I'm surprised we haven't had a thread for this yet, considering it *is* one of the more iconic roleplaying games out there.(At least as far as I can see)

I got 6th edition in the Mail a few days ago, and finally got to try it with my friends today. I was the Keeper (I'm always gamemaster in my group, for some reason), and we went through the scenario "The Haunting". For such a simple scenario, and such a simple system, we really had fun. I scared them pretty damn good, and they played well.

So what are your thoughts on it, or your experiences with it?

Considering that most campaigns end with most of the P Cs dying horribly or going insane, I think that was a forlorn hope at best. ;)

[up] Well, this is almost as grim as the Yog-Sothoth cycle...

I suppose this has to do with that most players want to kick ass and chew bubblegum, or just get related to thier characters and see the session as a "Quest for glory and loot". Like the Lovecraft Cycle, most typical people won't get into it, one of my players just couldn't get into it at the end, he is a fan of Epic Wins in Dungeons & Dragons anyway.

Post-moterm sidenotes: If my post lead to the thread being more active, then you shall witness the age of the Yo Kab Cycle!

There's also the question of availability of the material involved. For example, I think I have most of the classic B&W modules and books of both "classic" Call and Delta Green on my hard-drive, but many people won't be able to find these conveniently. Heck, I couldn't even refer to mine conveniently, as they're hidden in an old folder in one of my desktop harddrives.

I will grant you this though: Call campaigns usually lead to loads of fun.

Oh, the glory of being able to read French and conveniently finding Cthulhu books in hardcover!

Befriend every farmer, get every book, do everything you can, go to an asylum or die. Keeper is alive, 10/10 we had a blast.

Once you get into the Cycle, you will have a great time.

We still had good times, except the one I mentioned who wanted to "win".

Welp, this is a late post. But until May 9th, Chaosium are having a 30% off on all ePub & PDFs. Including their collections of Lovecraftian fiction. Enjoy eating your sanity away while saving some money!

Out of curiosity, what are your favorite 'long campaigns?' The only ones I've seen so far are "Masks of Nyarlathotep" and "Beyond the Mountains of Madness." The latter one was kind of 'meh' but I really liked "Masks of Nyarlathotep." I love how world-spanning it was and just how many different aspects Nyarlathotep had.

Anyone else have any long campaigns they like (and would recommend)?

Horror on The Orient Express is a pretty good "'ong campaign", the price may be steep to many. But it is hands down a massive campaign, it has a massive set with so much stuff in it, makes the money worth it. Masks of Nyarlathotep (as you said) and Shadows of Yog-Sothoth are the most accclaimed ones, and are cheaper, so I'd recommend those first.

So anyone notice any interesting changes since Sandy Petersen returned to the helm?
