They're like that for a reason. That's as much as I'll say without giving spoilers.

And I think Anemone is more cute than actually hot.

I dunno, there's definitely something hot about her. But she's usually terrifying, when I'm not feeling bad for her. Kari Wahlgren does a great job in the dub...

Yes, I watched a whole lot of E7 today, up to I think episode 13. How Dominic got that far in the military without basic orienteering skills boggles my mind. So, other thoughts...

  • I still don't understand where the 606, 808, and 909 store their boards. It's obviously the Nirvash's spoiler in vehicle mode, and the Mon-Soonos keep it folded and mounted on top of their weapons pods, but with the rest...I don't get it.

  • I feel so bad for the Federation KLF air force or whatever they call it...its pilots are just dying off at such an incredible rate, between coralians, battles with Gekkostate, and just plain bad lifting conditions. It's like they made a bunch of fighter pilots become surfers whether they were any good at it or not, and if they weren't...well, even all the computer assistance (their weird eyeball helmets, and the completely different controls) isn't enough to keep them alive.

  • Still loving the fundamentals...pacing (usually, sort of, kind of...), the dub, the animation, the music...this actually is definitely one of my favorite anime.

Well I guess there's some allure with how Anemone seems overly enthusiastic and teasing-like in her attitude sometimes, though I guess that's just not my taste. That said, yes, her voice work is really great.

And yeah, i still haven't settled how Dominic got that post without knowing how to read maps. He might be dyslexic or something like that, and have gotten the post out of either for being Kicked Upstairs or thanks to some good connections.

Speaking of character abilities or lack thereof: While it might not seem that Renton is always a hugely useful member of the crew at this point, I can't deny his mechanical skills are pretty awesome. Though apparently he tunes everything to run loud and squirrely, but still, that's something. While lifting may be what he wants to do, all those years being raised by a mechanic paid off.

Other things on my mind are...

  • Those eyeball helmets the pilots have are still getting to me. I'm still not really very sure how they work, and they seriously dehumanize the pilots a lot. It's good in light of that that we finally get to see some of them as more fully realized people (though just a bit) after the Gekko/Izumo team-up much later.

  • Holland and Talho really are immature for their important positions, and while I'd think some people might deride this as unrealistic, it actually really is it gives them a lot of depth.

  • The Gekko really is very cool. One of my favorite of all the anime Cool Ship examples, which in mecha shows there are plenty of.

  • I wonder if the various E7 videogames are any good...

Holland and Talho going through character development from being "fake" adults to "real" adults in their behavior is an intentional plot point anyway.

Also, spoilers in your post.

Dominic is seen talking to Dewey fairly early on, whilst he is in prison. and didn't Dewey still have some influence whilst he was in prison?

Also, in the fourth ed he is standing next to a Dewey, and well dressed despite being in a war zone and a child.

Covered up the spoilers. Also, apparently the video games aren't that great. Somehow, I'm not surprised.

Also, next OP starts in episode 14! I remember that being a fun one. But of course I never got to see the full thing, so looking forward to that.

Each pair of OP/ED is used for 13 episodes, except for the last pair, which is used for 11 episodes.

2nd OP is okay; it's the Nijiura Seven (or whatever it's called) OP. I hate that meme for some reason.

"Dewey", I mean, seriously, he's got the same name as one of unca Donald's triplets (Hewey, Dewey and Louie).

He can make all the Omnicidal Maniac The Revolution Will Not Be Civilized speeches he wants, I'll never be able to respect him with a name like that.

Yeah, I often was a little skeptical of his name too...you just gotta go with it, I guess. tongue

It's an anime. When it comes to non-Japanese names, I feel like you never really know what to expect.

Ok, in the second ending, when we see Anemone and Gulliver, am I the only one who thinks it looks like an arc of little pieces of poop is flying out of Gulliver's general rear area?

Anyway, I just watched episode 21. Ray and Charles have been introduced at last! It's time for...er...this arc. Yep.

Also, I'm still kind of puzzled at how Renton never considered the fact that yes, the enemy mecha do have real human pilots. Not like I'm saying he ever was Genre Savvy, but this sure shows that he isn't. Any mecha anime fan plunged into the world of their favorite show suddenly would know they were killing people, right?...

Yes, Gulliver is doing big business on camera.

And Renton is not diving into a fictional world from his perspective either.

I just...yeah, as, um, can't spell his name right so I'm just gonna say Matthew points out to Renton, they fly their LF Os so wouldn't it be obvious that the military has people in theirs? Was Renton really that sheltered growing up?

This is why I don't like to call mecha "giant robots". They're very much vehicles, especially in this series, what with vehicle mode and all. Speaking of which, these past few episodes gave a great look at just where, exactly, the arms of an LFO fold up when in vehicle mode. Namely, those various rear-view shots of the 606 when it was in the hangar.

Also, the Vodarac priest that they rescued sounded like an old woman to me, even though they kept saying "him"...I couldn't really tell by appearance what gender they were, I suppose it doesn't really matter, but that seems like a case of bad voice actor choice.

When Dewey meets with Charles and Ray, I find it kind of odd that he's all "You're still using that thing?" about their Spearhead LF Os, when they almost seem more advanced than the Gekkostate's. No need for a board, lots of weird little lasers that can shift position in a very peculiar and advanced-looking way, very advanced-looking cockpit...it hardly seems outdated or junky or anything.

There's just the possibility of Renton, well, not having thought it at all.

And IIRC, Gekkostate and the Beamses both have relatively hard-to-use, older model LFO units, compared to KLF squadrons.

#73: Sep 12th 2011 at 11:23:48 AM

Yeah, that is true, it's said in many places that the Mon-soono was developed for mass production and therefore designed to be flyable by more pilots...but they rely on a lot of automation or assistance or something, and in the end don't have nearly the same performance, as we see constantly throughout the series. It's just like in most mecha series: the Mecha-Mooks are highly effective against non-mecha, but can't hope to match high performance models.

So in that regard, I can't wait to see the Beams' LFOs in action again...I can't remember whether they engage the Gekkostate in aerial combat or whether the fighting is mostly through their assault on the ship.

Oooooh... this show is viewtiful. But, honestly, there was so much foreshadowing most stuff comes off as The Unreveal. The only big surprise was when the Nirvash sarted dismembering KLF instead of killing them, and you could see they had white flesh inside. Most of the secrets they hid from us... well, there really was no point in not telling us right off the bat. It's less WHAT A PLOT TWEEEST and more "huh, yeah, that actually totally makes sense".

A case of true love has the same redeeming power as a case of genuine curiosity: they are the same.
