Yeah, how come we don't see Charmy or Espio?
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!The reason we don't see them is because they're detectives.
Tracking down your crimes.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).I definitely want them on my side.
The official Japanese Sonic Twitter changed its handle from "@Sonic20th" to "@SonicOfficialJP".

That's... good?
Sincerity Mode we really are in a drought for Sonic news.

Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Yeah, I concede that it's not really that major. That's why I kept myself from posting about it earlier this morning since they were hyping it a bit.
Then again, @Sonic20th was in light of Sonic's 20th birthday and we are way past that point. Someone on Twitter said they should've gone with @Sonic30th, but I'm honestly fine with @SonicOfficialJP. Beats having to change the handle every 10 years.
But yeah, this has got to be the biggest drought of Sonic news barring the comics and merchandise. Feels like eternity…
Speaking of merch, we got a batch of it dedicated to Tangle and Whisper at the SEGA shop if anyone's got money to burn! (Seriously, depending how this works out, we could see more merch featuring them.)

Well, at least E3 is coming up.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. The second movie's done filming now, right? We could be seeing a teaser or something soon.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI was talking with another person, and they said it best. If you look at Sonic as a multimedia franchise, the drought isn't really as pronounced.
I think fans are just hyperfocused on the video games to the exclusion of everything else.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.By all accounts, the videos games, despite being the source material, seems to be the weakest aspect of the franchise then.
That's true for Pokemon too for the record :V
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Don't forget Digimon!
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.When you say Digimon, do you mean the v-pets or the more conventional games? Because the conventional games are the spin-offs in that case. The v-pets are the source material and, within that niche, have had fairly consistent quality.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireAnd doesn't appear to want to end. They gave Ash his consolation prize, and the show is still around.
Oh well.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.I find that ironic, because while you're right generally, I've also talked with plenty of people who like Sonic's world and setting and are upset at things have been handled lately and that's why they want a new game to "fix" everything.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.\\
So what, Espio is the Cyclone and Charmy is the Joker? Hehe, Sonic characters as Kamen Riders. https://www.reddit.com/r/KamenRider/comments/kny1lu/sonic_characters_as_kamen_riders/
- Why does everyone make Pokemon games sound like these unplayable, soulless messes of games?
- Also, Diamond and Pearl, parts of BW, the entire XY saga, Sun and Moon's first and final quarter, even Journeys is doing some pretty good stuff rn.
So according to Ian Flynn, he has confirmed that Sega have straight up dictated that Shadow's motivations are no longer for the sake of his memory to Maria, but because he's a Blood Knight who wants to fight strong opponents and nothing more.
So essentially, he's only interested in fighting for the sake of fighting with no greater meaning.
And at that point, Flynn just kind of threw his hands up and decided to take a break from writing him, because he can only rationalize these decisions so much. He's pretty much admitting that it makes no sense whatsoever, but he's powerless to do anything about it.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.God dammit Sega!
One Strip! One Strip!Okay, there has to be a reason Sega is doing this. You can't have Shadow just want to fight strong opponents for the sake of it. He's just willing to use force to fight stronger opponents who are a threat to humanity. Why just drop Maria as a motivation like that?
I think I know why. Sega doesn't want Shadow's personality tied to a specific plot point, they want people who play these games to look at him and take him at face value without having to dig deep to know who they are.
Shadow's entire personality and motivation only makes sense if you've played Sonic Adventure 2 through his game. Games that are over 10 years old at this point. Newer and younger fans are not going to understand or know that unless they do their own research.
So Sega, in their infinite knowledge decide they'll just retcon that and just make Shadow a generic Evil Counterpart so everyone will know who he is without having to play older games. Except now they've removed literally everything that made the character interesting and turned him into something way more boring and generic.
So he's just...there to fight strong people and occasionally be an obstacle to Sonic. Riveting character work.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I have several guesses. All of which are related to their tendency to phase out any human that isn't Eggman that started with the "Two worlds" bit.
They do realize they've made them selves out to be hypocritical then since Shadow has lately always sided with the heroes. New direction or not, since 2006, he's never pulled a Face–Heel Turn. Hell, even in Boom, he was more neutral and was willing to stop Lyric. Man Sega is weird.
Fans: "Shadow the Hedgehog is one of the most popular characters in the franchise because of his deep emotional backstory, relationship with Maria, and character development."
SEGA: "Shadow the Hedgehog is one of the most popular characters in the franchise. Also, let's ditch all of that human stuff people hated, and never reference it again."
I wished Sega loved the other Chaotix members too.
