Well, the only Celestial we know personally is Tenshi, and she seems to welcome it as a relief from boredom.

I think "Missing Power" was one of the first Touhou I ended up listening to over and over. Now it may fit the Suika Ibuki we all know and love less than "Broken Moon," but I think it still reflects an aspect of her character, namely the less happy parts. There's pain in that music: frustration, loneliness, sorrow, all the baggage that came from leaving the oni's old life on the surface behind, all compounded by the fact that the heroines are trying to stop Suika's plans to set things "right." It's not the leitmotif of an outright villain, but the theme of someone who feels forced to oppose you.

Morrigan/WAVE, of course, did a nice orchestral/choral/strings take on it, while the Sail to the Isle mix is a great and faithful cover. Tainokobone's mix is short but sweet and very Japanese, packaged here with one by SOUND HOLIC that is also pretty solid. Metal fans may enjoy Godspeed's "Rage", which pretty accurately sums up the vibe you get from listening to it. I recently discovered a remix from the Twilight Album that I think is pretty nifty - the part in the middle stands out from other mixes.

"Broken Moon" is happy Suika, something you can easily imagine accompanying shots of her swaggering down a street, huge grin on her face, more boozed-up than Oktoberfest. It's the theme of someone with a force of personality several times her (default) body size, cheerful, confident and bold. Kitsune Workshop did an excellent remix.

Also, Broken Moon (SWR Mix).

Best thing ever and I will gladly listen to it for hours on end.

Hey, remember me? I posted once for Reisen/Tewi and never came back. But you're on Suika now, and I feel obligated to as she's my favorite character.

I'm not entirely sure why, but it definitely has something to do with her songs which were talked about before. I 100% agree with the person that said Missing Power is the best song ZUN's ever made. It just has so many different parts, but they seem to flow into each other perfectly. I personally like Broken Moon a lot, but I would have preferred some kind of Ondo or party-ish version of Missing Power instead. (If anyone has a remix like this, please share) Partially because Broken Moon isn't a ZUN song, and was made by U2. It fits Suika better, but it's just kind of weird to me. Her being really fun to play as probably has something to do with it, too.

I prefer it when Suika is the "insightful cynic" mentioned in the quick write-up. The oddness inherent in the little girl acting like that makes her seem more, I guess detailed would be a good word. Plus, she's friends with Yukari. She has to be pretty awesome to tolerate her as long as she has.

I'm kind of upset I missed the Yuugi discussion, but I can probably think of something to say while we're still on Suika.

Oh my, I didn't know Tasogare had high-profile artists like that working for them!

I think "Missing Power" was one of the first Touhou I ended up listening to over and over. Now it may fit the Suika Ibuki we all know and love less than "Broken Moon, " but I think it still reflects an aspect of her character, namely the less happy parts.
I actually used to be completely uninterested in it, but now I like to listen to it a lot, too. It's actually really weird, apparently ZUN himself thinks that the song sounds... happy? Personally, I like it because it seems very fitting for an oni in a kabuki theater kind of way. It just sounds literally epic in a sense that is hard for me to describe.

"A'right a'right. Not much to tell though. Ya live long enough and you're bound to meed the gap hag. I know her, that ghost princess knows her, that stuck-up judge knows her, Yukka knows her-"

"Yuuka."

"Her too."

Made me chuckle!

Thus, she has a first-hand knowledge on all of Gensokyo's inhabitants, but she seems more interested in a select bunch.
You know, this is actually an interesting point. Suika does seem to be defined by being pretty introverted by oni standards. She still likes to party, but it seems like she's highly critical of people and only wants to spend time with a select few whom she wants to get to know more closely, rather than being buddies with everyone.

I guess her free-spiritedness and defiance of the tengu in spite of not caring about their settling on the mountain does make sense with that in mind...

In spite of that, though...

While I can't really think of anything to say about Suika either, I'm not sure how Yuugi is any better in this regard. Seems to me that Yuugi is just like Suika but with less characterization. The same but less. Although I suppose that may be exactly why certain people like to talk about underused characters *coughkisumecough*.
I think a big part of it is that Yuugi might seem more connected to more other people, which makes it easier to bounce her off of others and define her personal history in relation to those people's. I guess that might be ironic given that Suika has a lot more officially known friends than Yuugi, but the Underground seems tighter than the surface world, and Suika is, as you said, a lone agent...

So, here's something I haven't done in a while. Random doujins that feature the character in question.

Colorful Cube's Ogre and the Ice Fairy. It was printed in Bohemian Archive so it has a delightful state of dubious semi-canonocity.
Golden Pe Done's Crazy Furious God. Suika nips back to the underground to get her gourd. Yuugi isn't entirely enthused. Marisa and Alice plot shoehorned in for some reason.
Fusuma Teahouse's Flower-viewing Sake in a Dream's Interval. Suika meets Youki before IAMP.
Haniwa's Store Miko Miko Suika series. Because Suika looks nice in a Hakurei miko uniform.
Maruchira's Why did she leave the miniature garden? Onis out! A story of Yukari and Suika's friendship and of the oni leaving Gensokyo.
Sayakata Tea Mansion's Yuyuko. Obviously, its a Yuyuko story but it guest stars Suika and Yuugi as her guides for a gourmet's tour of the underground. Also, I think its parodying something.
Sayakata Tea Mansion's Suika in Yakumo Family. Yukari decides she wants Suika to be her shikigami. I'm sure there are multiple things wrong with that.
Sayakata Tea Mansion's Eastern News Kingdom. Its a Akyuu and Aya doujin but one of the news stories focuses on Suika. I'm okay with grasping for straws.
Icy Rain's The Night the Beast Cries. Keine and Suika fight in a battle of the two horns. Also, there's an actual reason.
Suika slapping Aya. There's absolutely no reason to link this.

Please to enjoy.

You know! That was actually really, really nice. In fact, the second paragraph was so nice it made me stop to smile and think about how that's a really nice paragraph.

There's some things I could criticize, like the fact that you used a wiki word, and that there were a couple typos... and I don't think you explained how Kisumi got healed? Though I guess that's implied in the alliance between the two peoples... I can also see why you turned off her accent for that one line, but I really would've liked it if she'd kept that! It would've been very charming. Don't be afraid of ugliness!

But yeah, the fact that I'm throwing criticism your way should really serve as more of a compliment than anything. That was already pretty much a small piece of fanfiction, so here be my literary criticism.

It's always nice to hear from you, Faw.smile As for that issue with Kisumi; She didn't ever get better. When she and Yamami lead the rest down to the Underground, she was still in the earlier stages of her disease, around that of a light cold. As for her accent-drop: It was more about clarity out-of-universe, though I rationalized it in-verse as her speaking slowly and precisely.

Oh, hi ever'body! So, we're talkin' drunkards now? I'll get back t'ya ina bit!

But Nazrin shoots gold, you know why. Now then:

Scarlet Weather Rhapsody

"Hey there "neighbor", I don't see you around often. Which is kind of rude, since I went through so much to let you live here."

"Ugh! Hi, you can have your land back if you want it. I was wrong, it's boooooring up here."

"How so?"

"You guys never do anything, I though celestials were supposed to be carefree people, but you just stand around and fish"

"Well, we are mostly hermits, they don't do much."

"And every time I throw a party, hardly anyone gathers."

"Not many humans know how to get to Heaven."

"I don't see how you live up here!"

"Well, I suppose I have you to thank for that. Every time you throw a party a bunch of really strong individuals gather, and I get to beat them up. Plus, the neighbors get annoyed, so that's always a plus."

"You know, I threw those parties to annoy you."

"Yeah, the shrine maiden sold you out. After I defeated her, of course. She wasn't nearly as strong as you made her out to be. I thought you said she was almost as good as you."

"What are you implying?"

"I'm just saying, that if she's almost as good as you, and she was only half my power, then by that logic you must only be three fourths of mine."

"Is that a challenge? You should know by now that even an ascended human can't rival the forgathering of oni!"

"Hmph! Oni have double the weaknesses of humans, so the Sword of Hisou shall make two times quicker work of you than that shrine maiden!"

"Is that so~?"

"That is so!"

Just a little dialogue between Suika and her neighbor. Since I sort of did my didactic write-up on Suika twice already in my Yuugi write-up and in my Suika overview. I felt no shame in doing another one of these. I think I'm getting good at them any way.

I put a lot more work into this one compared to my Kisume write-up. I actually did (pause for dramatic effect) research! The general idea behind it is that Tenshi caused her incident out of boredom, and it's impossible to be bored around someone like Suika, now isn't it? Using the information in Tenshi scenario in SWR I determined how a conversation between them after the events in that game might sound. Of course, it was just build up to some cheesy pre-fight banter. This is Touhou, we do that here.

No wonder Hell has budget problems. According to PMISS, one of Hell's main sources of revenue is the fee that the ferry(wo)men charge. Every time Komachi or any other shinigami get into a fight, they're literally throwing money away. And then remember that there's shinigami with the express job description of going out to fight celestials. Hell needs some accountants and a slap of common sense, stat. *
