She placed her palm against the coffee table, "What causing this? It's probably not the storm, since this hasn't happened before. And I hadn't brought anything ancient or mysterous here for a long time."
"And I hadn't even thought them up." Mary thought. Fantasy wasn't her thing. The stories on her computer was of the children realistic fiction kind.
Polly was about to answer the Magician when Mary started to talk.
"Listen, I know that we are imposing on your home and everything," Polly began. "But does it matter how we came here or not? And what does driving have to do with it."

"Yeah, I'm not so much concerned with the how," Kiora added. I'm more interested in why."

"Usually the only way to reach the carnival is to drive across a bridge that connects the valley we are in to the rest of the world," Mary explained, standing straight up, "However, it floods out during a storm like this, you every once and awhile a person who was just driving through would stay here for a few hours before the road becomes drivable again."
She put her pointer finger up, "But the important thing is why. Why my carnival? What is special about it? That what we have to find out."
Elsewhere, a musclebound teenager just under 6-feet tall is being dragged to and fro by a smaller girl. He is not amused.

"I... actually... I've been here for weeks..." said Rainer. Well, he thought it had been weeks. It could have been longer, or shorter. But he thought it was weeks.

"Well, I hadn't seen you around when inspecting the carnival earlier," Mary said, "...before all of you arrived." she walked closer to Rainer and asked in a slightly softer voice, "Are you sure you are okay? I saw you with those batteries."

"I — I should have asked! I'm sorry," he said, "I should have asked —" he cowered as she came closer. You never want to give the enemy an inch, they'll take a mile. Underneath his cloak he was reaching for his knife.
I draw stuff.
"Hmm...I suppose it called for our presence, either way, we are just a bunch of fictional characters who were put here. But I'll dismiss the latter as irrelevant for the given situation," he said. "'Why' and 'how'. Indeed...an interesting question, also, this place seems to be alive. Not the most welcoming amusement park, though not worse than Cirque De Cleau's killing humor..."
The magician supported his head with his hand. He idly watched the kid wearing his robe, he seemed to be starving. "Ozmond" didn't know what kind of food the kid ate, but if the batteries were of any indication...
"Say kid, how about a deal?" said the magician. He took his hat off and picked a pair of batteries from it, he extended his hand to Reiner. "You return my cloak and I'll give you this, a fabulous offer, isn't it? Quid pro quo."

Kiora eyed the magician. She was more used to combat magic; this conjuring was surprising, to say the least.
Bored, she popped open her thigh holster and counted her kunai. Damn, she thought as she fondled the two remaining knives. Knew I should have stocked up the last time I had the chance. She pulled her supply pouch off of her hip and dug through it, sliding half a dozen shuriken into her thigh holster in case of an emergency. She carefully re-packed everything, making sure her explosive tags were on top and easy to reach.

Polly laughed the Magician. "I know that there has been some crazy things happening today, but calling us all a bunch of fictional characters? Come on. That's silly."
She turned her head towards the battery person and cocked her head. "Weeks, huh?" Polly said softly. "Are you okay? Did you notice anything odd going on here?"
Mary was surprised that the stage magician was purposing the idea that they were all fictional creations. She thought of it, but she refused to reveal it. More than one might've attacked her for saying such a thing, which was understandable. Suggesting that someone was fictional is saying that they aren't really real.

"Well, I knew that," Kiora said, straightening herself. "Being fictional doesn't change our situation. Now, being the author, that would change things, no?"

"Who knows? Can you guarantee this is reality, miss?" he answered to Polly. "I'm sure our authors wouldn't want us dead, maybe make us suffer, but definitely not kill us. Oh, and we must survive. Can't forget that one." He poked the kid. "Do you want it or not?"
He was eying Reiner and was in doubt, he didn't know whether he'd accept his offer or not. "It's alkaline," he added to make it sound more appetizing.
"I already ate," said Rainer. "And... I haven't seen anything. I got here. I don't know how. I was just here."
He didn't like all this talk of things like authors. That was just ridiculous.

"It's real to us, isn't it?" Kiora said, pacing a bit. She glanced at the girl the magician had spoken to. "I agree, I don't think anyone wants us to die, but I also don't know if they'd go too far out of their way to prevent it if the situation came up."

"Well, I am an author," Mary said, clasping her hands, "Although I hadn't really killed off any of my characters, because I mostly write short children stories for magazies, I would kill off a character for drama. So...be careful."
OOC: Wow, I don't think any other characters had reach that conclusion yet.
"If I had a nickel for everytime my team and I have been close to dying," Polly responded. She glanced up at Kiora, and then Mary. "But, if we aren't real, what does this say about the people that put us here, created us? Why would they want to see us suffer?"

But then something clicked inside her. If they were characters from stories, what kept her from being one? That would mean that her whole life had been written by an author.
But as long as life kept going on, and aliens didn't try to invade Earth, she would just have to countinue on. She needed some way to conform or disprove the theory.

The kid told him he had already eaten, the magician would have to come up with something else. He sighed and said to everyone in the room, "Well, I think it's already been decided that whether we are real or not is something irrelevant. Now, what should we do next? Explore this hostile carnival of doom? Wait for the rain to stop? You decide miss, after all you are our host." He threw a glance to Mary.

"To test us?" Kiora asked. "Personally, I don't care. I just wanna get stronger. This is just a stepping stone for me. I don't ever want to watch one of my friends die again."

"Well, that must mean I'm the leader." Mary took a step back towards the wall. She glanced at the kitchen window. Although the rain was receding slightly, it was still pouring down. Also, she could see flashes of lightning, "Let's look around this carnival. I bet that something that wasn't here before you all came might be here, and that would be the key to solving this mystery."
Hmm...a mystery novel?

He must be saying that just to screw with people. Exactly like the kind of thing Viktor might say in the middle of a swordfight just to irritate his opponent. It was fun watching that guy blackmail, but Cyrus couldn't get past the fact that Viktor was... his... foster father.
He looked over at Mary. "You done yet? I need to go finish my job, wonder how many ghosts were devoured while I was waiting for you."

"A magical girl I presume? It's been quite a while since I last saw one, do you have a device I may be able to talk to? Or are you paired with a furred assistant? Perhaps we may need some assistance from other planes if we ever want to leave this place." He took yet another sip. "Normally I'd be able to leave this place at will, but something is interfering with my disappearances tricks, I can't even move from one spot to another without the burden of walking." He was lying, he didn't have the ability to move at will (at least, not anymore) , he was just a doorkeeper inside someone's else soul. Differently from his master, he couldn't pass through the doors to different worlds.
