I recently started New Leaf. Yes, I know Über Late to the party.

For something that I might play 20 minutes at a time, it's kinda fun and pretty chill.

Rumor going around that the new game could release as early as March. Source is reliable—they leaked info on Pokémon Let's Go.

Since this thread is pretty much dead anyways, here are my hopes:

  • Largest town size in the series. The Switch's power allows for that. I would like something bigger than the original (5x6), but not anything bigger than 10x10. Still needs to have that small town/village feel.

  • Integrate main street back into the main village. Either have it as its own separate strip or have the buildings be scattered around the town like in games prior to New Leaf. I don't want any load times other than entering buildings, going to the island, or activating online features.

  • Movement of buildings. I want to be able to move all buildings, including homes, services, shops, town hall, and yes even the plaza and dock. Maybe make this as a public works project you can start if you do a sidequest from Tom Nook. This would be great for those people who want to make their own aesthetics, or for the person who wants to move a building they placed in the wrong spot. Also, I can understand not being able to move the train station if it remains as the main way of going to other towns.

  • More town variation. Maybe I want oceans on three sides of the town, or maybe I want cliffs on two sides. Maybe the train tracks are on the east side of town.

  • Buying town plots. This one has been asked by the fans for a while, and I agree. I want to be able to force animals/players into specific plots.

  • More town ordinances. Two specifics that I've been wanting:
    • Donations. I want animals to donate more towards public works projects. It sucks they give pitiful amounts in New Leaf. I still wouldn't expect them to completely fund the project in a day, but maybe fund it in a week or so if a player doesn't.
    • Reversed hours. Make it so that every animal, shop, service, and event happens at night and closes during the day. Example: Re-Tail is open from 11am to 9pm. With this ordinance, Re-Tail would be open from 11pm to 9am. Most of the other things would be affected, including the daily town reset (at 6 pm), mail collection (9pm and 5 am), and animals sleep schedules. The only exceptions would be Blathers and Celeste's sleep schedules and whoever mans the post office. Maybe make Phyllis nicer and Pelly meaner because of it. This would be useful for people who are night owls or have night based schedules.

  • Celebrate major NPC birthdays. I want to be able to celebrate a major NPC's birthday with them, maybe even get their picture from it.

Double post: Here's the first ever English PR for the N64 Animal Crossing given to foreign press at Spaceworld 2000.

Looks like there was intention to localize it, but I'm glad they waited for the updated rerelease we actually got on the Gamecube.

Happy Home Designer style home decoration, the ability to date characters including Isabelle and others, maybe even the ability to build your home yourself ala Happy Home Designer.

I'd really rather not have romance elements. That'd be weird.

Let's see...Since it's on the Switch, it'd be nice if the towns had more space. I remember you could have a lot of villagers in the Gamecube version. Was City Folk comparable in that regard? I never played it.

It'd be nice if the game acknowledged permanent NPC's birthdays. You can't mail anything to them, so you can't give them gifts, and they never point it out. The only one I know Isabelle's, and that's only because my alt's birthday is my half-birthday and Isabelle said it was the same as hers.

I would definitely like the option to make pro designs for pants, shorts, and skirts along with what's already available. I had a lot of fun with that whole system, and it'd better still be there in the next game.

I liked Dream Towns, so I hope that or something like it stays. Going off that, a proper report system would't hurt, even if it was just a page on Nintendo's website or something. I've only ever seen one town that was bad enough that I would've reported it if I could, but that town was supposed to be a literal concentration camp. It was disgusting.

Also, I hope they have the storage compartment option that the Welcome Amiibo update added available in the base game. Probably not right off the bat, but it should be there. With that thing there, I don't even need an alt for extra storage.

[up] The original was the largest at 6x5 area and 15 max villagers. Likely due to each area being in it's own screen to help on memory.

Wild World had 4x4 and 8.

City Folk/Town and City had 5x5 and 10.

New Leaf was 5x4 and 10.

Also, what I want for AC Switch is farther up the page, but I'll quote block it for ease:

  • Largest town size in the series. The Switch's power allows for that. I would like something bigger than the original (5x6), but not anything bigger than 10x10. Still needs to have that small town/village feel.

I hope the next game has an easy way to change your house with the click of a button. Like, you "save" certain rooms and can switch between them at will. It would make seasonal rearranging much easier.

The next game needs to bring back some of the festivals from the original title. I also wish they'd bring back the piles of leaves around town as well.

Toy Day is today (or is it tomorrow?) but I don't feel like starting up my New Leaf file. For some reason, holidays in NL feel like they take more time and commitment than in the previous games.

This reminded me of how Second Life is popular amongst retired and disabled people who can't go out and about like theyd want to. I wonder if an AC MMO would work.

[up] You don't need to use online, though. I've never once played AC with another person. It's optional. I was referring to a multiplayer-centric version of Animal Crossing.

Gamexplain did a video on features that haven't appeared in a few titles.

I'd like a lot of features from the GCN game back but I honestly want the diaries back. The games need an in-series calendar.

I wonder if the Animal Crossing games should be split up on their own pages now. At minimum, New Horizons looks like it should have its own page in a few months.

I don't like this new approach. It look fun but it's just such a departure from the previous games. If I wanted Harvest Moon, I'd play Story of Seasons Switch. It feels like the game will be slower than New Lesf. I hated how it took forever for everything to become accessible.

They're showing New Horizons on Treehouse Live. You can now choose to put your town (island?) in the Southern Hemisphere. That's pretty neat.

LMAO, you can accumulate miles in this game by doing various tasks. Never thought THAT would be an actual mechanic in a video game.

I like crafting mechanics, and it looks like they'll be tied to a fun game this time, unlike Pocket Camp.

Double post: here's some more info from the stream easily summarized by IGN.

The info:

  • Local single screen multiplayer with up to 4 players.
  • Online can go up to 8.
  • Single Joy Con control
  • Seems like there will only be one island per game/console and each Switch OS account is required for a new character.
  • Important NP Cs, such as Isabelle, return, but must be unlocked.
  • Nogami and Kyogoku mention you don't have to upgrade your tent to a house, but you won't get major NP Cs if you decide not to upgrade.

Darker skin tones were shown off at the end of the trailer, but how you get them wasn't explained during the tree house.

The island setting is a bit disappointing but I guess it makes sense as a departure from the previous rural setting.
