I wouldn't completely disagree, but you're really selling Madara short here. By his era's standards we know of only two people who were capable of matching him - Hashirama and Tobirama.

Just as controlling Kurama isn't that special of a feat when a teenager with a Sharingan can do it, Hashirama is literally the only person in the series known to have specific powers for controlling Tailed Beasts. His Wood Style is powerful enough that it's able to temporarily subdue the strongest creature in the verse. It's like Tailed Beast kryptonite.

x2 Nah he made it clear at the end Potato Chips (Chocho) aren't for him even if they taste good. Which is a nice way to end it while showing how far the two developed that miniarc.

Nice healthy friendship between a boy and girl that's shown and isn't toxic because the woman is a violent murderer in the making.

Madara is absolutely my favorite part of this franchise. His excitement at getting to fight people like Hashirama and Guy is great. I wish they'd made that his character, like, he hijacks the plan from Obito, steals these awesome god powers to fight with, and to hell with the evil tree. That would have been funny AF.

While that part of Madara I find appealing, the rest of him falls short for me.

I don't want to just throw Villain Sue around, but when you're fighting the top five people of the current age similtaneously without even having to exert yourself, and then several abilities work completely differently for you (mastering Sage Mode instantly, for example, is cool, impressive, and builds threat because it's insanely hard but also technically physically possible. Summoning a Susano'o with no eyes? Using Kakashi's Kamui on yourself?) then it starts to become an accusation with some legs.

Him being so strong doesn't help because it basically repeatedly confirms what he's saying as right - he says that the five Kage, especially Tsunade, are unworthy heirs to the legacy of their forebears; and he's right, at least by the standards of power. To add insult to injury the one usually considered the least weak is Onoki, the oldest one. Naruto and Sasuke's fight with him being replaced with a fight with Kaguya isn't so much as cheating Madara of a solid fight as it is cheating the new generation of the opportunity to stick it to the old generation.

I like Naruto but as a series it suffers from the dreaded middle era sag - that is to say, the serious powers are either in the actual protagonist's generation or in the super-old founding generation, not in the Jirayas and Tsunades.

To put it more simply, the much debated Hokage list (list of Hokage from strongest to weakest) will actually have the two top spots largely undebated - Naruto and Hashirama.

Yeah for all the talk of passing it on to the new generation its the old generations that are clearly superior with the only ones who can match them are our two leads who derive power partly from the old generation.

I mean seriously Madara & Hashirama are just way too fucking ridiculously OP.

As said Madara single-handily beat the 5 Kage all at once without breaking a sweat & I'm pretty sure genuinely broke canon by using a Sharingan technique without having the actual eyes needed to use the damn techniques.

He is without a doubt a Villain Sue.

Naruto series is all about the legacy of the past and how it shapes the present. So obviously the things close to the foundation are the best. Don't let Kakashi's spiel fool you - the older generations were just better. Nardo and Sauce are the only exceptions, and they were the reincarnations of Asura and Indra so they had a direct link to the deep past.

Madara stomping the kages was one of my favorite parts of the series - it really sold his danger level and made it clear that there are no safety nets for Naruto to fall on if he fails to stop him. As much as a lot of War Arc was badly written, this part was very effective.

I am of the opinion - along with basically every other Naruto fan I've ever talked to - that the Indra and Ashera stuff was a dreadful, dreadful idea. Naruto has also held the theme as a series pretty consistently that the will of the previous generation is carried on by the future ones (it's the closest thing to a proper religion that we get a good look at). The Pain arc actually reinforces this particularly with Naruto shown in front of visions of both Jiraya and Minato, surpassing them. But the War arc just craps on this idea from start to finish, to the point that they literally have to bring the first generation back from the dead to finish the fight because their descendants are so pathetic, and then have the *original* generation reincarnate because even that isn't enough.

You can have Madara beat the Kage, actually, if it's actually necessary for building that threat (as opposed to, say, the hundreds of chapters of buildup that he had gotten plus him destroying an entire regiment with little difficult). My problem isn't that he defeats them, it's that they never make him break a sweat. He doesn't beat them with his decades of battle experience, or ingenuity. He beats them because he's just somehow faster and stronger than all of them and has some techniques that absolutely crap on their entire arsenal.

But then, I didn't feel that it was necessary to have all five of the Kage on one side at all (a situation that necessitated, among other things, Kabuto coming back suddenly with loads of new tricks so he could give Obito an army).

eh, Kabuto's tricks were pretty well established.

They actually had the current Kages improve enough to fight base form Okutsuki Clan (Not Ninjalands branch started by Kaguyas sons) by the time of Bolt.

Momoshiki needed a powerup for his even better than the movie anime fight to kick their collective ass and only Urashiki was intentionallyholding back the Rinnegan in his fight. Preferring subterfuge and pragmatism than just flaunting brute force like the other two. Course he's apparently part of the Recon part of the Clan. And now he plans on doing things to Bolt.

Urashiki also has Snake Sage Mode now too which he immediately understood upon seeing Mitsuki trying to use it and stored it away in his gourd for himself to use later.

The Mizukage & Tsuchikage are total losers though.

Yet they are the two who had Kinshiki dead to rights until he got eaten by Momoshiki.

Plus Gaara and Choujuro had that pretty good double team on Urashiki.

Urashiki was also holding back his full powrr and decides to ditch the fight than fight a prolong battle against foes he underestimated.

Smarter than his senpai Momoshiki whose arrogance was his downfall.

Their powers also aren't as cool.

A had his lighting armor which basically turned him into a ninja wrestler, his successor just has black lighting (which is pretty decent though) & a short sword.

Mei had multiple blood-line techniques which included lava manipulation, her successor even back then was always pretty unimpressive in comparison to Zabuza & Kisame especially his sword which lacks the awesome brutality of the butcher blade & the shark-skin.

Onoki had his dust release & I'm not sure his granddaughter has it. Plus while I don't really like him that much he at least had the relatively distinct archetype of being the old guy of the group. Now that archetype is lost & all his successor brings is..... the chick I guess.

About madara using kakashi eye on himself well he just did what kakashi himself used the eye for. Like kakashi straight up uses the eye to leave the Kami dimension on his own after obito(at least after obito went ten tails and stopped using his eye and he might of done it once before)

I started watching Boruto again. Wave arc was good.

Currently at the episode 34 where Boruto worries about everyone going their separate ways after graduation. I can't help but laugh, because that's not how it works at all. He'll be hanging out with the same people for the rest of his life. He should just ask his parents.
