32_Footsteps: I really cannot argue with that last panel's logic.

Nor can I. Even though I don't wear women's clothes , I am aware that most of them have pockets only deep enough for a credit card or sales receipt, and just one or the other of those. tongue

[up]Which is why I recommend to slim-built women of my acquaintance that if they actually want practical pockets in their jeans and so on, they should hit the nearest male youth shop and go nuts.

Meanwhile, someone's learning, and someone's happy about that:

Hmm... that sounds like they're going to hire some Forbott'r to build this, since that clan sounds like one of their clan names, but that could just be coincidence.

Previous strip mentioned that this station is in Gripp which is fobottr core system. So yes they are.

Pictures without captions. Wait a second... are all of those spheres world-ships?

Adannor Since: May, 2010

No way. Even if a ton of civilization did the same, they would be spread over an immense volume of space. The only way to get more than one worldship in a picture is if they are from the same galactic civilization and purposefully chose to fly in an extremely tight formation.

[up]Hobbes has something to say about that, or is it Watterson?

That's weird as hell. Because still, any picture that would have them visible at all would be covering only an immensely tiny portion of space.

So I am sticking to the guess that all these ships are related to each other.

[up][up][up] I love these Future Imperfect quotes because it's just so plausible, given how often we have people citing a character quote as the author, or for that matter a reviewer's comment eventually getting assigned to the person whose work is being reviewed.

To be fair, Watterson has said some fairly insightful things himself through the mouths of his characters, so quoting him isn't all bad.

Nothing scarier than an officer allowed to spend money. Apart from one that's got a map, I suppose...

Enlightened despot.

On the one hand, I'd like more detail on how Petey's not-quite utopia works. On the other hand, I understand why Taylor doesn't want to give too much detail, because it would be easy for people to start picking it apart.

Well, it has been posited by some philosopher or other that an immortal enlightened despot is the best way to go for government, but since we don't have that, we make do. Also, not sure if Petey would qualify as that.

If anybody can beat entropy, it's the god-AI with the giant zero-point energy generator.

There were a few lines from some of the other super-civs that beating energy is something they're working on, and even if they haven't succeeded yet they've gotten close for it to be an actual possibility.

Maybe entropy is the vague threat that the Oafans expect the Toughs to save the galaxy from.

I'm pretty certain that annie plants at their base level are antientropic. It's always a question of whether they manage to avoid using all that power to explode themselves.

The ganni also have smaller, star sized singularities inside their dysons. They even create matter out of them. Those could exist in perpetuity, given nobody breaks them.

Hm and actually... the core generator IS the ultimate middle finger to entropy. If nothing else works and the universe reaches heat death, just spinning on of those up and making it go BANG would ensure that nonzero energy levels will continue to exist. Even if the people making it won't get to enjoy them.

Oh right, he mentioned something earlier about trying to teraport just minds. Still not sure exactly what that means.

It's part of them trying to contact that distant civilization by only teraporting the encoded personalities/minds of the diplomats.

I suspect that part of the catch is the leakage of teraporting, as noted from the start. Not so much of a problem when you're losing a minor percentage of matter that's converted to energy, but more so when you're talking about what's probably a highly compressed but still very image of a human soul, compounded by the vast distances probably requiring even more energy being bled off from the transported mass. Compare how C Ds can play perfectly fine with a huge gash, while DV Ds sometimes fail entirely with just slight scratching. Damaging the compressed data has compounded effects.
