Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

Goddamn. RIP Stan Lee. I really do hope he did film his cameo for Avengers 4...
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself.Excelsior.
We truly lost a legend here. Everyone's been talking about their favorite Stan Lee cameos, but this one is my personal favorite. In a scene that brought finality to one of Lee's most enduring characters... well, I guess it's just fitting to post now.

I read an article a while back that mentioned Stan Lee already recorded his cameos for several movies in advance including Infinity War, Thor Ragnarok, and Avengers 4. I don't remember if they mentioned where it stopped or if Avengers 4 was the last one.
If one of the characters dies and ends up in the afterlife I expect we'll hear or rather see Stan lee in the background
or he'll be at the pearly white gates and be like "Come on through we've been expecting you"...cue dissolve to credits
New theme music also a boxIt's a short fanfic, but I thought it was sweet:https://archiveofourown.org/works/16604411
...Fuck.
I don't even know what to say. 95 years is a lot of time to get shit done. Rest in peace.
Self-serious autistic metalhead who goes by any pronouns. (avvie template source)I'd love the credits of Avengers 4 to just be a compilation of Stan Lee appearances, interlaced with scenes of the people who are permanently killed off, as a memoriam.
It's been 3000 years…Farewell to the one of the last of the oldest, greatest comic book creators.
Excelsior.

One thing I'll miss about Stan Lee's cameos is, if you were watching in a theater, you could use them to pinpoint who in the theater wasn't really a Marvel fan, or was just a casual moviegoer, as his cameos often struck those people with confusion. You can see them looking around, puzzled, and often hear them ask "Why's everyone laughing?" or "Why are people applauding this guy?"
I remember when I saw Black Panther in the theater, and when Lee's cameo happened, someone sitting behind me said something along the lines of, "Okay, who IS this old guy that keeps showing up in these movies? Is he the producer's father or something?"
Speaking of Black Panther, that's the only instance where I was ever able to predict when he was going to show up in a film. I work in a casino, and knowing it's a frequent hangout for senior citizens, I remember thinking to myself, "Oh, they're in a casino now? Yeah, Stan Lee's gonna show up here." Sure enough....
If I had a nickel for every film where Emma Stone falls off a balcony... I'd only have two nickels, but weird that there's two of them.Squidward at the 0:23 mark is me right now:
How close is Homecoming to Venom's numbers?
I wanna know if it's appropriate to say "Crud! We were so close to Venom!" or not.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Globally speaking, Homecoming got a total of $880,166,924 throughout its run.
EDIT: Domestic-wise, it was $334,201,140 and foreign numbers were $545,965,784.

$673M vs. $546M... Eh, close enough.
Crud! We were so close to Venom!
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!So...shall we commence the troubled fetal positions over what this means for MCU!Spidey?
I'm not clear on what that tweet means by "Because of its budget, it's the most successful."
Venom has thus far made $677m. If you deduct the $100m budget, you have $577m.
Homecoming made $880m with a $175m budget, bringing it to $705m.
The highest-grossing Spider-Man film of all time, Spider-Man 3, made $891m on a $258m budget, which would bring it to $633m.
If you want to weep for anything Spider-Man related, weep for the fact that Spider-Man 3 is the box-office king of all Spider-Man movies.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Aw geez, I'm gonna need to crunch the numbers some more.
Homecoming: $705 million - $175 million = $530 million through its whole run.
Venom: $677 million - $100 million = $577 million currently.
Maybe it's a matter of how cheap and fast they can crank out a movie for maximum profit? It's starting to look bad again...
(I hate math...and Sony.)

Sony: Fuck Spider Man. *Robin glare at Feige*
Mileena MadnessDo you think the opposite might happen and Marvel might agree to canonise Venom into the MCU like Sony originally wanted?
I'm still trying to figure out if Sony genuinely believes that Kraven and Morbius movies will do as well as Venom.
This song needs more love.Venom is a bigger success than Homecoming because movie success isn't measured in subtraction, it's measured in multiplication. This is because all of the profits from the film for investors are measured out in percentages of the film's total gross, which increases as the film makes more and more money.
Venom made back 6.8 times its budget.
Homecoming made back 5 times its budget.

Man, haven't visited that site in ages. Is Villanueva still making those MCU clips? I really liked the "Road to Civil War".
