The possibility, however slight, of Goku actually getting into Smash is filling me with incandescent rage.

This was mentioned on ERA, but what do you think of using amiibos to automatically unlock characters?

Seeing as that would basically be Pay to Win, yeah, no thank you.

How would it? It's not like people will go in droves to buy amiibos for the sake of unlocking one character that shows up through normal gameplay.

Rather, it would be something neat for people who already happen to have them.

I don't see anything wrong with it.

It seems like a nice bonus if you really want to play your favorite, but they are unlockable.

I don't think anybody is really winning unless they are an avid collector and even then it's just an option.

I mean, even if it was a shortcut to unlocking, unlocking is supposed to be even easier than before. Well, apparently. "Streamlined" as it was put.

Besides, they could be used for making trophies/etc. simply easier to get. No need to make them the only option, just a option.

Yeah, as long as there are sensible ways to get the characters in-game (especially if it's via something like the Subspace Emissary), I don't see the problem.

Someone on Reddit made a mockup image of what the character select screen could look like with the full unlocked roster. It only has all the confirmed characters up to Ridley, but it looks huge.

I wonder if it will be in series order or roster addition order. Remember how messy the character select screen is when everyone's not yet unlocked?

Okay, so, there's a new leak in town, and it seems to be at least partly legit. It says there's going to be Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC and Pokemon Funko Pops, and both of those things are confirmed as of today.

According to the leaker, the following things will be announced in a thirty-minute Nintendo Direct on July 22nd:

• A new New Super Mario Bros. game called New Super Mario World, featuring Wario as a playable character.
• A Mario Maker Switch port.
• Mario Odyssey DLC featuring Isle Delfino from Mario Sunshine
• The aforementioned MK8D DLC featuring "Top Hat Cup" and "Shine Cup;" New Donk City and Waluigi Pinball tracks; Block Fort and Green Greens battle arenas; and Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, Pauline, Cappy, and Kirby as playable characters.
• An HD 3D remake of Mother 3 and an accompanying amiibo line featuring Lucas, Dusty, Kumatora, Boney, and Masked Man.
• Switch ports of Mortal Kombat X, Kingdom Hearts III, Fallout '76, Cuphead, and the Final Fantasy VII remake.
• A Zelda-themed skin pack for Minecraft on Switch.
• The infamous Star Fox Grand Prix
• A Mega Man 11 trailer featuring Proto Man, Bass, and Roll.
• A new trailer for Pokemon Let's Go!
• A new trailer for Fire Emblem: Three Houses
• A new trailer for Sonic Mania Plus featuring upcoming Metal Sonic DLC.
• A new trailer for Smash Bros. Ultimate featuring King K. Rool and Dixie Kong.

So... obviously much of that sounds completely insane, but two of those are already confirmed, so—against my better judgment—I'm holding out some hope.

All of that sounds crazy enough to turn out to be true.

Except everyone else, even in the comments there are saying it's super fake...

MK 8 DX DLC wasn't confirmed, the developers only stated they'll still update the game, but updates could just mean patches

Half of those aren't hard to believe but an HD remake of Mother 3? Way too good to b true.

& Y would they have MK X on the Switch instead the upcoming 11. That doesn't make any sense.

FFVIImake and Cuphead coming to the Switch feels like a gigantic red flag to me. Aren't those games supposed to be exclusive games for PS4 and XB1 respectively?

Yes, I know Cuphead is also on PC, but I mean in regards to just consoles here.

Honestly, anything with a Kumatora namedrop stinks of fake 4chan horseshit to me.

FF 7 was revealed at Sony's E3 a few years ago, but I don't think there's been anything directly locking it to the system...

However, even Nomura has said that they likely announced the game way too soon, so I doubt it's even in a state to be shown, much less announced for Switch at a Direct on a Sunday.

I like to think the crazy parts like FF 7 and KHIII were there to make it seem so unbelievable that when the other more sensible stuff was revealed that we'd be caught off guard.

I mean it's bullshit obviously, but Mother 3D!

And not that it'll mean anything, but this does line up with that codename leak for Smash Ultimate saying that K.Rool and Dixie would be revealed in July.

It could just be a brief teaser announcing the Switch port. Still, I've always assumed the remake would be PlayStation exclusive like the original, and I don't think they've said anything about porting it to other systems.

Also, Kirby coming to Mario Kart makes me think that Nintendo should just make that series into the racing game equivalent to Smash Bros. They already have Link, the Villagers, Isabelle, and the Inklings. Why not throw in Samus Aran, Captain Falcon, the Excitebiker, R.O.B. (who's already been in Mario Kart DS), or even Bayonetta?

Assuming this leak is true, I'm very, very, very tempted to say that Mortal Kombat X getting a Switch port is foreshadowing for a future Smash announcement...

It feels like a leak where someone got a few nuggets of truth, then decided to throw them up along with a lot of bs just to mess with people. A Direct isn't happening on Sunday.
