There's an increasing number of examples on this page that just link to something or another and say the name of a thing or even just "this", especially as you get further and further down the page. As there's less and less descriptions as to why these things fit this mold, it begins to turn dumpy.

I think part of the problem is that people are confusing this trope with What Were They Selling Again?. I know I have done it once or twice, since using too much of the former can lead to a lot of the latter.

I thought I'd just remove lazy examples. with an edit note why I did, but then realized that might be a bit rash and could cause me to lose edit, so I figured I'd bring it here to let the hivemind discuss the matter.

And move them to the discussion page.

I've a great desire to remove Baroque art and its appended entries in the Other section. As the trope is meant to be about the newly formed trend to over design, surely a 16th-18th century art movement and and an early 20th century one hardly are this trope.

Although as they appear to influence the trend, perhaps it would be better if these few entries were reworded to say these movements influenced this current trend, instead of the current implication that they are part of it.

Bumping as it exists. The trope is badly defined anyway, the title is terrible for being wholly negative (and being real snarky about it too) and the Laconic description of "Artsy and confusing"... isn't this then Dada Ad but without the Ad part? The examples are much worse, given the fairly ill-defined excuse for a trope this is you end up with examples which aren't confusing or "artsy" and more just designs that people thought to be either too elaborate for them or just design they plain don't like.

I'm not sure what should be done with this but right now it doesn't count for much more than a place to complain about design you don't like and that title... at least change that title, if "You Fail X Forever" can't survive, neither should this.

There's currently a YKTTW under discussion about "that certain 60s spy/caper movie credits style" as pioneered by Saul Bass. All the elements postulated there are basically already included in the examples listed at Design Student's Orgasm: crisp colors, monochromatic backgrounds, fractal/floral explosions, silhouettes of people (typically dancing women), grid patterns building up and disappearing etc. etc.

I'd be in favor of developing the YKTTW as a replacement for the ill-defined DSO and consider modern instances of the trope (e. g. the famous iPod commercials) as homages and based on the older trope.

I agree, this trope is purely negative in its approach from the title down and the YKTTW has a much more positive tone which I'd prefer. Go forth and develop that other trope, see if this one can't be cut in some way otherwise.
