I played Giovanna, so I got the Not-New-York one constantly (or am I wrong that certain stages were attached to certain character, and that the game would randomly spawn either yours or the one attached to your opponent?), but I think my favorite was Leo's palace, with the twisted statues in the background.

As for the "Sfondi" thing it "originated" from one of the Guilty Gear X D Rama C Ds. Specifically this one with the line in question:
at about 8:23 is the line that caused all the "Sfondi" fuss...except listening closely, not even VERY closely just listening at all, you clearly hear Ky saying "Johnny's family."
