Come to think of it, maybe the reason this newcomer roster is so focused on fanservice is because of how many newcomers we are going to get, given Sakurai was hoping people weren't expecting too many.
So, how many newcomers there may be in total?
The only good fanboy, is a redeemed fanboy.I don't know? Currently, I would expect anywhere from 6-10 non-echo newcomers.
In terms of remaining ones?
The only good fanboy, is a redeemed fanboy.Nope, in general.
I see.
I'm kinda expecting between 12, 14 and 20.
The only good fanboy, is a redeemed fanboy. That's it, mod hollered.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I'm expecting at least enough newcomers to boost the roster up to an even 70 (not counting Echo Fighters), and so far we're three newcomers away from that. After that, I'm hoping that the DLC will be enough to bring it up to 75 or higher, which it could if they decide to stick with the game for a good long while and give it continuous DLC updates.

This is not the greatest signature in the world, no... this is just a tribute.Reminder that Daisy is far and away the most well known newcomer thus far.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.More than Inkling?
I mean yeah, a mario character is easier to recognize than Splatoon
Uni catReally? But she hasn't has a major role in a Mario game since her debut...
Anyway, I'm expecting... maybe 6-8 more newcomers, counting echoes, until release.
A great Mascot Mook.So?
It's not that Daisy is some super well known character, it's that everyone else is relatively obscure by comparison.
Ridley is the main antagonist of a franchise that's been in a bit of a rut lately and Dark Samus hasn't been in a game a long while now.
King K. Rool hasn't been seen in anything in a decade.
Simon and Richter's franchise is arguably doing even worse than Metroid.
Chrom might be the one exception to that, though considering just how popular even Mario's spin offs are he might still be right.
Being in all those spin-offs consistently, especially Mario Kart, does wonders for a character. It's why Waluigi also has a huge fanbase. I'd consider Daisy a crowd-pleasing addition, if not one for the more typical Smash audience.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences. When has this mattered for anything ever?

YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.Yeah, a Mario spin-off is still a Mario game, so Daisy being popular doesn't surprise. Being more popular than Inkling? Debatable.
The only really super popular first party that isn't in that i could think of is Isabelle. She became the face of Animal Crossing more or less
Uni catI only brought up the rows of stages because it's made more than a few people miscount. There are 103 stages shown, while a few people have thought they were rows of 10 and came up with a stage total in the mid 90s.
As for whether there will be any more stages: maybe? I'm leaning towards not; it's a little weird to fixate on there being "exactly 100" taking away the Smash stages if that wasn't actually the final count. There'll be DLC stages for sure, but I think the base game will ship with 103. Maybe add one very special hidden stage, if anything.
The problem with that logic is that it means we're getting no more new franchises; outside of ROB, every franchise addition has added a stage.
Isabelle confirmed for Smash... as an Echo Fighter of Little Mac.
This is not the greatest signature in the world, no... this is just a tribute.Yeah, if we're gonna go with that we might as well give up any hope of getting any new fighters from a yet-unrepresented series... unless they aren't getting a stage for some reason, and that seems unlikely outside of special cases like ROB
(And personally, more new series is what I'd be most interested to see)

"Leftover items still have value!"It's entirely possible and actually rather likely that we won't get any more new franchises in the base game.
We've been told not to expect too many new characters. Right now we have 8, while the average number of newcomers per game is about 15. Realistically, that means we might have 5 newcomers left, being really generous, and that number could easily be filled by characters from existing franchises.
Again, this doesn't count DLC. I'm sure we'll get characters from more series as DLC rolls out, and that they'll each get home stages to go with them.
I think it's safe to assume that every old stage that wasn't seen on that stage selection screen is officially retired, and the only stages we haven't seen yet are brand new.
That's only counting franchises with playable characters right?
Because Vergeben still has his Minecraft claim that hasn't become true yet. That, and Ken becoming a Ryu echo
Uni catIt even goes beyond just new franchises because I highly doubt a Gen VII Pokemon would get in and not be accompanied by a Gen VII stage.
This song needs more love.
But it allows discussion.
