The LSU Tigers playing the Clemson Tigers in the National Championship game reminded me of one of my all-time favorite Simpsons jokes from the episode where The Simpsons go to India.

Guard: Behind one of these doors is a vicious man-eating tiger and behind the other door is Homer.

Lenny: There's tigers behind both of them!

Guard: One of the tigers is named Homer.

During a Television Critics Association Panel for his series "Brookmire," Hank Azaria told /Film he would be retiring from the voice of Apu.

Not too surprising, I suppose.

Honestly, it's easier for me to believe that the show would rather retire Apu then get a new voice actor or add a new character. The show is absolutely stubborn to change and whenever it has to, they never really go all the way with it.

For example, after Marcia Wallace died, the show was very slow to have a new fourth grade teacher for Bart. It was simply easier for the creative team to avoid writing scenes where Bart would need a teacher. It took six years for them to have Ned take over as Bart's new teacher, and I don't think there have been that many episodes that focused on that (I've admittingly seen little of the new episodes).

There are other examples I can name, but it really wouldn't surprise me if the show just wrote around Apu's absence instead of trying to fill it in the future.

Usually, when an actor passes or retires (for whatever reason) from the Simpsons, the character dies with them (Maude Flanders voice actress, who temporarily quit The Simpsons, is why she was killed off even though the actress came back). Now it's possible Apu will get a new voice (even though the real problem with Apu isn't being voiced by a white guy), but it's also possible that they'll kill off Apu and we'll never see him or his extended family again.

Killing off Apu would be a terrible idea. Personally, I'd have Apu leave to go back to India with Manjula and then use a character who hasnt been seen in quite a while and have them run the Kwik-E-Mart. Someone like Scott Christian or Eddie. Now, while they were essentially dry "straight man" characters, putting them in a new environment might help give them a second wind. Sadly, the writers would probably just use Gil.

I don't think anyone said Apu has to literally die. That's what the bus is for.

Why Apu have to die or leave. Simply don't write any dialogue for him.

Speaking of characters appearing or not appearing, whatever happened to Bashir and his parents? The Simpsons wiki/fandom/pedia/whatever its called now lists he has cameos in some episodes, I watch them, but can't find him.

I did say that Apu should die, repeatedly, in many threads. He is utterly miserable, his marriage is loveless, he cannot escape it via divorce. Please Matt Groening let Apu die.

Your solution to people being miserable is killing them?

It's not politics at all. I sincerely think so. Poor Apu cant be happy anymore. It would be better if he did die. I'd suggest that any character in Apu's situation should just end it all.

EDIT: I didnt mean to condone suicide, I meant to any writer who has a character in a situation like Apu.

2ND EDIT: I hate politics, so no worries there. And I would never suggest a real life person should die.

I think that's just two and a half decades of accumulated Soap Opera/Sitcom Drama. Every character on this show ought to be a shuddering ball of angst by now with what they have gone through over the years.

Disney put together a collection of clips of The Simpsons making fun of... Disney!

They omitted a lot, including the most brutal takes.

  • Skinner taking out the Disney lawyers for threatening him over "The Happiest Place on Earth."
  • "I'm the mascot of an evil corporation!"
  • "Roger Meyers, Sr., the gentle genius behind Itchy & Scratchy loved and cared about almost all the peoples of the world and he, in return, was beloved by the world except in 1938 when he was criticized for his controversial cartoon 'Nazi Supermen Are Our Superiors'."
  • Diz-Nee Historical Park. Sorry, but there's profit to be had. [A swipe at the proposed Disney's America in Virginia.]

They also did Star Wars and Marvel.

They're using the same 16:9 edits that FXX was using, which means cropped or stretched shots. Other than that, it's fine.

Now that Disney owns the Simpsons, the Simpsons can use the Pirates Of The Carribean theme.
