Buzzwole would still be my best choice for a UB, and all of his taunts are just Buzzwole flexing.

Buzzwole, Melmetal, and Regigigas would be my top picks, but Zeraora's also a pretty likely Legendary pick.

I'd honestly like to see Meloetta, mostly since I really like its design and the idea of a music/rhythm themed character has potential, but that's not very likely to happen. Darkrai or Celebi could be potentially fun as well.

If we're just going for S/M Pokemon we would've liked, then I'd say Decidueye, Golisopod, Alolan Marowak, Zerarora, Lycanroc, Mimikyu and Buzzwole were my list. More or less. I'm not too fond of Inceneroar, but I'm glad other people like it.

Soeaking of Celebi, my personal dream is Mystery Dungeon's Grovyle to join, complete with voice, Time Gears and dungeon items for some moves.

And the music. Can't forget the music.

Primarina was my number one Gen VII pick, though I would have also been happy with Golisopod, Steenee or Tsareena, Mimikyu, Salazzle, Kommo-o, Lycanroc, or one of the Tapus. Incineroar wasn't one of my highest wants, but I was happy with it regardless.

I just realized since this is the first game that restricts Assist Trophies/Poke Ball mons from appearing on certain stages (most notably Palkia can't be summoned on Spear Pillar), nothing would have stopped Ho-Oh from being a Poke Ball mon again.

Ho-Oh is great. Its Sacred Fire is a superpowered version of Entei's Fire Spin.

Flare Blitz is not safe on shield.

Dealing a lot of shield damage doesn't mean much if you can't break the shield outright.

As far as Spirit picks from niche titles go, while there's plenty from obscure, non-franchise-affiliated games, I'm surprised that Yoshi's Topsy-Turvy and Wario: Master of Disguise got any Spirits too.

I was surprised that there were two Shantae spirits. I had Shantae herself for the longest time, and I was wondering who got the 1297 spot, and was honestly shocked that it turned out to be Risky.

Hitmonchan would be a fun pick as a Little Mac Echo Fighter. Which other Pokemon could work as Echo Fighters of other cast members? Aside from Hitmonchan as Little Mac, I think Blaziken would be great as a Captain Falcon Echo Fighter (just replace Falcon Punch with the Mii Brawler's Exploding Side Kick). Gardevoir could work as a Zelda Echo Fighter, just replace all of Zelda's varied elemental effects with Psy effects.

Unrelated, but I like when Mr. Game and Watch are implemented into Spirit Fights due to his 2D nature (Vivian and Giratina come to mind).

[up][up][up] The game has seven Echo Fighters, all of which come from the same franchise as the character they're an Echo of. Why would Pokemon be any different?

We honestly don't need a repeat of Ganondorf

To be fair, the problem with Ganondorf wasn't that he was a clone of someone not from Zelda. The problem with Ganondorf was that he was a clone of Captain Falcon specifically.

If he ended up as a reskinned Link, that wouldn't really have been much better. If he waited until Brawl and was cloned off of Ike, that would've maybe been alright - not optimal, by any metric, but alrightier than Falcondorf.

Neither Hitmonchan as a Mac reskin nor Blaziken as a Falcon reskin betray their respective characters. I don't know why either Hitmonchan or Blaziken would even be considered for the playable roster at this point, of course, but if they had to be crammed in there for whatever reason, that wouldn't be the worst way to go about it.

hot take: Ganondorf as a Capt Falcon clone was actually fine and did a good job at representing how Ganondorf felt as a villain, even if it didn't rep his actual appearances terribly well.

on a slight tangent i really really want pig Ganon in the game (the alttp version at least). but i also recognize why that's not going to happen given how beast ganon is ganondorf's final smash

Ganondorf had more problems aside from being based off of an F-Zero character. It's that being based off of Captain Falcon meant that Ganondorf couldn't use any of his most well-known abilities from Ocarina of Time (floating in the air, throwing energy balls, reflecting projectiles), or his Ganon from both from Zelda 1 / A Ltt P or Ocarina for that matter. All that's left is his strength and darkness effects on his punching and kicking.

I'd argue that basing a character off of someone from a different series MIGHT work as long as they were thoughtful about it beyond looking at body types (again, Ganondorf only squeaked into Melee because his model from the Spaceworld 2000 tech demo matched Captain Falcon's muscular human body). For example, some people brought up Kraid as a clone of K. Rool as a joke, but it can KIND OF work: K. Rool's Krownerang can be mimicked by Kraid's boomerang claw attack to an extent, Blunderbuss can be Kraid's belly button claw things without the vacuum effect, and K. Rool's Gut Check can reasonably be used by Kraid since lots of characters have counters anyway. The only special they'd need to change outright is his recovery.

I said clone and not Echo Fighter since a lot of Kraid's normals would need to change, and he can't have K. Rool's armor mechanic, but this is just an example. Taking 3/4 of K. Rool's specials, despite being from a completely different series from Metroid, would still make Kraid behave like how Kraid is depicted in Metroid 1, Super Metroid, and Zero Mission.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Jody Summer as a Zero Suit Samus clone, for that matter, they both serve "Galactic Federations" and Jody's design is similar to Zamus' in general.

Edit: [up][up]Looks like we agree! This is the best kind of being (Gre)[nja]'d

I am fine with model swaps from different franchises provided they have an unique movesets. For example, Jigglypuff and Bayonetta are model swaps of already existing character but they have unique movesets

I wouldn't say that Melee 'Dorf captured the feel of home-series Ganon, but the alterations made in Brawl helped a lot. The tradeoff was that stiff-and-proper TP Ganondorf looked ridiculous doing Falcon's crazy martial arts.

The best thing about Ganondorf getting the sword in Ultimate is that the sword moves replaced some of his most unfitting MMA attacks - the elbow strike and two of his weirdly flexible kicks. As of now, the only things in Ganondorf's moveset that still don't fit the character (IMO) are his up tilt, nair, uair, and Wizard's Foot, all of which are eased by Ganondorf's more spry-looking OOT model.

One small change that I think would really help the character feel even better is if there was an added hit effect to Ganondorf's punch attacks, in which the Triforce of Power glows on Ganondorf's hand throughout the animation and a triangle-shaped flash of light pops up on successful hits. That would unambiguously answer the question of, "Why is Ganondorf punching me?" with, "He's literally punching you with the power of the goddesses."

Do any Spirit summons require the boss spirits?

Nope. However, if you want to have every spirit, you have to enhance Dracula and Marx.
