Shadow grins, a clever thought occurring to him. He allows Scout to take the blow before recalling him and sending out Ophidia.

The Snivy remains utterly silent as her vines extend. She completely avoids eye contact with Armando, holding her head down.

Shadow: Ophidia, Leaf Blade!

Ophidia: ... -half-heartedly swings her vines at Armando, almost guaranteed to miss, and if she does it won't do much-

Silversmith: "Uhh, perhaps that wasn't the best—"

Armando: <Wow. First you leave me, then you don't fight me. Do you love me or not? Pick one!>

Silversmith: "Let's focus. Use Ember!"

Armando also intentionally missed.

Silversmith: "Why do my pokemon keep missing!? This happens every fight!"

Shadow grins, knowing what was happening.

Shadow: Ophidia! I said Leaf Blade, not Vine Whip.

When Ophidia responded, she spoke almost robotically, without hissing.

Ophidia: <I never intended to leave you. I don't even know what made me lose my temper so badly. You're right; Maverick wasn't my business. Neither was his girlfriend... Um... Chilly? No, still not remembering it correctly.> -half-heartedly swings her vines again- <So I had no reason to be upset.>

Archer jumps up, firing one of Ruby's grenades tied to an arrow to attempt to clear out the Valkyries.

Ruby does similarly, without the benefit of having arrows.

Rin attempts to pick off the Valkyries, backing away to hopefully get out of range of the ground pounds.

All are significantly abnormal in a normal world... All are significantly normal in an abnormal world.

Armando was re-invigorated.

Armando: <You... didn't intend to leave? Why did you fight so damn hard? We were sitting there, all happy, and then BOOM. You're in a fight!>

He sounded less accusatory and more hopeful.

Silversmith: "I don't suppose you were considering using ember again?"

Armando ignored him.

Ophidia: <I can't seem to remember the transition from arguing with Snowy to that violent brawl... She kept calling me manipulative and all, but I think I snapped completely when she called me a treacherous snake, or something. When exactly did you leave, anyway? I'm not sure when it happened.>

Shadow piped up.

Shadow: The argument began with Snowy correctly guessing Ophidia had used Attract on Maverick, and Ophidia mentioned she didn't need him anyway, she found someone special too. Then the insults began. Um, I mean, Ophidia, use Leaf Blade!

Now his reason for bringing out Ophidia was clear. He wanted the two to resolve things between them.

Silversmith: "I see. Ha ha, very funny Shadow. We can let these two work out their differences elsewhere. Let's finish this fight! Go, Cortez!"

Cortez: <Hooray!>

Armando: <I left right when you ruined the moment and I figured out it was due to Maverick's new girlfriend. Speaking of, she insulted you? Why didn't you call me to your aid? I could have roasted that...I'll refrain.>

Shadow grinned, as mischievous as his Zorua. He sent out his best Pokemon.

Shadow: All right, you got me. Now, for my Aerial Ace in the hole, my Trump Card... Maverick! I choose you!

Maverick: <You're finished! It's over, it was over the moment you, Cortez, with your double weakness to Flying type moves.>

Shadow: Maverick, let's finish this with one blow! Aerial Ace!

Silversmith smiled.

Silversmith: "You assume you will ever land said aerial ace."

Cortez: <Uhhh, he's kinda got a point, it can't miss—>

Silversmith: "Mach punch!"

Cortez smiled himself, and faked two mach punches before throwing the real one at Maverick.

Maverick groaned as the blow landed, sending him back a few feet, where he teetered before keeling over.

Shadow blinked a few times.

Shadow: MAVERICK! NO!

Shadow recalls Maverick then sent out Scout.

Shadow: There will be no mercy. Scout, use Air Slash.

Scout: <RAAWWWW... I DON'T LIKE THE WAY YOU'RE TALKING. IT'S WORRYING. YOU CAN ALWAYS HEAL YOUR ABSOL.> -uses Air Slash-

Cortez: <Well that's not guaranteed to hit! I've got a shot! So should I dodge left or—>

The air slash slammed into Cortez like a truck into an ant. Silversmith withdrew him.

Silversmith: "Well, that was to be expected. I bet I would have won if I had a certain ghost type helping me out right about now. *sigh* Well played, Shadow."

He extended his hand for a handshake.

Armando, to Ophidia: <So, uhh, we're still good?>

Shadow shook hands, a firm but gentle grip. He'd mastered said type of grip while handling Mischief, who yelped if he was too rough but panicked if he wasn't firm enough.

Ophidia said nothing at first, simply nuzzling Armando in reply. When she spoke, she borrowed a term of endearment from Snowy.

Ophidia: <We're good... Sssweetheart...>

Armando: <...I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm not sure how I feel about that particular nickname... Regardless! I am content once more!>

Silversmith Senior had entered the scene.

Silversmith Sr.: "Fantastic! The family likes my work! All I need is that part... Did a package come for me today? It's pretty late now."

Silversmith: "Uhhh, I don't know..."

Silversmith Sr.: "Let's find out. Shadow, nice sigilyph."

The party re-entered the hotel.

It had arrived! The package lay in wait at the front desk. Silversmith Senior kissed the package and placed it securely in his pocket. The party returned to their room, after Silversmith took his leave to heal his now mangled team.

Silversmith Sr.: "Well, we should probably head to bed now. Shadow, your bed is back there. Forgive me, but I couldn't afford a second room for you and your pokemon."

Armando: <Forgiven. *smiles at Ophidia*> Smiling is nice... I should do it more often.

Cortez: <Finally! I bet when we wake up my tail will be back to normal.>

Cortez's tail was still three fruit short. Silversmith pulled out a small, silver object from his backpack.

Cortez: <What's that?>

Silversmith: "Protection. Don't worry about it, go to sleep."

Armando: <You forgot to—>

Silversmith: "Oh, yes."

Silversmith laid out a book in front of Armando.

Armando: <Say, Ophidia? Would you like to keep me company as I peruse this book? I believe the subject would interest you. It is a fictional tale about a brilliant man who solves crimes. The fun part is where you solve it before he does! I'm sure you would find much success.>

Aqua had been completely silent throughout the entire preparations. Because she was such a new addition, nobody noticed her sitting in the corner. She sat silently, waiting for the moment that Cortez would fall asleep. The sunlight slowly vanished as night had its way with the hotel room.

Helmsman fired Category 5 into the same crowd while Kazuma leveled a round from Cold Blood into a Valkyrie.
