YMMV / The Waste Land

Go To

  • Applicability: Eliot refrained from giving his own explanation of The Waste Land, saying that a poem's meaning is that which it has for the reader and not the author, and the author is merely one interpreter among many.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Rats crawling on the corpses of the Fisher King's relatives.
  • Wangst: As the page summary states, "It is mainly about how the world is hopelessly lost and how life cannot be regenerated." That set the tone for pretty much the entire Modernist movement.
