Very amused to see that New Democrats in Fredericton seem to be strategically voting for the Greens (the Greens are winning; the NDP has about 6%).
NDP and Greens agree on upwards of 90% of policy issues (seriously, look at Vote Compass on the CBC), so it's a good call.
Hoping the Greens can win it!
They're claiming it was a mistake (the calls said "vote tomorrow" and were started on Sunday). 'Malicious or stupid' is not a good look, but I wouldn't have expected anything more from them, truly.
I gave the Greens serious consideration this year, even read their platform from front to back.
I ultimately went against it due to them not being viable in Nova Scotia, and them having anti-nuclear and anti-NATO stances.
CTV just called a Liberal win, though they are still short of a majority. Looks like the Bloc isn't doing as well as the polls said.
Update: CBC is also projecting a Liberal government, so we've got a consensus going.
—- And in bonus good news, Bernier is losing in his old seat!

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Guess Bernier had better figure out a way to reclaim his deposit - assuming he can.
I hold the secrets of the machine. Is the Liberals winning a good or a bad thing?

Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundVery good night for the Bloc, too bad their gains came mostly from the NDP.
Still, Liberal Minority is perfectly acceptable outcome. Especially with the People's Party getting throughly thrashed.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."The major outlets are now calling a Minority Lineral government, what remains to be seen is if they, the NDP and the Greens can collectively reach 170 seats and stabilize parliament somewhat. Otherwise, they need to work with the Bloc, and no federalist party likes doing that.
The only other realistic option is a Conservative minority, and since they are GOP lite... do the math.
True, though we all knew the NDP was going to get mauled in Quebec tonight.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. So even though they have the most seats so far, it's considered a Liberal Minority government? I guess it's because they couldn't hit the 170 seat quota, right? Kind of a misnomer there.
I think we'll settle into a Liberal Minority. Anybody else find it strange how little Trudeau's 'ambitious costumes' factored into this election?
GIVE ME YOUR FACEAn amusing side note- the Rhinoceros Party note appears to have found a second guy named Maxime Bernier who lives in the same riding, and convinced him to run. So there are two Maxime Berniers on that particular ballot, and neither of them are winning.

"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."I have to say, I am impressed with Doug Ford's ability to shut up for several weeks. The silence from him was deafening.
Its looking like the NDP is making gains in BC, so they can support a Liberal minority on their own if need be. Here's hoping Trudeau and Singh can play nice for a few years.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Guy who I made buddy buddy with in Manila mentioned it via FB when he moved back to Alberta. Told him that I never heard of the party even after I got naturalized.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"So apparently Trudeau's been relected?
Not entirely sure how Canadian politics work, honestly.
Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundTrudeau personally won his own seat. His party gained the most seats in the House of Commons, so he will form a government as Prime Minister. However, he won't be winning 50%+ of the seats, so he forms a minority and has to work with Opposition parties (probably the NDP/Greens) to pass laws and keep his government from falling.
Its like the US House of Representatives election, except its the only race that matters (Senate is appointed and largely a rubber stamp, and the closest thing we have to a present is a ceremonial Governor-General).
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Seems like it. The Liberals hold the most seats, which should state the obvious. Don't know what the last sets of seats were like, but in the Federal scope, looks like Handsomeness wins again, for now.
Net seat change for each party probably won't be available for another few hours. Some races were close, and many of the polls stayed open for hours longer because they can't legally close as long as people who showed up before closing time are in line.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. It's also been a very good night for the Greens. It looks like they're going to double their seats.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."Elected in 2, and leading in another 2.
I think the big winners tonight are the Liberals (who are approaching 160 seats, above polling projections), the Bloc (for getting back into relevance), and the Greens (above mentioned breakouts outside of May's riding).
The NDP stopped the bleeding to some extent, but even with their caucus almost halved, they hold the balance of power.
The Tories gained seats, and remain the government in waiting if the Liberals screw up more, but they just did not do well enough in Ontario and elsewhere.
The PPC....can fuck right off because even Bernier lost. They failed to win a single seat.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. The fact that Bernier lost made me laugh. A liberal minority isn't so bad, all things considered. Looks like they'll have enough seats to govern if they play nice with the NDP.
I mean, it's kind of weird to say that a party that lost almost thirty seats is a winner, but then I suppose I can't disagree.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."Lisa Riatt of all people was defeated, I did not expect her to lose tonight.
The House's longest serving Liberal, Ralph Goodale, lost his Regina seat. That was pretty predictable, but it was still close.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.A similar thing happened in the UK, but it was actually considered a loss for the Tories despite them still having more seats. There's some important key differences though:
- The polls all seemed to suggest that the Tories would win big in an election, but they didn't. Though 538's analysis pointed out that it was more complicated than that.
- It was a snap election — May didn't have to call that election but did it anyway thinking her party would win big due to aforementioned polls. So it was basically a massive "own goal".
- Labour was expected to lose big, but they actually gained seats. This weakened the narrative that their leader Jeremy Corbyn was incompetent.
- The entire point of the snap election was May wanting to strengthen her position in Brexit negotiations. It had the opposite effect.

Disgusted, but not surprisedBig difference is that this wasn't a snap election, and Trudeau isn't handling something as impossible as Brexit.
Also, he has potential allies who aren't the DUP.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Scheer's going to make a lot of noise about having the largest vote share, I bet, but nobody's listening to that when 2/3 of the country opposes him.
Really, all the parties have something to be happy about, and most have something to be sad about:
- The Liberals lost seats and their majority, but retain a strong minority government. They've also kept most of their Quebec seats - the Bloc's gains were mainly at the expense of the NDP, only picking up a handful of Liberal seats - and retained their strength in Ontario. They won almost all of the seats in the Markham-Scarborough and Brampton-Mississauga suburbs of Toronto, which was decisive in how (comparatively) well they did.
- The NDP lost a lot of seats and did worse than expected, but hold the balance of power.
- The Conservatives gained seats, but less than they hoped, and are still the opposition.
For the Bloc and the Greens, it's been a good night.

Liberals look to be retaining most of their seats here in Atlantic Canada, dropping a few to the NDP and Tories.
And we also had robocalls pop again, telling people that the election was tomorrow.

Some of been linked to right-wing groups like Canada Proud. But do remember, a Conservative staffer (re:scapegoat) went to jail for pulling this in 2011.
