Indeed, but this still shouldn't be the default.

No, it should. Just about everything else that is not an actual wiki page is paginated now/already.

Besides, the default should be a decent size value, like 100 or 200.

You misunderstand my post. I do think paginating the default makes sense. But I don't think the expanded view should be the default, it should be a second page accessed through the first.

I am afraid we can't get this - from Fast Eddie's comments in an old Wiki Talk thread, the Related page only saves the wick and not the surrounding text.

Other than by completely redesigning the database, of course.

If I knew coding related to this site, I would gladly help set such a thing up.

Too bad. sad

the Related page only saves the wick and not the surrounding text.
That's to be expected, since that table alone is one of the site's largest (in terms of raw row count). That doesn't make it impossible though ... what we'd need first and foremost is a server-side regex to isolate a specific wick in a specific article's source text and show that; then we can worry about whether it should be automatic when you view a Related page or a separate click/request (e.g. AJAX integrated).

Either way, what needs to be done (at least where TRS is concerned) is a way to go from the "Related" page to wick context in fewer clicks. Currently you have to click on the page's link -> (wait for page load) -> click the "Source" link -> browser Find function. If we could cut out the second/third steps entirely that would increase the speed of a Wick Check like fivefold.

So, basically, a tech hooked on a Related page that shows (and searchs) the source of linked pages whenever it's requested?

Direct link to show source would be good. Direct link to search/highlight wikiword in source would be awesome.

I will say that this is unlikely to happen in the short term. Not because it wouldn't be useful (it would), but because of the required wiki and development resources that could better be put towards other projects.

[up]Oh, I fully accept this could take a while. I just think it should be at least on the consideration list.

For the record, paginating the Related list would make the already arduous process of running the Trope Overdosed multiple-pages script infinitely more annoying.

Has this been moved completely to the noticeboards?

Meh, will ask for these as part of 2.0. Doubly so as a reliable crosswick table is a must for that to work.
