What about "Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get A Clue!"?
The live action films gave us Flanderized versions of the characters, and those characterizations persist in the minds of some people, some of whom, unfortunately, are screenwriters.
That one struck me as the worst kind of vehicle for any franchise—one that really has nothing to do with the franchise in question, but makes use of the name to get attention. That said, it wasn't a terrible cartoon—it just wasn't really a Scooby-Doo cartoon. You could plug nearly any two characters into that scenario and it would have been much the same show.

Velma was never in any position to harm the Scooby brand much going forward for several reasons.
The biggest one is Scooby Doo is a big franchise. Sometimes big franchises churn out bad installments. It's not the end of the world. Scooby isn't like some burgeoning, unproven franchise that is hinging on the success of every single thing attached to it to stay alive. There's always, always going to be another Scooby Doo series.
Plus it only came out like a month after Trick or Treat Scooby Doo and eryone freaking loved that from what I remember.
But a bit less importantly, it's also an extreme spinoff that advertised itself as being largely different and separate from the rest of the franchise, and so basically everyone went on to perceive it as its own separate thing even before it came out. It's so distinct that basically nobody involved - neither on the development side nor the fanbase side - associates it with the main franchise anyway.
(So... basically the same boat Scooby and Shaggy Get A Clue put itself in)

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Steven Ray Byrd has just tweeted that he has seen the opening scene of Coyote vs. Acme.
He is one lucky bastard.
I feel like Mindy Kaling had only seen the live action film/s based on how she described the classic series of having Fred always take the credit for Velma's mystery solving skills. The only versions of Fred who did that are the live action movies and one single episode of Pup Named Scooby Doo where he wanted to impress his uncle and became a glory hog (he took credit for Scooby's clue finding abilities too) and everyone called him out on it and he never acted that way again. Fred is usually a lovable trap making himbo and I want that Fred back.

see my completed Tangled (Varian) fanfic collection! https://archiveofourown.org/works/24467056/chapters/59049532I wonder if Velma will be considered a Star-Derailing Role for Kaling? Because I think that show would more than likely taint her career as an actress.
Not entirely true. Remember the Cartoon Network original live-action films, and the unrelated spin-off film Daphne & Velma was released in 2018. If anything, they're more sporadic about creating live-action adaptations in general (just not theatrical).
They actually DID TRY live action again, and not only it was successful it was one of Cartoon Netwrork's highest rated telecasts . But like it was said NO single take on Scooby has the staying power to kill or redefine the franchise entirely. And I am glad about that.

Only since Mystery Inc, and there he was close to being a mad genius/idiot savant. The most common characterization of him since has kept the trap obsession and made him generally goofier than previous characterizations—but then, everyone has taken a level in goofiness since Mystery Inc.
I know its probably not the best incarnation of the franchise but Be Cool Scooby Doo was ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS.

I know humor is kind of expected with Scooby Doo, thus the scarier and more serious takes are preferred, but if one series got humor right it was Be Cool.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.I think it started a bit earlier than that. Fred as a himbo type started with the live action films - maybe even Pup Named Scooby, and him particularly obsessed with traps started with What's New.
Abracadabra Doo also focuses really heavy on "Fred the trap-loving goofball", and it and Mystery Inc were being made at the same time (they came out within a month of each other).

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. This guy REALLY seems like a cartoon villain.
Context: WBD CEO David Zaslav’s pay increased by 26.5% last year to nearly US$50 million (THR)
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here. That's supposed to save the company money how?
If I had a nickel for every film where Emma Stone falls off a balcony... I'd only have two nickels, but weird that there's two of them. That was the goal?
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here. And executives wonder why people hate them.
Wake me up at your own risk.Executives: Hmm, what's that? Can't hear you because we're too busy loving our money!
But seriously, this is capital B bullsh*t. This guy was supposed to be bringing the debt down, but he's hemorrhaging money and losing it worse.
And he gets a chunky increase in his paycheck? ...That works out how, exactly?
Guys like him are just parasites, they just make the business about as stable as a house of cards and they claim to be geniuses deserving an eight digit salary.
Wake me up at your own risk.I wonder which shows Zaslav will sacrifice/write-off to the tax gods to keep his pay increase.
Are there any left at this point?
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here. There are several DC movies ahead, maybe he'll sacrifice them. Multiversus too.
Maybe he'll try to close down Cartoon Network Studios to save money.
Wonder why someone hasn't tried a #Save Warner Bros campaign like how Roy E Disney did with the Save Disney campaigns in 1984 and 2003 that got Disney better leadership?
Not to mention that WBD lost 3 million last year. Just one decision after another, it is always an eye roller. This has been going on since COVID.
Project Popcorn, retiring Pepé Le Pew, the Zack Snyder Justice League debacle, the Space Jam PR nightmare all under the previous AT & T regime. Enter WBD. Zero marketing for animation, and worst of all, the write downs and write offs of projects and that became the new standard for Hollywood accounting (Disney, Netflix and Paramount are doing this too). The writers and actors strikes should really teach the studios that things need to change.

Losing pepe was not a bad thing. He has only two jokes: French men smell bad and french men are horny and won't take no for an answer. These are scummy unfunny traits. He is a hypocritical sex offender and was never funny.

Yes, the animated stuff.
Disgusted, but not surprised
