Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

I think there's going to be an Iron Man 3, Antman, Doctor Strange and possibly a Black Panther as well.
Fight smart, not fair.Basically, the MCU contains every character and movie produced by Marvel Studios proper. This means all the announced movies except for the X-films from Fox, Amazing Spider-man from Sony, and Ghost Rider 2 from Universal.
Speaking of which, does anybody know if Universal still holds the rights to Namor? I know they did have the rights in the past, but its been years since even a peep of a movie emerged from them on that angle.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comIf Marvel were to get the rights back for Spider-Man and X-Men, I'm not sure they can be integrated into the MCU that easily. Spidey may work, but suddenly introducing mutants without them having been mentioned before could make for some plot holes.
You guys like Let's Plays? You guys like shameless plugs? Well, come on down! The Ghost Rider rights lie with Sony, just like Spider-Man.
Fox has X-Men and Fantastic Four, having just green-lit a reboot to retain the latter.
Disney is said to want the FF back more than any other non-Spidey property, because y'know, family.
“Love is the eternal law whereby the universe was created and is ruled.” — St. BernardThis video might be a year old but it pretty much says what I think of the MCU.
Where's the info on the FF reboot being greenlit? I haven't seen a single word in almost a year.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.com^^ How about a tldr summary for those of us who don't want to wait through the whole episode?
( Urge for pet peeve rant rising... )
All your safe space are belong to TrumpTo be honest, I'm kinda glad that X-Men, Spidey, and the FF are not in the MCU. Keeps it from being too tonally in-congruent.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.Daredevil is established to be connected to the story of Electra right?
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackYes, but Elektra isn't connected to these movies either.
I've got two guns pointed west and a broken compass.Elektra is functionally a spin-off of Daredevil, yes.
And really, the Fantastic Four *shouldn't* be incongruent with the MCU. I mean, yes, the team represents somewhat different themes than the Avengers, but not incompatible ones. The problem is that the actual Fantastic Four movies were largely ( or entirely ) crap. Hence why I hope the rights revert, so Marvel Studios can do a reboot.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comI want Marvel to get the Fantastic Four rights back just so we can get a cameo from Mr. Fantastic when The Avengers need help with some science thing.
...And so we can get a FF movie that isn't lame, but I digress.
I've got two guns pointed west and a broken compass....am I the only person who liked the FF movies, Torch and Thing especially?
I liked the Thing, but that was it. Any reboot should keep Michael Chiklis in that role. He was perfect.
I've got two guns pointed west and a broken compass.Oh, Johnny and Ben were good, great even. This doesn't change the fact that they absolutely botched both Reed and Doom, and basically abandoned all adventure elements for family sitcom jokes.
Ben and Johnny were good enough I still consider the first movie to be bad, but watchable. The sequel, OTOH, tanked them both, and other things besides. Nothing at all can redeem the sequel.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comI guess I have a lower threshhold, heh. I enjoyed them both a lot, and didn't mind Doom's being screwed up too much. Richards I didn't see much wrong with, either, but then, I mostly read silver-age in terms of stuff with the FF.

With the exception of The Incredible Hulk, which I think was the MCU's weakest film, I think it's doing a great job. Yes, Iron Man 2 did grind down to a halt in order to showcase S.H.I.E.L.D and the Avenger Initiative, but Marvel was able to learn from it and I think Thor and Captain America are really good examples of how well this cinematic universe can work.
That being said, I still think that if Marvel Studios were to ever get their hands on the likes of X-Men and the Fantastic Four, that it will begin to crumble. I think that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has done too good a job at establishing itself. How do you introduce Reed Richards, if Tony Stark is already considered a genius? How do introduce mutants if no one has ever even talked about them?
Antman, Balck Panther and Dr. Strange I could see working and if Marvel Studios ever got their hands on Spider-man, I think it would be great. The other two however I just can't see working out.
Theres sex and death and human grime in monochrome for one thin dime and at least the trains all run on time but they dont go anywhere.I'd imagine that, if the X-Men were introduced, it'd begin with the (public) discovery of the mutant phenomenon.
The FF would get their powers sometime after the Avengers assemble. They and the X-Men would be the first of the second wave of superheroes, essentially.
I've got two guns pointed west and a broken compass.Eh even Spidey would feel a tad out of place. As far as I can see, by the time Marvel reacquires those licenses and can make films on them, the MCU will have come to a conclusion, or at least this incarnation of it.

These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them. But even then you have Xavier and Magneto who are supposed to have been fighting for mutant rights for years. i could understand if mutants have been recently rediscovered, but still.
I think spidey could work. Afterall he is a street level science hero.
Theres sex and death and human grime in monochrome for one thin dime and at least the trains all run on time but they dont go anywhere.Well, that'd be one of the things they'd have to change. Unless they can think of a better way to integrate it than I did, which they probably will.
I've got two guns pointed west and a broken compass. Also, one of the Fantastic Fours major enemies are the Skrulls. How do Aliens fit into the cosmology set down by Thor?
Theres sex and death and human grime in monochrome for one thin dime and at least the trains all run on time but they dont go anywhere. It's been rumored that the Skrulls will be in The Avengers.

Daredevil isn't part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU consists of Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, and (come next summer) Avengers.
EDIT: Ninja'd.
