Looks like Mask of Power isn't the only major Fan Game recreating the 2001 saga:

I'm in a Discord group with a guy that's worked with one of the lead devs before- the one that seems to be doing all the talking- and he's had some bad experiences with the guy. That, combined witht he fact that he's crowdsourcing dev applications from Discord and how bleh the gameplay looks right now, has me concerned that we might end up with a BIONICLE-themed Hunt Down the Freeman.

If that looks "bleh" to you, I'd be interested to see what "good" looks like to you. I thought that trailer looked awesome, though I am aware that a game can have the best trailer in the world and still end up crap.

As we're all chatting about Bionicle again I'm gonna post here my favorite Bionicle fan short I've viewed this year.

First of all, in terms of combat, the game's going for a Dark Souls-inspired playstyle, but the camera's zoomed in a little too far for proper situational awareness, the animations seem a little janky due to being used with such a blocky model, the combat effects are so over-the-top that it's hard to see what you're actually doing or the enemies you're fighting, and in general everything looks like a giant mess of visual noise, which is not something you want in a gameplay style that encourages knowing exactly what you and your enemies are doing at all times and reacting accordingly. (Dark Souls is aesthetically a weird choice for Bionicle in the first place, but it's relatively simple to implement on a base level and 2001 had a surprising amount of brawls anyways, so I'm trying not to grumble about it.)

Other problems: Kanohi implementation seems kinda bland (I'm looking at you, fire stream), the terrain is weirdly bland (the iconic Ta-Koro lava moat is gone, for one thing), the dialogue needs more polish (right now it's pretty generic aside from the stuff copypasted from the MNOLG), and- this one's admittedly really nitpicky- discs seem like a really weird choice for modding characters. This game is very much a work in progress, and it'll need a lot of polish before I become willing to feel confident about it.

Anyway, since I already saw it, LEGO is holding a vote for which theme to commemorate with a single set to celebrate their 90th anniversary, and BIONICLE G1 is one of the options.

Alright, time to revive Bionicle (or Rock Raiders).

I don’t think Rock Raiders was one of the options. But then, when I got the notification, I basically checked to see if BIONICLE was an option and ignored everything else.

Somewhat unrelated but I’m surprised to find out what originally killed Bionicle was apparently Lego going cheap for the Glatorian figures leading to fragile figures that easily break.

I always heard it was the Continuity Lockout.
