Somewhere along the midpoint of the series a new villain archetype shows up. FAR stronger and more dangerous than The Empire as an antagonist (at least until Villain Decays sets in), but either doesn't want anything to do with them or at the very least an occasional reluctant ally/Psycho for Hire; either way he almost always has his own agenda. Is there an existing trope that sort of best describes this character archetype?
I first saw it when watching Bioman as a kid and Bio Hunter Silver made his debut, which kinda threw my good guy/bad guy compass out of whack for the first time.
