I'm irritated that I'm just remembering that Darkstalkers has a manga. And apparently some light novels I've never heard of. Also irritating, when you Google Darkstalkers manga, you mostly get Udon comics.

Although, I'm not entirely sure the one I read is the same one that was just mentioned. Because it's already been translated & it's been available on Udon website for a while now. I don't remember Raptor being in there at all.

The manga I was talking about is Tamashii no Mayoigo, which also had the VSAV cast. Only the first 5 chapters have been scanned and translated.

Didn't know about the one Udon bought over though. Even includes a Red Earth manga apparently.

I didn't even know there was more than Darkstalkers manga out there.

I wonder if that's the whole reason why Darkstalkers & Red Earth is so front center for the Capcom Fighting Collection?

The Fighting Game Round Table has been underway for a while, but one of the most interesting bits from the discussion was the developers views on F 2 P and if its a market going forward. Some devs are apprehensive, since some fiddled with it in the past, but people are keeping their eyes on Sega after the success of Virtual Fighter, and more importantly, a LOT of them are paying attention to Project L to see what it does.

What about an Overwatch model, where the characters and balance patches are free but the costumes and colors are paid DLC? So, not Pay 2 Win, but Pay 2 Look Cool.

Multiversus is gonna take a Fortnite approach from what i've heard. That also includes battle passes, so it's gonna be kind of weird for a platform fighter

What lbbsd said.

I am kinda curious no one really brings up Brawlhalla, but I didn't play enough to know how it handles its DLC.

Over the years I keep forgetting how expensive DLC can be when everything adds up. I was always caught up in the moment to actually pay attention. If you're not getting any of the DLCs are on sale then they're just as expensive as a new game. Sometimes even more so. It never really bothered me since I never really believe anyone touches all the characters available.

I really wouldn't know how a F 2 P fighting game would work since I've always bought the game & that's it. I mean, how you do really find out that character is for you if you can't even try them out? I really don't know if DOA or KI actually pull this off or not?

Max pretty much argues all the developers' points about F 2 P. They've loose arguments like comparing something like Killzone to Fornite. Max believes that something like VF has a future in the F 2 P idea, but I'm not entirely sure about that.

While it was pretty successful going off what Max has said about the VF port that was released somewhat recently, I'm not sure how much actually had to be reworked. It wasn't just porting & they reworked the game with a new engine or something like that. The thing is the biggest appeal when it comes to fighting games, at least to me, are the characters themselves and VF's cast are painfully generic & straightforward as they get. That being said, once again going off what Max has said before, the VF port was very successful & apparently it had over 8 million downloads so what would I know? I still don't think that would work for VF 6 nearly as well as the VF 5 port was new & free.

I personally believe the only IPs F 2 P fighting games that do have a chance would be a completely hypothetical Jump game or a Capcom All-Stars game but honestly I still think they wouldn't do all that well. Even more so for the Capcom All-Star game.

Okay, so I made a moveset for a character in One Piece, but I mostly want to talk about one mechanic in particular. Here's the moveset:

     Queen

Queen fights in Hybrid form and transforms into Brachiosaur form instead of jumping for his aerial moves. While in Brachiosaur form, you freely control his head by raising or lowering his neck and walking forward or backward.

5L: A hook punch downward with the mechanical claw on his arm.

  • 5LL: A downward punch from above with the mechanical claw on his ponytail. High.
  • 5LLL: He holds his dao sword with both hands and does a big downward horizontal slash with it.

2L: A hook punch from the right with his tail-claw.

5M: An inward horizontal slash with his dao sword, holding it with his regular hand.

2M: A low straight punch forward from the left with his tail-claw. Low.

6M: A downward punch from above with the mechanical claw on his ponytail. High.

5H: A strong downward straight punch from the right with the mechanical claw on his tail that launches the opponent.

2H: He transforms into his Brachiosaur form, reaches upward with his neck to bite at the opponent in the air, then he spits them down onto the ground. After, Queen is "airborne" in Brachiosaur form. Command grab. Air invincible.

6H: Bridal Grabber. Queen ignites the metal claw on his ponytail and reaches down to grab the opponent, burning them in the process. Command grab.

5S: He extends his neck down and fires 5 small purple laser beams out of his mouth downward in a spread, creating small explosions on contact.

2S: He extends his ponytail up and fires 5 small purple laser beams out of the claw downward in a spread, creating small explosions on contact.

6S: He fires 2 purple laser beams downward out of the mechanical claws on both his tail and ponytail, over his shoulders.

  • 6SS: He runs forward on all fours while firing 4 beams downward out of his tail and ponytail claws.

j.5L: His neck extends on a mechanical tether forward to hit the opponent with his nose.

j.5M: His neck extends on a mechanical tether forward and he bites the opponent.

j.5H: Needles extend out of his teeth and he reaches downward to bite the opponent.

j.2H: He reaches upward with his neck to bite at the opponent in the air, then he spits them down onto the ground. Command grab.

j.5S: He opens his mouth and two gun barrels pop out and fire four bullets forward. Input j.2S to shoot the bullets downward.

236L/M/H: Black Coffee Beam. He shoots a large purple laser beam at a shallow angle downward, creating a large explosion on contact.

  • L: He shoots the beam from his hand claw.
  • M: He extends his neck up and fires the beam out of his mouth.
  • H: He shoots the beam from his tail claw over his shoulder.

j.236L/M/H: Black Coffee Beam. He shoots a large purple laser beam out of his mouth, creating a large explosion on contact.

  • L: He shoots the beam forward.
  • M: He shoots the beam slightly upward.
  • H: He shoots the beam downward.

214L/M/H: Flying Pan. Queen runs forward while doing a barrage of hook punches using his arm claw, his ponytail claw, and tail claw, ending with a strong downward straight punch with his tail-claw that launches the opponent.

  • L: He does 9 punches and moves 30% of the screen forward. Does 900 damage.
  • M: He does 12 punches and moves 40% of the screen forward. Does 1,200 damage.
  • H: He does 15 punches and moves 50% of the screen forward. Does 1,500 damage.

236S/214S: Plague Rounds. Queen goes into his human form and shoots a gatling gun forward loaded with virus bullets that infect the opponent. The two different viruses cancel each other out.

  • 236S: Ice Oni. Blue bullets that freeze and mutate the opponent into an oni. It boosts their damage by 5% but prevents them from blocking and constantly drains recoverable HP.
  • 214S: Mummy. Red bullets that dry out and spread green blotches on the opponent. It does recoverable damage over time and reduces defense by 5%.

236L+M (Air OK) Level 1: Brachio Bomber. Queen goes into brachiosaur form and jumps into the air, falling down on the opponent with an epic headbutt. Does 2,300 damage raw, 820 scaled.

236H+S Level 1: Queen prepares to use the Germa 66 moves. After using one, he can use a different one for another bar of meter by pressing or holding a different button.

  • L: Sparking Queen. Queen shoots a barrage of red laser beams out of his eyes downward, carpet-bombing the area in front of him with laser explosions. Does 2,000 damage raw, 840 scaled.
  • M: Henry Queen. Queen charges his body with blue electricity and then extends his neck upward to ram into the opponent and shock them with a huge blast of lightning. Invincible. Does 2,200 damage raw, 800 scaled.
  • H: Winch Queen. Queen extends his mechanical arm downward and grabs the opponent, then he swings them around, grinding them into the wall. Command grab. Does 2,400 damage raw, 760 scaled.
  • S: Stealth Black. Queen turns invisible temporarily. His projectile moves are still visible.

214L+M or 214H+S Level 3: Brachiosnakeus, Brachiocoilus. Queen goes into brachiosaur form and then straightens out his body. He whips his tail to launch his neck and tail out of his body forward, wrapping around the opponent like a snake and crushing them. Does 4,000 damage raw, 1,700 scaled.

  • Level 4-5: Brachio Launcher. While crushing them, Queen monologues about the two rocket launchers in his discarded torso called the Brachio Launchers and accidentally shoots himself with a rocket. He can shoot himself with both rockets, the second one releasing the opponent from the coil. Each shot does 900 damage raw, 500 scaled, and 700 recoverable self-damage.

The thing I wanted to talk about is that this character does not have any aerial attacks (he does exactly 1, and it makes more sense to be a Super than an aerial normal), but he also has a transformation he uses semi-frequently where he transforms into a brachiosaurus and attacks people with his head, headbutting and biting them. My idea was that instead of jumping, this character would transform into his brachiosaur form, and you would control his head.

Are there any other characters in fighting games like that? I know there are characters with specialized hovers instead of a jump, but are there any where the character is just looooonger and technically still grounded? The closest thing I can think of is Helix from ARMS.

Shouldn't you post this in the One Piece thread?

I did. The point of posting it here was just to ask about the mechanic of replacing a jump with the character getting looooong, if any games had done that before.

Actually, I think there was a character that couldn't jump. Instead, it was an attack or a stance. I can't remember, but I'm fairly sure he was a boss.

There are 3D characters but they can still jump.

Usually they'd just give a character like one jump when most characters usually have a double jump. They did that in Clash of Ninja.

The Playstation App page for All Star Battle R has an updated trailer that now includes Baoh among the characters at the end, but also has thirteen empty spots, and Pucci is missing.

Considering that Eyes of Heaven split him into Whitesnake and C-Moon versions, that's likely what's happening here. His screenshots on the site also don't have his 14 Words gauge.

No, something's off. The image has 53 slots. I literally just counted (really goddamn hard to do because of the uneven pictures, but it was easier once I put it into an editing software and cropped it into smaller chunks). There's even a comparison image with the original, and here are the changes made to the overall design:

  • For some reason, Dio was replaced by DIO and Hol Horse was replaced by Bruno, while Dio took Kakyoin's old spot. These do not change the picture layout any.

  • Bruno was replaced by Hol Horse, and the size of his picture was cut in half, adding one extra space.

  • DIO was replaced by Kakyoin, and the size of his picture was cut in half, adding one extra space.

  • Waamu, Narancha, Josuke8, and one of the empty spaces were shifted and made smaller to make room for Baoh, and Pucci was removed entirely.

So there are 53 slots, with 3 extra empty spaces. One new one under Hol Horse, one next to Kakyoin, and one where Pucci used to be. I don't think this is a mistake. I think there are going to be 50 characters on the official roster, but 53 characters total because three of those characters will be sub-variations of other characters. My bet is two Kiras, two Jotaros, and two Puccis.

TL:DR, there are 13 empty slots on the new image. It seems like they may be folding characters into each other as variations, so there might be 10 all-new characters.

Both Kira's are still on the updated character lineup, so I'm pretty sure one of those new slots definitely isn't another Kira. At the very least, I'm glad that Baoh's back... wait, I just realized something. They previously said that the game would have 50 characters from all over the Jojo franchise, right?

Since Baoh isn't a Jojo character, what if those new slots are for characters from other Araki works, like BT or Irene? In fact, Baoh, BT and Irene make up 3 characters, 50 + 3 = 53, our current roster number.

I didn't mean that. More that the current two Kiras could be folded into each other.

That second thought is a possibility, though you'd think they would have announced that with the Baoh thing.
