Aren't they fun?

Example: tonight in Major League Baseball, four of them were accomplished (three single game and one for a season). The season was the St. Louis Cardinals coming from 10 and a half games out to win the National League Wild Card.

And then we have the single game ones.

  • The Philadelphia Phillies come back from 3-2 in the top of the ninth to tie and then defeat the Atlanta Braves 4-3 in thirteen innings, eliminating Atlanta from the NL Wild Card race.
  • The Baltimore Orioles come back from 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth to tie and then defeat the Boston Red Sox 4-3 to put the Red Sox a half game back in the American League Wild Card.
  • And the best one, the Tampa Bay Rays came back from 7-0 down in the bottom of the eighth inning against the New York Yankees, scored six in the eighth and one in the ninth to send the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the 12th, the Rays hit a walk-off home run to win the game, eliminate the Red Sox and win the AL Wild Card.

September 28th, 2011 should officially be the Day of the Miracle Rally.

Baltimore... I'll buy that, considering that they're one of the two Butt Monkies of the AL East (the other being Toronto).

Philadelphia, on the other hand... No. They had 101 wins going into Day 162. They weren't really playing for anything besides padding their win total. (Not to say that they should've sat their starters, they shouldn't have. But the best team in Baseball is expected to win. And, yes, I am a bit bitter, but the fact is my boys have no one to blame but themselves for being only 1 game up on the Cards going into the Philly series.)

The Tampa Bay game, Yes, and hopefully we'll see more of that. but I find it striking that you mention St. Louis' September and neglect to mention Tampa Bay's. Yes, coming back from 7 down in the 8th to win in the 12th against The Empire is the textbook definition. Still, no love for how they were able to catch up with Boston?

As for St. Louis: Agree that it's good thus far, but their first round opponent is the aforementioned Phillies. Still, if the Cards advance, then it's a definite Miracle Season, regardless of what happens after.

If not, then my Bravos choked, both that game and the whole of September. Pure and Simple.
