Great Off Screen War

I just came across this trope while making an addition to the Cowboy Bebop page. It lead me to wonder: does this trope really apply only to wars?

In Bebop's case, we're given brief glimpses of Spike's past involvement with Vicious, the Red Dragon Syndicate, how he ended up meeting Julia, and even how Julia was once both Vicious and Spike's lover.

Nothing about those scenes are ever actually explained though. I think that counts for the trope, right? It's not a war, but it's something that is mentioned, briefly shown, but never really explained.

If it's not a war, it's not Great Offscreen War. There are tropes linked to on that page which might cover it.

..... not really. Cryptic Background Reference doesn't really fit.

As much as the idea of Noodle War amuses me, I'm going to go ahead and head it off now as being a bad snowclone.

Fight smart, not fair.

I thought it might be Noodle Incident as well, but that trope gives me the impression that NOTHING is ever shown or told about what it used to be, where-as here at least something is even if it all is still left in the dark. Maybe a trope repair is in order to expand on situations?
