Heh, I figured when I clicked to the next page that's what it would be.

But yeah, wish I could do an MP Stellaris game. Maybe with a whole bunch of different ship mods too.

I tried doing an Asturias game last night myself, but got bored with it. I think I'll try another pagan game tonight.

Also what all happens when you declare a war of reconquest? Is it like a Viking prepared invasion where you steadily build up forces, or do you just get one group and that's it?

Quick look at the map:

Latgale looks like the most promising lettigallian realm at Charly start. Individual counties are empty pig farms, but that's Latgale so nothing else is expected.

NOOOOOOOO, they cut apart Nikaea. Beautiful seat of basileus is ruined. I could take Adriwhateverpolis to the West as my secondary dutchy, but it is decidedly meh. Or I could take Optimatoi and Abydos and just destroy one title to avoid penalty, but... it wouldn't look good. And if I'm not playing for looks, what's the point?

Also... oh no, we have white people in Africa. Paradox, I'll miss you.

I'm of course talking about Sub-sahara. People without african portrait packs were left with arabian portraits and now, that Holy Fury reworked those portraits with lighter complexation, they have almost white Sub-sahara.

And there are bugs, naturally. For example I have african portraits and still get two mighty whities in Hausaland and something-something to the right. At least in Charly start.

Huh, apparently you can't get Imperial Administration if you reformed your pagan religion to be cosmopolitan. To get Imperial you have to have the law that gives you the ability to revoke infidel holdings with no penalty, but if you have cosmopolitan you can't swap to it.

Spent a while considering if it was a feature rather than an oversight, but seeing as most great empires have been rather cosmopolitan religion wise, I can't see any historical reason for it to be intentional. Thus filing it down as a bug.note

Well fuck. This time on a Wendish run I got to the point of being the King of Poland, but after taking a hit to the head in battle I was drowned in the bath by my caretakers.

[up][up]They already have it reported :)

So, after a false start, my second game is going well. I started as Teuderic, Count of Ravenna, and had been merrily uniting things in Italy when Romagna got ripped away from the Kingdom by a Norse invader, driving Hilderic Teudericingi the Lionheart back to holdings in Tuscany. Hilderic built strength, tyrannized like no one before seen, and then unleashed the fury of Christ, and in no time flat he had taken over the Kingdom of Romagna. Now under his granddaughter Lavinia, Romagna controls the south and center of the boot, centered in Rome and ruled by a largely Italian nobility (while the actual Kingdom of Italy is mostly Lombard with currently German leadership, and is also mostly collapsed). I'm not going to Hellenize just yet; right now I'm focusing on getting Italia together.

Now, the Pope is bitchy about the whole taking Rome and Free Investiture thing, and has me excommunicated - but despite this, Lavinia has earned the nickname "the Confessor" for her great piety (...despite being a cynical Hermetic). Must be that whole "defender of Christendom" thing - Romagna has been fighting Muslims, Germanic invaders and Cathar rebels since Hilderic's day.

I think if I get the chance, though, I'm goin' Cathar while I wait to Hellenize.

EDIT: That didn't go as planned. Lavinia's as cynical as ever, but the papacy went to her apprentice and Court Chaplain, and soon after, she and the new Pope fell in love and a random mission to Verona succeeded, getting her excommunication lifted.

Given that she is now quite literally in bed with the Catholic Church, I don't see her going Cathar any time soon.

There's some Stellaris news, a Megacorp related announcement is happening Tuesday.

I feel fairly comfortable in assuming that it's probably a release date.

Tuffy's posts are honestly making me wanna start a fresh new game of Stellaris but I've got a weird thing about not wanting to play a game before a major update and the wait for the population stuff is killing me

Oh really when?

As I understand it that's a rather common problem for Paradox games, Stellaris especially.

Personally, I normally don't have much problem playing before an update drops but in this case (like 2.0) it just makes the existing system look so inadequate that I have a very difficult time playing.

Yay for adding a Weyland-Yutani template, now the only thing left is to add an specific mission to obtain a vital organic sample for the profit of the company. Crew Expendable.

Looks like I might have to restart my Provence->Burgundy playthrough again - not only did my moronic heir manage to get himself matri-married, the HRE just elected me as emperor.

And I don't want to be emperor. Why is there still no option to just say no to being elected.

Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.

I turned off auto-update for my Stellaris until I am done with my current run. I am stoked though for the fixes to planet management. Especially given my ever-growing list of worlds I am adding to my empire.

I am pushing for the ability to build space Habs partly because I think they are kinda cool and I had the fortune to find an abandoned one my Robits could take over.

Oh man, the Kazakh Empire was so close...

So, I was minding my business, expanding the demesne of my one-eyed, fat, heavy-drinking, manwhoring Queen at the expense of the rest of Central Asia. The desired demesne size of 180 was very close (I got 157), but being located in the center of Central Asia has the huge disadvantage of being in the way of practically every Turkic conqueror who wants to expand his backyard.

So, first Seljuk appears South of my domain, and, immediately after him, a certain Temujin of the Borjigins and his merry men spawn at the easternmost border of the map. Figuring that the Seljuks are a more imminent threat, I wait until their conquests move their border closer to mine and swear fealty to the Seljuk Khaganate. Better the devil you know, right, eh?

WRONG.

Genghis Khan has as many as four times the size of Seljukids' army, and he absolutely steamrolls the fledgling empire. The recent revolt breaking the Seljukid empire in two didn't help them either. The only thing I could do is to take a bucket of popcorn and watch as my demesne that turned into the main theater of the Mongol (or whatever they are called in this randomized map of mine) conquest is getting torn apart.

Results:

  • I've switched suzerains. All hail Great Khan!
  • I'm left with a single county and a duke for a vassal.
  • I retain the Kingdom of Kazakh title, and all the possible de jure claims that come with it (not as many as it was when my demesne was intact).
  • The Queen abandons her drinking habits, and dies shortly.
I've managed to claw back one county from a new clan that was created by the Khagan, but that's about it. Temujin dies, his heir Jochi got hit in the head, with his regent continuing the conquests and now I'm conspired with Tolui to put the Khagan out of his misery, since Tolui is the heir.

And I have no idea what to do next. I don't have even close enough power to overthrow Jochi, since he is still 75K strong (and he holds most of my former lands). If, after he dies, the Mongol empire will get fragmented, or his heir will be forced to create new clans in close vicinity, or they'll lose their merry men, I probably got the change to restore my kingdom.

Do Mongols ever settle down? What other options do I have?

Spiral out, keep going.

I really hope the module system Paradox is introducing for ships in Man the Guns makes its way to other parts of the game.

The fact that, as of writing, until you pump experience into them, a Sherman and a Panzer IV have the same stats is kind of silly. Sure they fulfilled the same role, but one was infinitely better than the other, and it sure as heck isn't the Panzer tongue

The Mongols require a waiting game. I've submitted to them before (defeating them required the Empire of Tibet to white peace their initial invasion, destroying them utterly) - they come in with a giant flood of hax event troops, but then they spend those in wars and end up breaking up and fighting each other, and suddenly they're not so dangerous anymore and you can rise up. In the meantime, take whatever you can from your fellow vassals, consolidate power and get ready to seize the time.

Just in my current game, I've clawed my way back from being knocked down to a single demesne county in a Norse prepared invasion. Your situation is that on crack, but figure out how to claw yourself back. Jews, extortion, murder, seizure of any county next door that's too weak to resist.

I despise hypocrisy, unless of course it is my own.
