A thread to discuss the Trails Series of video games (known in Japan as the Kiseki series). Adaptations of the games are also on-topic.

As of May 2024, there is no specific spoiler policy for this thread, which means the the default forum spoiler policy applies. In summary:

  • Spoilers for non-episodic works should remain tagged for a minimum of one month after the work's release.
  • Spoilers for episodic works (including any DLC) should remain tagged for one month or until the next instalment releases, whichever is shorter.
If releases for different markets, systems and/or languages are on different dates, this is measured from the earliest one.

(I searched forum titles several times, but did not find a thread for this game. If I missed it, remove this topic.)

There hasn't been much good news in months for people who want more Legend Of Heroes VI in English. Xseed has apparently been translating the second installment for PSP, but no release date yet, and they apparently have not had much sales success. Meanwhile, there have been no official statements about releasing the Windows versions in English.

But thanks to this Andriasang article, I learned that Aeria Games (best known for MMORPGs) plans to release the Trails in the Sky trilogy internationally on smartphones. Some online and social functions will be added to the basic gameplay. No clear indication of what international smartphone platforms just yet.

Calvard seems like our best bet to learn about the lands to the East. I still have to wonder about Kevin's line in SC about the Reverie reminding him of a smaller machine discovered in Calvard.

I can only imagine the Sept-Terrion of Time will be there.

I was kind of hoping that the Water and Air Sept-Terrions would be there, to make, like, a storm thing to act as a counterpart to Erebonia's Steel. You know, since they're enemies and all.

[up]I think we can make decent guesses at the locations of the remaining Septerrion at this point.

Time is very likely in Calvard (or possibly Ored depending onwhether the Calvard games go there.) per Vatek's reasoning above.

I suspect Water is in Leman (quite probably Arteria itself). If I remember right Kevin's description of it features water prominently and it makes sense that the church would be based at or near the location of a Septerrion.

Air is probably in either North Ambria or Remiferia given the role of wind in Nord religion and the fact that the highlands themselves seem to be associated with Lost Zem (Earth), personally I'm leaning toward Remiferia; my reasoning is in the following spoiler due to significant spoilers for a lot of stuff.

(Major Spoilers for info revealed in CS3&4 with series wide impact First with Erebonia's annexation of North Ambria I doubt were're going to be getting a game set there as that would be another game(s) set in Erebonia. Further with the reveal that the Salt Pale is something from "Outside" I don't think something like that could have intruded into the domain of a Septerrion without causing much worse effects than it did.

CS 4 So is it confirmed then that the Pale's Divergent? With the tons of implications MB reveals in 4 about what's outside of Zemuria, aka Aidios' creation, it begs the question what that is exactly. And why he can't leave it to return to wherever he's from.

[up](CS4)I'm pretty sure it was explicitly confimed; I'm a bit shaky on exactly what was said but the phrase 《塩の杭》 which Google is translating as "Salt Pile" was used 4-5 times during the discussion and the image we've seen of it was shown as well. I'm absolutely certain MC Burn is compared to it and that he both accepts and confirms that comparison. Given that I' reasonably comfortable saying that it's true but there's just enough room for me to be misunderstanding it that I don't want to say it was confirmed.

I started up Trails in the Sky this week as the next game on my JRPG to play list. I was given it for my birthday 3 years ago, but I only played a couple of minutes before getting distracted.

I've just finished Chapter 1 and I'm loving it so far. I can 100% see why the series is so highly recommended.

One of the things I'm quite enjoying is the personality of the main characters. It's been fun having the slow realization that Cassius is a Big Deal. Despite Estelle not realizing it.

The fact I can speed though battles is also super neat. My right trigger gets a lot of use when travelling between towns.

That's already a good head start, appreciating the series really just comes down to the right mindset. Have you talked to the NPC characters?

Honestly,as much as I love Trails, I haven't touched it in months on account of not having as much time as I used to. I just wish these games weren't so time consuming. Though part of that might be because I make a point of fighting every enemy on the map at least once. Anyone have any tips on speeding up playtime?

[up][up]Yes I have been, since I've heard the NPC dialogue is a strong point of the series.

I've been talking to everyone at least once, when I first arrive in an area. And then again if they're relevant to the area I'm in for the main quest.

I'm not getting absolutely everything, but I think I'm hitting a healthy balance.

I also want to say I remember them being a leader in medical technology but can't recall where I heard that; could've been in a game or something I read online.

Bit late but I just got to a part in Azure where Wazy literally says that Remiferia is "Known for its advanced medicine". So there you go.

Where's Remiferia located on the map? I think I saw a bit of a map of Akatsuki show it once but can't remember.

On an unrelated note Campanella is totally cheating at this game.

North of Calvard; it also borders North Ambria and the Nord Highlands. I don't know that an official world map exists; there is a fan made map (note that map is as of the end of CS2 so spoilers for everything prior) though.

It's reasonably accurate to the borders we do see in game as far as the details I can recall go.

But I do kind of want to see him genuinely freak the fuck out. Like, get absolutely livid.

Done with Chapter 2 of Trails in the Sky.

Kloe is great.

I think the thing I like most about the writing in this game is how realistic it is?

No one tells you secrets about themselves, even after becoming friends with Estelle and Joshua. And you can tell there's a whole bunch of faction maneuvering going on that goes over Estelle's head.

Its the same with the NP Cs from what I can see too. People don't really tell you any deep dark secrets when you chat with them.

I'm also enjoying the way we get cutaways to the plot with stuff like Agate fighting the commander of the Black Hoods.

The story feels like a fantasy novel, a good one, filtered though a JRPG lens. Which in my eyes is a very big positive.

Finally started playing Cold Steel 2 again, and it's just as great as when I last picked it up. I've also gotten my airship by now, which really opens up the game and helps speed things up a bit. So that helps.

[up][up] Keep talking to those NP Cs throughout all the games. After every major event you will notice that they change position and have different lines as their lives move as yours does.

Done with Chapter 4! And the plot thickens~

I think it's a positive sign that I assumed I was 18-20 hours in, and when I went to check my save I had just over 30.

Not too much to say about this chapter. The plot was great. I liked how a relatively more serious chapter is after university shenanigans.

I ended up using a guide for a bunch of the side quests this time, I'd only looked up one or two previously, because I was worried about missing stuff.

Particularly with the Elmo cutoff, I almost missed most of them by trying to do Temp Librarian Plus first.

I was also a tad frustrated with the Gameplay/Story Segregation with Agate.

Tita's AOE Blind is extremely useful Agate! Even if she's very squishy compared to the rest of the party.

Also, just a fun thing that I appreciate is the Gameplay/Story integration regarding Tita's stats. She's this adorable kid running into battle with a bunch of trained fighters and her stats reflect that; in every single field she's basically got below average stats compared to the rest of the party, but her weapon and crafts allow her to have a niche so she doesn't feel like dead weight without it being strange how this kid is somehow so strong.

I've always found her invaluable for destroying mobs. And with bosses that are weak to it, blind is so useful.
