, and of course the veteran Toriyama providing plenty of advice to his mentee.

And now he’s on his own, no one by his corner offering a guiding hand. That’s sad to think about.

[up] Damn that is heartbreaking time hear.

Hematomas can also be caused by surgery complications, and Toriyama had brain surgery last month to remove a tumor.

Imo there's something that's always lost when Toriyama isn't involved. Everyone cares about the powers, the fights, the epic scale and the transformations, but I feel that - as the man who created it all - Toriyama was the only person attached to the franchise who ever really got that Dragonball was really about the characters and the fun and excitement that comes from them being on adventures in the same space.

I dunno, I just feel like whenever other writers are working without Toriyama, the characterization invariably takes a hit. Toyotaro's not super great at characterization either, but I guess I hope he's been learning.

[up]This is true.

I felt the ideal situation for adapatation was Toriyama setting the groundwork with an actual manga, and the anime following, while occasionally adding in some stuff to fill the gaps he doesn't bother with and expanding things.

They didn't do that with Super, letting both versions go off on their own, and now they can't try.

As you said, something will be lost in the process and now he's not here to fix things. All we probably have are whatever notes he may have left behind.

But that's how it is now. It sucks, but we have to accept it and see where the series goes now that he's gone.
