Yeah, they use Soros as a bogeyman not because he's a hedge fund manager. It's because he's Jewish.
It's the same as any other "evil banker" conspiracy theory. It's all antisemitic dogwhistling.
I mean, fuck, the GOP is the party more likely to enable banking bullshit via deregulation. Note that it was the Trump administration that relaxed regulations for SV bank back in 2018 after the latter lobbied for it. Y'know, the same bank that collapsed not too long ago.

Since this is a very serious topic, I've heard the bad things related to Soros about his Hedgefund management and accusations of causing financial crises in developing nations.
But I assume the alt-right are just jealous because it's not the "right" person doing that awful shit. This is the sort of thing they would be venerating since they are all about unregulated capitalism. That he's a Jew makes him a very convenient target, and that's a pretty insidious dogwhistle since you can't tell if it's legit criticism against the guy or scapegoating.
Still, I'll do my own research on this guy.

I don't know about bankrupting nations. That sounds highly implausible and like one of the conspiracy theories. I don't see how he'd do it either, considering his job.
obviously he's obscenely rich so he's clearly doing something wrong (he's a hedge fund manager I think), but overall he's some kind of center-left liberal by his donations and organizations. But he's a convenient target because...
A. he doesn't support conservative organizations and B. He's Jewish so they can say "but leftist things, it's a conspiracy by the jews", which is a perennially popular conspiracy theory.
About the sketchiest thing he's done is get an insider trading conviction, which every rich person does. Martha Stewart has an insider trading conviction. Well, that and the Prime Minister of Malaysia blamed him for the 1997 financial crisis with no corroborating evidence (the prime minster had a history of talking about jewish conspiracies so this was probably related).
Paul Krugman doesn't like him, but Paul Krugman doesn't seem to like anyone who isn't his very specific version of Liberal, so that doesn't mean anything.

Back in highschool, I did some research on the Asian financial crisis, and a lot of the articles I found blamed him. EX:

And yeah, I remember Malaysia's prime minister blaming him for the crisis. And I didn't think much of it since he IS a hedge fund manager.
Besides, donations to the left don't mean much. You got a certain Pharma bro and a certain FTX CEO for example who also donated to the left and were terrible.
EDIT: The more I see, the more I'm starting to wonder if this is a "broken clock is right twice a day scenario."

I'll look it up. Since the argument dogwhistle Desantis is using is " Oh the prosecutor for Trump is Soros funded. " as if that's some kind of gotcha.

No connection or interactions really, Soros is a common Bugbear for the Republicans. He's been the target of everyone from the comparatively mainstream fox news to the usual conspiracy suspects of Breitbart and the likes pretty much ever since he donated money to John Kerry's campaign in 2004, and probably before then.

Yeah while people who make donations to Liberal causes and parties aren't automatically the best people like Sam Bankman-Fried who was a democratic party donor, it's increasingly clear to me the Alt-right is hating Soros for scapegoating reasons to prop up Trump.
