Team Ninja intends to reboot both DOA and Ninja Gaiden.
It should be noted that "reboot" doesn't have context here. It could mean anything from "starting entirely from scratch" (the usual hard reboot) or "keep the characters and circumstances, but seriously rethink the entire gameplay loop" (the soft reboot).
Might be for the best, because did the last NG game leave room for a new title?
I'd love for Koei Tecmo to either develop (or let an indie studio try) a retro 2D Ninja Gaiden title. Cyber Shadow and the Messenger already show how much value the genre still has, and essentially getting the 16 or 32 bit NG game we never got (with the trilogy on SNES being a bit underwhelming) would be a cool novelty.
I did eventually get the Master Collection when it was on sale... It's not Ninja Gaiden at its best. But it's still Ninja Gaiden.
Seriously considering platinuming Sigma 2 but that'd probably wind up being a years-long journey. Chapter Challenge on Master Ninja while needing a Master Grade can lead to almost half an hour of lost progress at a time... That could wind up being. Disheartening. Honestly taking on all four greater fiends at once feels less daunting. At least that's going to be a mercifully short battle when you fail.
What the fuck did they do to my beloved Kusari-Gama in III.
So "the door is open, but there’s nothing behind it… yet."
"Masocore" is such a fitting name for this genre by the way.
