[up][up] I couldn't see this cartoon (or Gravity Falls, another show he did fanwork for...) working as an anime (not without some serious tweaking...), but it does look awesome. SO does his fanwork on Gravity Falls.

God, the Banana family just keep turning out to be weirder and weirder. Oh and that's two shows doing episodes about seeing the future in the same night.

Also, oh God, that last painting has the same rejected house design from the Void! It's coming back.

There's also the music stinger at the ending which is the same as the music snippet for "The Void"'s title car-EDIT: Wait no scratch that I remembered it wrong.

Okay, actually while the music snippets for the ending of "The Oracle" and the title card "The Void" are different, they both end in the same *zip* sound, like they're being abruptly stopped

So which seems more likely a reason for... whatever is happening there: taking stuff out of the void upset the universe or the whole of Elmore being considered a "bad idea" in a form of Leaning on the Fourth Wall (because they started writing season three before the next two season were greenlight).

I hope, between this episode and the season finale (which may or may not be two parts) we get an ominous line from Banana Joe to the effect of "My mom suddenly stopped painting."

Back to the episode in general, I found most of it to just be cringe-worthy and pointless. It ended in exactly the way I was hoping it wouldn't from the second I read a synopsis—the terrible thing Gumball was trying to prevent happened anyway, then nothing comes of it. We don't even find out what happened with the mob or the cops.

[up][up] I didn't really feel that way; I already expected the event from happening anyway.

What got me was Gumball eventually doing it of (what he presumes to be) his own free will.

I feel this is as good time to point out something: you may have missed it, but right as Darwin and Gumball changed voice actors in "The Kids", there was this weird flicker and the sound warping. If you pause while this is happening, you'd notice that everything changes a couple times, but throughout it all their outlines are filled with a certain pattern.

The pattern looks like generic static at first glance, but it's actually quite unique. I haven't been able to find anything else like it. Except elsewhere in the show. Specifically, in the void and the background of Banana Barbara's picture.

So, right now, I'm gonna take a few wild guesses at some stuff that might make a reappearance in the season finale, and feel free to take your own guesses:

  • Darwin and Gumball's first voice actors
  • Zach
  • Previous character designs, both rejected and used in-show

Wouldn't mind seeing Season 1 design Gumball again. That design just seemed more Anime Esque to me in some sense.

Watched tonight's new ep "The safety", and I honestly found the plot to be ultimately forced and contrived. Darwin and Gumball are always doing stupid unsafe things that could have killed them, why would this video give Darwin a change of heart? Stupid writers.

If Granny Jojo can turn her grandkids into becoming like Richard by scaring them into not learning their mistakes, then a poorly produced video that ended ominously which horrified everyone watching it can sway him into having the safety obsessiveness before escalating it... just like many times in the past. I mean, have you watched the video?

One thing's for sure about The Safety. Those reaction faces in response to the horrid safety cartoon were HILARIOUS.

I get the feeling the thing with the arrow was written with an actual arrow, not a suction cup. As is, it makes no sense, and not even in a funny way.

There were a few funny parts (Gumball following Tobias and "the roast"), but it was mostly tiresome and predictable. Usually the worst episodes are the ones which consist mostly of Gumball (and/or Darwin) repeatedly failing to achieve the same goal an arbitrary number of time without any defined act shift (like "The Secret" or "The Procrastinators"). I'm worried next week's episode (which is about Darwin and Gumball not being able to see a movie for a week, and trying to avoid spoilers in the meantime) is going to be the same.

I remember I went through that for months once over a super popular video game.

The funniest parts imo were definitely Gumball Jump Scare-ing Darwin and Anais.

I could have done fine without him making that phone call to Penny that didn't help much to make his ordeal any less painful. IDK, just seeing their new relationship kinda makes me sick, still. But this isn't the episode to complain about that. Also, is anyone else wondering when we'll see Darwin's biological parents now that he brought it up?

[up]Real sad you feel that way about Gumball X Penny - for me, it's the only natural relationship between 2 preteens that I actually have respect and admiration for right now. Only because it's executed like you'd expect that kind of relationship to go with kids their age. Awkward, but believable.

when we'll see Darwin's biological parents now that he brought it up?

They're almost certainly dead: Darwin said that treasure chest with the bubbles was something they left for him. And, while goldfish can live longer than most people think, them still being alive more than ten years after Darwin was born is unlikely. And this technically isn't the first time Darwin mentioned them: During "The Burden", Darwin's conversation with the lump of hair had him saying the line "You're not one of my dads!"

I like the implication in the phone call scene that Gumball's shenanigans have already gotten him on some sort of watchlist.
