Poor Bowser, just wanted to help out with the presentation but got kicked out by Doug
I missed the part where that's my problem.Poor Luigi, he fell for the fake building prize for the third freaking time.
It's been 3000 years…Poor Ganondorf, he's a dessicated corpse.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Poor Link, gets stuck on an island again

You know, Banjo-Kazooie does fit the "All Ultimate Newcomers are misfits" narrative. (Isabelle, Ken, and Incineroar are the exceptions.)
For how this works:
- Daisy is mostly a spin-off character.
- Chrom is overshadowed by his daughter and friend.
- Ridley is from a dormant franchise, and there's the "too big" thing.
- Dark Samus is only in the Metroid Prime series, and died in the third.
- King K. Rool hadn't been in a game since 2008.
- Simon and Richter are ignored in favor of other Catlevania protagonists.
- Inklings' material represent the Wii U, a failed console.
- Plant is just a minion that nobody would expect
- Joker is part of a spinoff series that hasn't been on a Nintendo console before. And in Persona 5, his character is a misfit.
- Banjo-Kazooie also have been gone for a long time, and aren't even Nintendo characters! In fact they are the first playable characters in Smash from a franchise by a non-Japanese developer. (Diddy, King K. Rool, and Dark Samus were created by non-Japanese for an existing franchise.)
(Does DQ Hero fit?)

That's a stretch.
This song needs more love.I'd say DQ Hero being a phenomenon in only one country while niche everywhere else does kind of make them a misfit.
Inklings and Splatoon represent the Wii U? Eh, a stretch. Splatoon 2 is on Switch and just as popular and successful as the original if not more.
Adventurers: homeless people who steal from tombs and kill things. Most of the Splatoon-based content in Ultimate is from the first game, for the Wii U.
That doesn’t mean the franchise represents the Wii U. The Wii U was the platform, but other than that it’s irrelevant. The franchise debuted on the console and then moved on.

Adventurers: homeless people who steal from tombs and kill things. It's mostly a way to tie them to the narrative. Admittedly it's a stretch.

That "narrative" is actually dumb.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. It’s shoehorning. Because they don’t fit that narrative. Splatoon is a hit in America and Japan, it’s hardly a “misfit,” and just using content from the first game means nothing.
By that logic you could call Link a misfit that represents the console because that particular Link debuted on the Wii U and there’s BOTW content in the game. But that makes no sense. The console is irrelevant in both cases.

Adventurers: homeless people who steal from tombs and kill things. All patterns are stretches
Uni catJoker's game is so hot it has at least 3 spinoffs and a remake coming out. Dragon Quest is the one of the most popular and influential RPG's ever. And Chrom is the main character in the Fire Emblem game that put the series on the map.
Misfits my ass.
I highly doubt there's a theme for newcomers beyond Nintendo wanting them in the game. They probably don't even care if you want them in the game, just that they want them.
"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"Well, they do care that the DL Cs sell, and sell Ultimate and Switch as well if possible. We're not likely to see something nobody wanted like Piranha Plant in DLC.
I missed the part where that's my problem.I bet the third time they do the "pretending to be a new character in the trailer" gag, there won't actually be a new character.
x4 Pretty much. I don't even care that much for DQ but people really are shitting on it way too much without understanding that IT IS noteworthy enough to be in smash. For fucks sake, this is a JAPANESE made series, of course they're going to put in a char that appeals to Japan as well.
And yes Banjo does also count with the DQ hero, because BK is liked in Japan as well. Hell, it was even trending over DQ Hero's announcement, which is what suprised me.

Warrior to the very end! My tumblr, dood!x5 Half the time...people just refusing to see what is there.
Half the time, just building something from nothing...or something.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.Ya think Gruntilda will ask Bayo about how she is so good-looking?
Uni catThere's honestly no misfits.
They're all unique and interesting games in their own right. Or have a massive influence in gaming as a series.
It's goddamn Dragon Quest. It's the rpg that was used to build tons of console ones later on. Sure, they didn't choose the original hero(from 1) as the base, but that doesn't matter. They chose a highly recognizable face worldwide, and that's great for all. With some very good alts.
I do wish the alts were a bit better, sure, but what you going to do.
Poor Hero, saves Link from evil clones but gets overshadowed by a bear and bird
