All Purpose Naruto Fanfiction Thread

Kishimoto made covers long ago that showed AU's. One of them was one where Team 7 was in the Old West. I've been trying to write a fic about that for a while but don't have a lot of experience with Westerns, films or just the time period in general.

Luckily I just rolled upon someone who apparently did. In The Wild Wild West is the Naruto Western AU fic I've been looking for. In-character, based off that image, and with neat western depictions of the characters. The Akatsuki, too, is apparently planning a train robbery.

I've been writing my own version of a Naruto fanfic that I would like to share with anyone interested.

The premise is a Naruto riff on Sliders. Sliders was an old TV show about a group of people who traveled to different worlds and were stuck on a journey to find their original one. The story I'm basing this off of was called Echoes, which has its own trope page, by an author named Kagaseo. To spoil the premise of this story Naruto discovers the ability to travel between worlds when an accident happens during the fight with Orochimaru. This in itself is an AU where Sai betrayed Team 7 for real. In these first few chapters, Naruto takes on a new identity in the alternate reality and begins to navigate his strange new surroundings, unaware that he is being watched not just by Konoha's ANBU, but by a figure with sinister intentions. The ultimate goal of this fanfic is to be an adventure-based, slightly darker version of Road To Ninja where we see Naruto thrust into an uncomfortable whirlwind of personal discovery, false leads, and intrigue. I hope you get a thrill out of it the same way I have.

There were things I liked and disliked about this fic and, being a fan of Sliders I decided to make my own. I'm very much an Affectionate Parody person rather than a Fix Fic person so don't expect to see any characters getting bashed hard, taking pot shots at the source material. I like everybody to be a little badass in their own way. ^note In the first 2 chapters we're introduced to a younger, female version of Naruto. I tried hard to capture her personality as being almost 1:1 with Naruto from the first chapter/episode, but with the variation that she has someone other than Iruka to idolize. Then there is Orochimaru, an arrogant, vile man. Kakashi, a dutiful, ruthless ninja. You see where I'm going with this. I wanted everyone to be as in-character as possible except for where For Want Of A Nail is concerned. ^{note 2}  Continuing that, we see in Chapter 3 a universe where Hinata grew up in the Branch family instead of the Main Family. I was fascinated by the Awakened Hinata from the Naruto video games and used this version of her to capture that - she'd cold, focused, and nihilistic to everyone, even Naruto to an extent, but the attraction she has is still there in a small way. I think I might have made her a little stereotypically girly (Naruto compliments her so she's nice to him) but I wanted her to be noticeably different in this universe while still feeling similar (having a crush on Naruto).

• If you read this chapter to completion then I'll tease what's currently happening in Ch 4 its the beginning of a fight between Naruto, Naruko, and the evil!Naruto who has fused his consciousness with that of Kurama. Initially I was going to have the fight be interrupted, but I started writing Naruto being a bit of a badass and decided it would be fun to write out an extended battle. I'm writing to capture Kurama as being this grotesque, fleshy abomination that we saw when Naruto fought Orochimaru in Part 2. Really enjoyed that depiction of Jinchuriki power..
