Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

The last 3 pics are posted on Brie Larson’s Instagram, and were made by Jane Ritt.

Is this because people were ragging on Brie in the trailer?
Because I’ll be honest all I really remember at this point is the old lady getting punched in the face.

Well this is coincidental.
This interview was just posted in the Star Wars thread, and while most of it is irrelevant to what we’re talking about, when talking about Marvel Bob Iger does address what we just talked about.
To quote the relevant bits:
I think it only makes sense. I want to be careful here because of what’s been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn’t be two Marvels.
So Deadpool could become an Avenger?
Kevin’s got a lot of ideas. I’m not suggesting that’s one of them. But who knows?

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.@Bocaj I think they just gave Tommy speed powers to tie into the whole Young Avengers theme.
Frankly I'm surprised no ones made any jokes about Tommy actually being Piedro's son.

Incest jokes are beneath me
And let’s stop pretending that Quicksilver is an iconic Avenger, Marvel
Forever liveblogging the AvengersHey guys, I've never posted on here before, but I have a few questions regarding Guardians of the Galaxy and the fate of those characters, and the franchise in general. Sorry about how long this is:
Putting aside whether or not you think there is any chance of James Gunn being rehired (not likely, but still possible IMO, given Alan Horn is retiring at the end of this year), what do you suppose will be the fate of these characters given all the drama surrounding them now:
- Will they even make a Got G 3? They seem to be having a lot of trouble finding a director willing to take it on. It's made them a ton of money and is one of, if not the, most beloved parts of the franchise, but is it tainted now? Would Disney sooner cut their losses and abandon it?
- If we don't see the Guardians after Avengers 4, what will become of them in that movie? Will their arc remain as it was always intended? Will the Guardians (more specifically Drax, since Dave Bautista has caused a lot of the controversy) simply not come back from the snap? Will they kill them off in the final battle? Or will they simply tweak the ending slightly to give them a more final farewell?
- And what of Bautista? Will they end up cutting him out of Avengers 4 entirely if he continues making trouble for them? If they fired him, would there be backlash? Can he even quit without inviting a lot of legal trouble? With him apparently being rejected by the WWE, it might be the wise thing for him to keep his mouth shut and stick with the good job that he has.
Again, sorry for the giant wall of text. It's just this franchise, in particular Guardians, means a lot to me, and I would hate to see it screwed up because of one or two bad decisions. Any thoughts?
I guess, after a night of pillaging and raping, a Viking wants a little something to go with his cocoa.People are talking a lot about the decked old lady because, love it or hate it, the Captain Marvel trailer is pretty generic "Get Hype!" affair otherwise.
That and most of the world doesn't give a shit about the Skrulls so it just looks like Carol has a irrational hatred for old people.
Also, while I frakly don't care eitger way for Ms Denvers herself, the possibility that either Jessica Drew or Monica Ramb- Rambi- Spectrum really gets me hyped for the movie.
Especially the latter, who is barely ever used by comic writers.

They are talking about it because it is the most unusual thing you might see in a Superhero trailer (unless it is something along the line of deadpool).
I wasn't expecting definitive answers. Just thoughts/opinions. And if you didn't want to read my post, why comment on it?
I guess, after a night of pillaging and raping, a Viking wants a little something to go with his cocoa. It wouldn't be if the trailer showed off the Skrulls shapeshifting skills. Pretty glaring oversight, that.
Yeah, you're right, sorry.
I think that is the point. I bet a lot of people have looked up Captain Marvel after seeing the trailer just to figure out wth she would punch a granny.
No worries
I guess, after a night of pillaging and raping, a Viking wants a little something to go with his cocoa.I think that kinda overestimates the commitment of your average audience member, but eh, it's a funny meme anyway.

I think that the trailer is to some extent designed to be kind of mysterious/cryptic. Even Carol's comments about getting snippets of memories, but not being sure if they're real or not, ties into that. As for the questions:
-What is the timeline for these events.
-How does Carol get her powers.
-How does she end up in space.
-What's up with this team that she's on.
-How long is she working with/for the Kree.
-WTH was that machine that they had her restrained in (upside down it would appear).
-How/why does she go back to Earth.
-Is Jude Law playing a hero or villain.
-Etc.
All of these seem to be deliberate imo.

They probably didn’t show the Skrulls transforming because the CG effects for them are still being worked on. 90% of the time, all the FX in a trailer are the only effects that exist for the film as of that date in production.
This isn't really for the average audience member. This is more a tease to generate some buzz. And buzz comes usually from people who are actually interested in stuff like this. It is too early to worry about the average audience.
Look it up, maybe not, but if your non-comic book friends/family come up to you and start asking what the deal is with this new granny-punching superhero Marvel has come up with, you'll have something to talk about, and getting people talking early and often — hey, word of mouth still counts for something.
This of all movies is probably pretty effects-heavy, so I guess I understand why the teaser would be a little light, this early on.
Yeah I'll be honest the Captain Marvel trailer didn't really do much other than set up the time period and some minor establishment of Carol's character. It wasn't the most informative as to what the movie would be about or focus on. I imagine they're holding that off for the later trailers, but I think Thor Ragnarok and Black Panther's first trailers did a better job at establishing the tone and feel of their films.
Quick question,if they (Marvel/Disney) started making Xmen films set in their cinematic universe, what kind of differences would you expect between Fox's version and theirs?
I could them distancing themselves from the other films by not having things the mutant school for the gifted,or a mansion where they all hang out together,Wolverine would still have a major role, but they might go for a cast of different cast of Xmen just to set themselves apart (Gambit?)
New theme music also a boxOkay I love that smile meme.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."The main difference would be that it would actually be X-men movies, not Wolverine and Friends.

I don't think the X-Men or mutants work in the current iteration of the MCU without a lot of retconning or handwaving. Personally I'd keep the universes separate and occasionally do crossovers.
Same. They can have some kind of dimensional portal that's guarded by certain characters to explain it.
> The main difference would be that it would actually be X-men movies, not Wolverine and Friends.
As long as Wolverine is in it's always going to be 'Wolverine and Friends' though leaving him entirely is unthinkable unless they have a very good hand wave ready
New theme music also a box
What can I say, family is important.
They are after all a burden.
