The Voice: Chalk another victory up to the Signal Jammers, 'cause a bird flying south for the winter just told me they saw Interpol ships limping out of the Arctic with their little curly tails between their legs. Operation Saintfall scrubbed out against the Signal Jammers and their special guest stars from another timeline, the once and future J-Team heroes! That ain't to say Kringle didn't do his part, you ever draw the ire of the Yule Lads and the Yule Cat you'd know how tussle they can get. So now it's time to celebrate but of course the Nightfall ain't over, because of course we Jammers are polite and noone appreciates leaving decorations up that long. Same goes for propaganda, so while you're out celebrating make sure to tear down a poster for me.

Spacequest - Day 2

-Pent was actually having fun in the simulator when the klaxon went off. And then the dread returned because now there was legitimate danger. However, the presence of a friend in his mind and at his side did help recover his mood as he jumped into the gunnery control seat-

Yes! I was thinking that myself. Picked out a suitable Celestial Armament name for it and everything. Keeping it a secret until I actually get to use it though.

-He closed his eyes for a moment as he clicked off the safeties, just as he had to in sim-

Jubilife Arena

-This concert was sudden, a free-for-all had occurred at the front box office for die-hard fans to get tickets. Something this short-notice was unexpected, usually the performances were scheduled and ticketed months in advance and TV crews had cottoned onto the discrepancy and realized what it meant. The stage was set up as best it could on short notice, though it lacked for some of the more elaborate confectionery-motif pieces. Slowly the performers filed out on-stage and perhaps most surprisingly it was all of the performers, all 20 of them. In the dark of the stage the girl in the most elaborate candy-colored dress stepped forward and raised a glinting golden ticket above her head-

-The arena bursts out in noise as the lights come on and the music rushes in and the carefully choreographed dance gets underway. The crowd went wild, their fanaticism at a fever peak. Hard Candy had been chosen-

A Media Montage

Hard Candy is all smiles and sweetness on the surface. With a young and faithful fanbase in [Japan], every concert is a packed arena where you can barely hear the music over the cheering throng.

Chandra Hather, post-concert: We're just so happy to be invited by Lady Meloetta to her competition. We'll try our best okay? We'll hold nothing back!

Hard Candy is the third and most successful attempt of Mrs Matashi to put together an idol group that can take the world by storm. Most concerts and music videos use a rotating cast from the full twenty-person roster however Chandra Hather usually ends up top billing vocal lead for all but the most trivial performances (Chandra refuses to do advertisements for any product she is not directly tied to). Ten months ago Hard Candy made carefully-targeted waves by adding their first trans member to the roster

Chandra Hather, backstage at the previous concert: Where is my Claire-de-Lunatone Mist machine? If I find out one of you took it you are out. O-U-T out! I need my peppermint puff of air before performing!

And then we delve under the surface. Chandra Hather is a Double Platinum ranked member of the Claire-de-Luna direct selling group and has been part of public disputes with 'the haters' ever since day one. Mrs Matashi doesn't care how often she needs to talent scout a replacement member of the group, as long as the media focuses more on who's joining than why someone's leaving then the money will keep rolling in.

A hater, standing near a pair of twins: Man, I wish someone would shut up that diva.

But now as her starlet is starting to age out of the role, the allure of selling Hard Candy to QBL Records becomes all the more enticing for Mrs Matashi and the fame from Hard Candy winning the Battle of the Bands would give her a lot of leverage in negotiations for selling the group.

That is, if they win.

Sinatra: (in a rage) <Who the heck are those bozos and what do they want with the Battle of the Bands?!>

Paul: (nervously) <I think they're trying to beat us...>

Dio: (laughing) <Nonsense, Paul! Those [J-Pop] folks are no match for the power of HEAVY METAL ROCK AND ROLL...!>

Kim: "We gotta go to Sinnoh to catch ourselves a Turtwig straight away... those people are already preparing..."

Ever: There's Nature Power, but it's only viable near the cave itself, and on the rocks. Still, worth watching out for.

Does that sword do anything cool?
Tibalt: Well it's on fire when not sheathed, why do you ask?

Tibalt: What, why? Can't you just do the laser thing again?

Kin Island, Revy's Grave (Geomancy at +2)

-the shockwave throws the humans for a loop, and Revy slides down from her perch, stumbling briefly as she lands-

Revy: No good!

Brie: Halc—

-using the momentum from her landing and scramble to regain her footing, Revy strides forward, and slams the heel of her hand into Brie's jaw, cutting her off-

Brie: Mmf!

Atlantis: <Hey! Skyfire isn't here right now, but I'll happily fill in!>

-she dives for Revy, but is intercepted by a descending Elysium, who kicks her away as he plunges-

Elysium: <No, you won't.>

-and he slams to the ground, already bounding towards Spathi and Marmalade as Atlantis readjusts to stay in the air-

Revy: You have the kind of team that needs orders, huh? I can work with that.

Ever: Brie, need a hand?

Brie: I'm not exactly sure what help you're offering, but I'm good.

-she shifts into a fighting stance-

She got in a cheap shot, but I think I can—

-another set of sigils layer over the first one-

-the grass grows higher, and the shaking intensifies, as though something's looking to get out-

Brie: ...Deal with her.

Revy: Can you, though?

-she swings a kick at Brie's face with surprising speed, Brie twisting out of the way, and the two are fighting, Revy's height and reach advantage forcing Brie backwards-

Ever: ...Well, she's not wrong that I don't have much to offer. Marmalade, Spathi, holding up?

Spathi: <Could use some insight!>

-he slashes down with a Dragon Claw, Elysium skidding under him to position himself by the Salamence's back legs. Spathi's left awkwardly pointing at the ground, and is forced to flap hard to avoid crashing, at the same time pushing himself away from Elysium. The Sawsbuck parries a Dragon Claw from Marmalade with a Double Kick, and then whirls around, charging headlong with a Horn Leech-

Marmalade: -gripping Elysium's antlers even as energy drains out of her- <Maybe don't try that when you don't have any leverage, huh?>

Elysium: <You won't get past me. Baccarat!>

Baccarat: <Don't be so impatient! Goodness gracious.>

-Baccarat drops the half-inch between herself and the ground-

-for Marmalade, Spathi, Halcyon, and Atlantis, it's a more dramatic fall-

-the same for Ares and Amanita, as they reenter the battle only to find that Ares's wings aren't enough to keep them aloft anymore-

Kim: (smiles) "Simple." (she takes out her notebook) "Kimberly Bond, lingual consultant. I've been looking for you. You see, my Gligar Dio wants to learn Dark Pulse- the old-fashioned way, and so I'm looking for the ultimate guide on Dark-type moves. The Prax Obsura itself. I tried talking to Rever, but he wasn't in his room... likely working on that Battle of the Bands thing, so I think I'll just leave him alone for now. So... you got the book? Or at the very least someone on your team who can teach Dio the move?"

Dio: <Hello!>

Kin Island, Revy's Grave (Geomancy at +4)

Ares: <Gah why can't I fly holy shit what the he—>

-Amanita recalls him and sends out Box, landing on the Tentacruel's bell with a soft thump-

Box: <Have you gained weight?>

Amanita: Shush.

-she manages to turn her fall mostly into a roll, and lands on her feet, staggering from the increased gravity-

-more light begins weaving itself out of the air-

-meanwhile, now that Marmalade is groundbound, she finds herself minus her usual leverage, and Elysium completes his Horn Leech, shoving her back-

Elysium: <I can tell you how this will go. You'll keep coming at me, and I'll keep winning. I can fight any one of you at once, and if there's more than one of you, I can turn your attacks against each other.>

-he lets out a coughing bray, as he faces down the assembled mons-

<Honestly, I feel like I know you all pretty well, from things Baccarat has said, or Revy.>

Marmalade: <Gods, are we really doing the mid-battle psychoanalysis? I had enough of this from Muninn.>

Elysium: <Like, Revy said she's pretty sure you fancy yourself some sort of thinker? Battlefield strategist? Whatever. You don't have what it takes here. Maybe I'm not smarter than you, and frankly that's a big maybe, but I'm far enough out of your league that it won't make a difference.>

Marmalade: <You're overwrought.>

Elysium: <You're outclassed.>

-he snorts, and turns his attention to Spathi and Atlantis-

<You two are a mirror of each other. Salamence, you've got the will, but you don't have the loyalty. Dragonite, you've got the opposite problem. I have both, and it's why neither of you are strong enough either.>

Atlantis: <You really like the sound of your own voice, huh?>

Spathi: <He has nothing else to recommend him.>

Elysium: <Mock me when you can beat me. Sigilyph...there's no point. You wouldn't care, nobody else would care. You don't seem to have much by way of qualities.>

Halcyon: <You're essentially correct.>

Atlantis: <...That doesn't bother you to hear?>

Halcyon: <No?>

Elysium: <Hm. Like I said. None of you are competent.>

Marmalade: <...Yeah, but none of us went on a monologue and gave the backup time to get here.>

-and Elysium is flung off his feet by a massive stream of water-

Elysium: <Argh!>

-he struggles to his feet, but as he moves, he realizes something's wrong-

Marmalade: <Oops.>

Elysium: -gritting his teeth- <...You're not the only one who can stall.>

-At two Geomancy boosts, Baccarat is indeed feeling a little lightheaded, and she's just as happy for the breather while Elysium goes on one of his tangents. But she's feeling better now, and there's no time to rest on laurels! She wags her wings-

-While Kim is talking to Pentigan, Ian muses to himself and Evelyn about the prospect of Meloetta running a Battle of the Bands-

Me: To think... Meloetta...

Piku-chan: <She's running the show...>

Me: -chuckles to himself- I guess even muses can be inspired.

Evelyn: And soon, Inspiration shall strike every one of us... and not just us...

Hatty: <...but all the other bands who will participate...>

Me: ...and Hard Candy is just the beginning... Who knows how many other bands will be playing at this godsblessed event.

Evelyn: I know... Isn't it exciting?

Me: And what's even more exciting...

Piku-chan: <Is that some of...>

Hatty: <...if not ALL of the bands...>

Evelyn: ...have the potential...

Me: ...to be...

Ian, Evelyn, Piku-chan and Hatty: <NEW FRIENDS!!!

-Ian, Evelyn, Piku-chan and Hatty jump up and down, laughing and smiling all the while at the prospect of all the potential friends there could be at the Battle of the Bands-

-as energy winds around the existing sigils, the fight pauses for a moment-

-the tenor's changed-

Ever: ...We gotta win, now.

Revy: You won't!

Brie: Shut up!

-she lunges at Revy, shoulder-checking her hard enough to send the other girl stumbling, and kicks her legs out from under her-

Brie: Atlantis, Halcyon, attack!

Ever: Spathi, Marmalade, you too!

Amanita: Box!

-a Hyper Beam, Extrasensory, two Dragonbreaths, and a Scald all surge towards Baccarat-

-who is swapped out with a Blissey, who takes the attacks like they're nothing-

Hygieia: <A good try, dears.>

-and that's it. Ever seems to wilt where they're standing. The fliers, already pressed to the ground, give up trying to get airborne, Amanita sliding off of Ares. Brie, one foot holding Revy down, loses focus completely, which Revy doesn't bother capitalizing on. Hygieia just giggles-

Hygieia: <Elysium, are you alright there?>

Elysium: <I'll live.>

Hygieia: <Admirable goals! Baccarat, darling?>

Baccarat: <Here we go!>

-the sigils explode into rainbow-colored life, the grass in the area growing wildly, and in varieties that have long since gone extinct, or haven't even evolved yet-

-the earth rattles-

-and Baccarat wags her wings once more-

Ever: Fuck. | Brie: Mierda. | Amanita: ...Oh.
