Also both Sicily and Magna Graecia being formables? So doing a Syracuse run first.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.I have a soft spot for Persia, so I think I'm going to go for that second. First play as the (probably OP) Rome to learn the ropes, though.
For my first playthrough, I'm going to do a Macedon run, we shall surpass Alexander!
(Admittedly that doesn't say much, "have one's empire last after one's death" is not a high bar to pass )

"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnNo one going for Egypt? Fend off Alexander and the Romans, and establish a new golden age?
Optimism is a duty. How are you gonna fend off Alexander when Egypt is already ruled by one of his generals?
If you start as "Egypt", sure, but you could start as any of the other Egyptian-cultured countries, and form the "real" Egypt. Though the opportunity for beating Alexander is past, beating up his successors is still in the cards.

I wonder if Kush can form a non-Macedonian Egypt.
Still, Syracuse will be fun, especially if I can get some other players on board for a Hellenic city-state coop campaign. Let's band together against whoever tries to take our shit.

Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.Gonna take a Persian minor and and create the First Persian Republic
They should, the Kush were converted to Egyptian culture centuries before Alexander (hence why they once conquered Egypt to restore proper Egyptian culture. History is so strange sometimes...)
Optimism is a duty.I think the only culturally and religiously "Egyptian" country at the start is a minor theocracy that is a vassal to Egypt proper.
At least we're getting a BOI-related achievement as well.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.I'll probably do Damnonia first to get a handle on playing the game. Unite the clans, you pathetic worm.
That sounds like a challenge
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnI wonder if it’s possible to form a united Greece under the banner of one of the city-states. The rise of a Spartan Empire for instance.
Well, the Pan-Hellenic League is a formable tag.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen. That theocracy should be either the Kush or the Nubians to the south, I think. What is the starting date again?
Optimism is a duty.304. And no, it's Dodekaschoinos, on the Kushan border.

I would like to see if I can unite the Iberian tribes and fend off Carthage and Rome’s attempts of conquering the peninsula.
This makes me think, will there be an option for barbaric states to become civilized under a guiding pattern? Like the Gauls of southern France could become semi-Greek through extended contact with Massalia, or if Rome has a positive relationship with you, you can choose to give priority to Latin culture and adopt some elements of it to your own.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.That would be Lower Nubia, so that matches up.
Optimism is a duty. Are the Massagetae featured? Does the game map reach Aral sea?
Spiral out, keep going. The map reaches the Aral Sea but I can't find a Massagetae tag anywhere. It's possible that they're a culture without any indpeendent nation or that their country goes under a different name.
If they're under a different name, then it's probably Scythia(ns) or Saka. The former is more likely.

Ottomans, if you want to simply cruise-control yourself towards world-conquest. Otherwise, just pick any of the larger European powers. France or England is a pretty good bet. Castille's pretty fun too, since they got that fancy new objective tree, giving them a huge edge on the colonisation game.
