I mean, they already tweaked the lyrics to the DK Rap (and that was for the milder "hell"). I think they could make all-ages-acceptable versions of other songs, too.
If nothing else, I can't wait for "there are too many Fighting Game characters in Smash" to become "there are too many sword users in Smash." Even if there are characters that I'd love to see more from Bandai Namco, Arc System Works, or other fighting game devs.

x4 They removed a mumbled 'Damn right' from Persona 3's Mass Destruction as part of its inclusion with Joker as a fighter here. Of course it'll be censored to keep the game's age rating if included.

First time I've heard this, to be honest. Everywhere I go, including this thread (which admittedly isn't too often), people only bring up the usual candidates for indie representation: Shovel Knight, Shantae, Sans, etc. The Eastern indie scene is rarely given a thought from what I've seen.
I've always thought that if we were to get an indie character, it would be one from a Japanese series, simply because of ease of communication between Sakurai and the original developer, as well as Sakurai's web of networking in the Japanese developer scene. Undertale is possibly the only exception to this barrier due to how much of a presence it made for itself in the Japanese gaming fandom, not to mention Toby Fox having directly worked with Japanese game developers.

I've also seen quite a few requests for Quote in other discussions, as well as Lemeza from La Mulana sometimes. And Touhou (and Miku), albeit as joke answers.

Touhou is an odd beast when it comes to indie subject. It is both highly recognized and underground at the same time due of stuff regarding it (both official and fan-made) being non-commercial with it only recently starting to get into commercial release in both regards.

I wouldn't count out Touhou for Smash, it would be a miracle but Smash Ultimate already has lots of miracles in it.
Maybe Reimu and Marisa will appear as Mii Gunners.

Reimu and Marisa are the main characters, and will probably come as a 2-for-1 deal whether in the form of Echoes or Mii costumes.

They're not completely identical and have some differences statwise, but the gameplay is kinda similar? It's a Bullet Hell game.

I know that much, but I've only ever seen game-play of it once...over 6 years ago. So I don't remember how they play.
That makes sense though. I would say that it's not even likely they'd be a packaged deal, that's just wishful thinking.

Actually aside from that there are a bunch of franchises that, while I don't think they should get a character, should absolutely get some music. Ys, No More Heroes, Guilty Gear, Chrono Trigger, Deltarune, etc.
I wonder if at any point they'd be open to a "Here's a bunch of third-party music not attached to any character" DLC pack. They've already sort of done that with Megalovania.
