Yeah, but it's such a single-point-of-failure compared to everything else in the mode.

Maybe if three players in a room could forcibly teleport the fourth to them or something... tongue

Cleared 10-floor Scarescraper, which was fun. Actually had a pretty good team, with no button-ignorers for once.

Did encounter a terrible glitch though. Another player and I entered a secret room and opened the chest, and the following sequence of events happened:

  • Nothing came out of the chest.
  • The other player began falling diagonally through the floor forever, teleporting back whenever they went too far out-of-bounds and then falling again, crying for help the whole time.
  • I was unable to exit the room, the door wouldn't work.

Thankfully the other two players managed to finish just in time, but it was really frustrating being stuck there.

This fanfic made me cry and gave me tons of hope so I had to share. it's based on the Bench Friends Power Moon quest from Odyssey.

(And if you're in the mood for scares with happy endings, this TTYD-based fic by the same author is excellent!)

Man, the money-gathering floors are a lot tougher than anticipated. Even if I have a team competent enough not to be foiled by    the floor button   , I often lose at them.

So many bosses. It's been awhile since I played Dark Moon, but this definitely feels more exploration/puzzle/boss-focused than normal ghost hunting. Not sure if I like that or not.

Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.

The boss fights are definitely fun, at least, compared to Dark Moon's slogs. They keep getting more creative and involved as you go. My favorites so far are Amadeus Wolfgeist and Nikki/Lindsey/Ginny. Also, somehow I knew Clem was gonna be named Clem even before I checked his name in the gallery. He just looks like a Clem.

Regular ghost combat is definitely more scarce in this game's main story in favor of puzzles, setpieces, and exploration, but if you want some good old-fashioned slobberknockers with lots of generic ghosts, the Scarescraper has you covered.

Does it bug anyone else the globes in Luigi's Mansion 3 show the real world continents and countries, and not the ones from Super Mario Odyssey? Considering all the attention to detail in the game, that's a weird omission.

Was the 1st Luigi's Mansion not mainly exploration and boss fighting over just fighting ghosts?

What even?

You don't "hunt" anything in any of the games besides Boos.

Apparently none of the portrait ghosts besides Chauncey count as bosses?

And I beat Luigi's Mansion 3. I still think First Installment Wins, but it's better than Dark Moon.

Obviously, Nintendo is bringing back the "Mushroom Kingdom is an alternate universe and the Mario bros are from Boston" thing.

I missed the part where that's my problem.

[up][up][up] This always bothered me. Has there ever been any consensus on whether Mario and Luigi are from Brooklyn, Yoshi's Island or whatever?

I feel like the Brooklyn thing was a western idea to appeal to westerners while the Mushroom Kingdom was a japanese idea just cause Widget Series.

[up] As far as I can tell it's both. Brooklyn is primarily seen as a Western thing (the cartoons, movie, etc.) but was mentioned for Charles Martinet's Mario 64 audition in Japan, and Yoshi's Island showed how they were born in the Mushroom Kingdom. A lot of people think Odyssey's New Donk was meant to bridge the gap and see them as coming from there.

My personal headcanon is that they were born like in Yoshi's Island but had to be raised in Brooklyn cause Bowser.

[up][up]Neither of those ideas make sense.

They were from Brooklyn and up until Mario 64 that was always the case.

I'm pretty sure the Bros. being from Brooklyn was an invention of Nintendo of America, feeling the need to explain where they came from, because the cartoon and the movie and all the books and other merchandise all reiterated the plumbers from Brooklyn origin story. Conversely, Japan never gave an origin until Yoshi's Island. However, starting in Mario 64, Mario had this super thick Italian accent, and that only makes sense if someone in his family is from Italy.

You know how in Donkey Kong Country, Cranky is apparently the guy from the original Donkey Kong arcade? That made me wonder if Jumpman was actually Mario, or a different guy. Then I got to thinking, what if Jumpman was Mario and Luigi's dad, and he's the one from Brooklyn. Course, then you still have explain who the girl is, because it can't be Pauline in this scenario.

I read a fan comic that said Mario from Donkey Kong Jr. was actually Wario.

[up] An old guidebook had Pauline and Lady be distinct characters.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Donkey Kong Jr. reference where Donkey Kong Jr./Diddy Kong faces off against Wario and Waluigi to save Donkey/Cranky Kong.

[up][up][up]They didn't need to explain where they came from.

But even if not from Brooklyn specifically, he was considered Italian-American at least since Mario Bros. and that game is set in the sewers of New York.

"I noticed that Mario speaks with an Italian accent in this game.

Miyamoto: There’s no particularly detailed background or anything, but yeah, it’s a given that Mario is an Italian-American from Brooklyn, New York."
