No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

I think I remember reading that the Horus Heresy vehicles have been banned from official GW events because the shear amount of powerful stuff they could take would give the Chaos and regular marines an unfair advantage over the other factions, so that is probably unlikely.
30k Imperium stuff being op compared to everything else at least makes narrative sense. All that stuff comes from around the time when the Imperium was at its peak. It was the closest they ever were to conquering the galaxy outright. The Heresy was the beginning of the end for the Imperium, being the moment they went from rising to falling.

Disgusted, but not surprisedYeah, it probably is unlikely. I just had some hope since everything was getting new datasheets anyway, so they didn't have to stay totally overpowered.
Today on the community they have a closer look at the Solar Auxilia kit. I particularly like the command squad. These could be kitbashed with the IG to create a cool fighting force, while the archaic elements also make them suitable to customize high-level officers and noblemen.
I like that they mention including enough parts that you can build the included character and still have enough models to do the actual thing, at least as long as you have a spare base.
This time on the Heresy Thursday we get to see Captain Tybalt Marr, who is out hunting members of the Shattered Legions. The Aquila with an eye in the middle is very cool and I like his pose. He looks determined and tough, almost as if on a noble quest. This model could easily be used for a heroic character.

Yeah, he's another cool HH miniature. I really like his sword.
I find it really funny how all the evil looking eyes all over the armour was just a normal HH era fashion unrelated to Chaos.
Secret SignatureThe evil looking eye is Horus' personal symbol, so I wouldn't call it totally unrelated to Chaos
Warhammer World anniversary today so we get some reveals:
- Adeptus Custodes Shield-Captain◊. Love the stance and the shield.
- Ork Big Mek◊ with a variety of weapons◊. Love the scars and Ork gubbinz always looks good.
The calmer head on the Big Mek looks a bit like he could be one of the Kruleboyz. I've wondered if they could ever make a transition to 40K? Perhaps as an isolated breed of Ork, who has been mutated by influence from the Dark Eldar, to make them more inclined to sneakiness and torture?
I like the exaggerated Hoplite-look that the Shield-Captain is rocking.
Emperor, for how many centuries that custodian hasn't had a nap?
I love the calm head on the Mek, mainly for the bolts running along his jaw. It's like Orky body piercing.
We have logged in and it is now that we perform our charge. In the fealty of the God-Emperor and by the grace of the Golden Throne, I hereby declare your mother voluptuous and your father of darken complection. May the Imperial justice account in all balance. The Emperor reks.
So, according to White Dwarf, Captain Titus is now Canon. It's cheeky how they explained away how he was AWOL and why we've had Sicarius throughout "modern" 40k as the 2nd Company Captain too:
- Titus was experimented on by the Inquisition, and was kept in stasis in between "sessions".
- Titus is erased from "official" records by Inquisition, but Calgar tries his hardest to get him back. Sicarius takes over for Titus in the interim.
- Inquisitor Thrax gets killed somewhere in between, after he gets possessed by a daemon, and the Grey Knights strikeforce that was with him takes him down.
- Another inquisitor ransacks Thrax's holdings, finds his Astartes test subjects, and gives them to the Death Watch.
- Titus, not sure how many years has passed and thinks he shamed the Ultramarines somehow, renames himself Nullus, becomes a Black Shield.
- His Deathwatch strike team gets deployed against the Tyranids in the 4th Tyranid war.
- The Deathwatch corvus blackstart Nullus is in gets shot down, Nullus gets gravely wounded by a Carnifex.
- COINCIDENTALLY an Ultramarines strike force is ON THE SAME PLANET (thanks to Tigurius predicting that Titus might be there) recover him.
- Nullus-Titus is carried away to be saved, had to become a Primaris to survive.
- Now returned to 2nd Company as a Lieutenant under Captain Acheron.

This time on Heresy Thursday we get to see Tybalt Marr's nemesis, Shadrak Meduson. He looks a bit like a young Harrison Ford, if Star Wars was much grungier.
Cool model, although I can't help but wonder if he's got squadmates named Meshach and Abednego.

Nice. I like the folded up servo-arm on his power pack.
Double post for today's Warhammer Community reveal: Necromunda Beastmaster & giant rat◊ and some slightly smaller rats◊. The rats are cool but I do like the Beastmaster's rat skull helmet and sawn-off shotgun.
Ooh, for a brief moment I thought we were getting official space-Skaven. That two-headed one looks like it is on the verge of becoming a 40K-equivalent of a Plague Monk. That one and the slightly smaller rats would be a perfect addition for fantasy-Skaven, along with those Cawdor bomb-rats.
Double-post: The design team are interviewed about how the Kroot range was updated. I really like most of these new models, especially the potential for converting them. The Kroots' avian nature looks vaguely reptilian, so the Carnivores could be kitbashed with Lizardmen, while the Krootox and Kalamandra could also be used for fantasy.
God, "horrible mutant rats lurking in underhives and space hulks" would be such a good angle for 40k Skaven. I know that GW wants to keep their settings separate, but the rats would be such a good fit.
Still, here's some fun fanart to that effect.
(My favorite thing about the Skaven conceptually is that they're Chaos creatures that are not actually aligned with Chaos as a faction but have their own goals, culture, and ambitions, which would be a good addition to 40k's dynamics also.)
Anyway. I love the new Kroot models. The Kroot are one of my favorite 40k species, so I'm always happy to see them get new toys and lore.
Yeah, it would make so much sense as a concept. Among non-human mammals originating on Earth, rats are among the ones most likely to thrive in the larger universe. There are lots of hobbyists converting their own space-Skaven, usually making them functionally either Orks or Mechanicus, though I'd use the Genestealer Cults as a template. There are also other manufacturers that are making similar ratmen for sci-fi, like Mantic's Veer-myn. I've used those along with the Ratkin for KOW to get Skaven-expies for cheaper, though I'm so far only using them for WHFB. I could convert them for 40K and kitbash with Imperial Guardsmen, to showcase them as scavengers.
Though tbh, "lurking threat hidden in plain sight in humanity's cities" is a niche already filled by Genestealers.
Disgusted, but not surprised
It could also depend on if the Dark Mechanicum becomes its own army, and how free Vashtorr is with his creations.
I could see some of the 30K designs becoming traitor units alongside new demonic horrormachines. It would open up a greater variety of aesthetics. Some legions might be less keen to deal with him.
