@DoorCurtainSakurai said he thought about including Wario in Melee as a Mario clone, but decided against it since he felt Wario deserved better.

The story I heard was that Sakurai felt that the Mario franchise had more than enough reps already. Given that he was okay with having Zelda's main villain be a clone, I find this more likely.

As long as Bandai Namco is involved with Smash, Pac-Man'll stay.

Mii Swordfighter needs a nerf. Their Up B kills ridiculously early (I'm talking 60s here for mid-weights) and it combos off of the tornado move way too consistently.

Mii Swordfighter is fine. They don't have many good tools besides that one kill confirm.

It's dumb, and was absolutely popularized thanks to ZeRo, but it isnt that bad.

Which Up B? They've got three and I don't really play Swordfighter that often (though I've made several SF Miis, mostly due to how many character outfits they have).

I find it dumb how you can't use Miis in Smashdown or Classic mode. Then what's the point of them and acting like they are a part of the cast?

Yeah, I don't get why they left them out of Classic Mode either. I can imagine three classic campaigns right off the top of my head-one where you fight a bunch of sword guys, then gun guys, then brawler guys. Bam.

Honestly nobody in the game looks that broken right now. It feels about as balanced as Smash has ever been, and other than old standby's people are used to it doesn't seem like there's any one character winning significantly more consistently than others in tournaments.

As punishable as Link/Mii Swordsman's Up B is I think it's fine it kills somewhat early.

Mother gets pretty much a lot of love even if they have only 2 characters in Smash. Sadly people only see characters.

Why is it that sometimes, Flare Blitz just stops in the middle of the stage? Like, Charizard's still spinning and doing the move, he's just not moving forward any. Seems like that kind of thing would be incredibly useful to learn how to control and do at will, but it only seems to happen at the worst possible times.

I think three Classic Modes based on each of the three Mii stages would be cool for the Miis. One with a bunch of fantasy characters for Find Mii, one with a bunch of athletes for Wii Sports, and a different version of Villager's Classic Mode for Tomodachi Life.

Nintendo of Japan just released a video on Piranha Plant. I think it comes out at the end of the month?

Edit: Thinking on it, the video might just be a reminder to register for it.

Still curious about if you can cancel out of Flare Blitz, or something like that. Same goes for when you use Bowser's Down B and he just kind of halts in the air while spinning.

A different complaint: I hate that the game basically forces me to have prior versions of Enhacable Spirits, I don't want them. It bothers me to have Spirits that I already got and Enhanced, I don't want any more. Stupid bad game doesn't even recognize that I've had them in the past, so it gives me more at every possible opportunity. The worst part is that I won't be satisfied having them unless I Enhance them, but I don't want multiples of the same Spirit, and it'll just start the cycle of the game forcing me to have them at every opportunity.

Fuck this stupid, incredibly minor, incredibly petty bullshit that shouldn't bother me but it does. What kind of stupid gacha game doesn't register Enhanced Spirits as the same as Enhanceable Spirits?! It's almost like this isn't how Smash Ultimate is meant to be played, and I know it isn't, and I know I'm being stupid that this bothers me, but that only makes me more annoyed and upset.

Reyntime: I wasn’t specifically referring to Smash with that example. Operation Rainfall was a big deal in 2011-2012, and getting localizations of Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora’s Tower took work.

Operation Rainfall started on 11/06/2011.

The Last Story was released in English on 23/02/2011 (Wikipedia), four months previously.

Pandora's Tower was released on English on 12/04/2011 (Wikipedia), two months previously.

Xenoblade Chronicles is the only game whose English released postdated Operation Rainfall, coming out on 19/08/2011, two months after... but even then, considering the amount of text that had to be translated and all the voice work that had to happen, it was a project that was already well underway by the time people started saying "Hey, release these three games two of which are already available!".

On the topic of shoe-ins, the original 12 aren't going anywhere. I also think that Bowser, Peach, Zelda, Marth, and Mr. Game & Watch are safe, and I doubt the Ice Climbers will be cut again.

Alright, so I've picked my little Spirit descriptions project back up once more, this time adding debut and other notable appearances for each one. I've started with the Mario series (since, after all, they're first numerically), so, if any of you have any recommendations as to which titles should be referenced for them, please feel free to let me know.

Well for starters, Mario should probably have Super Mario Bros. 3 listed.

I’ll do more later.

If we're talking about echo fighters most likely to be dropped, I'm going to assume that Richter, given Konami's weirdness, is practically a given. Though if we're talking about echo we're most likely to lose besides him, I'm going to guess Dark Pit. Even fans of Kid Icarus Uprising such as myself are generally dissatisfied with how he was implemented in Smash. Either they're going to finally declone him (like I want) or he's going to get dropped. After him, Daisy - I predict they'll probably make her act like Alph or female Pokemon Trainer in future installments. Which is a shame, because I like Daisy and I also would like to see her decloned.

As for third-party characters... well, if the current trajectory of the various companies involved are a suggestion, I'm going to guess that Pac-Man is the safest to return, followed by Sonic and Bayonetta, then followed by Mega Man, Ryu, and Ken, then Cloud, with Snake, Simon, and Richter being the shakiest possibilities. Bandai Namco's partnership to produce Smash has been great for them, and I don't see them cutting out any time soon (plus, I think Nintendo has minority ownership stake, so it's pretty easy for the two to work together). Sega has been really friendly with Nintendo for decades now (which, again, really confuses me, child of the 8-bit and 16-bit Console Wars), and both companies have just gotten increased revenues and positive attention from working together, so unless something drastically changes at one or both companies, Sega's crew will stick around. Capcom has been kinda up-and-down as a company, but they do tend to play nice about crossovers, so the only possible cut might be Ken if they want to reduce echoes in the future (on the other hand, they might just declone him similar to his home series).

So Cloud and the Konami crew are the ones where I think a cut (other than for echo fighter reasons) is more than a 5% likely chance. I never take for granted that something regarding Square Enix and Nintendo will result in relations between the two souring again (for example, if Nintendo suddenly screws over the Dragon Quest translations/releases that they've been doing), though for now, I'd be at least a little optimistic the two will keep working together enough that Cloud can stay. For Konami... depends on how the wind blows. I miss when Konami was reliable.

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.

[up][up][up] To be fair, there are many, many titles that can be referenced specifically for Mario, and I don't intend to put every one there. I figured I'd put down the mainline titles (that is to say, the actual Mario platformer titles, 'New' series notwithstanding) from each home console at least.

My own philosophy here is to place particular emphasis on titles in which the character in question is playable (if relevant), so, for example, I noted Super Mario RPG for Peach and Bowser.

Incidentally, if you have a Google account and want to edit the doc with your own suggestions, feel free. I have a backup for each.
