• Tear Jerker: Oh man, where do we begin?
  • In Mary, Bloody Mary, Mary and her mother Catherine are forbidden to meet or even write to one another, as Henry does not want to risk the chance of a rebellion being raised to restore them to their former titles. When Catherine dies, Mary is not even allowed to attend the funeral. Chapuys, the ambassador from Catherine's home country of Spain, manages to smuggle a letter of farewell from the mother to the daughter. Not only is the letter itself a massive Tear Jerker, but Mary can't even keep it - she has to burn it rather than risk it being stolen by one of Queen Anne's spies.
  • In Beware Princess Elizabeth, Elizabeth and her little brother, Edward, start off having a good relationship with Edward calling his older half-sister "Sweet Sister Temperance". Edward eventually confides in Elizabeth when they have a moment alone that he's constantly being berated by first his maternal uncles Edward and Thomas Seymour and then the Duke of Northumberland (father of Elizabeth's childhood friend and eventual favorite, Robin Dudley) as they fight for control of the young king. Edward is even forced to sign the death warrants of both of his uncles. The poor boy is reduced to tears and all Elizabeth can do is hold him while they wait for someone to find them.
  • Patience Princess Catherine begins with a prologue of Charles Brandon (Henry's childhood friend) making demands of Catherine (who has been banished from court) so we know that this is not going to have a happy ending even when Catherine and Henry end up getting married and swear their love to each other.
